I'm sorry but I disagree. All muscle groups work to some extent. Whether you initiate with the calf or the shin to get to ankle motion makes no difference. And in one way it could be working against someone with a mind body connection
Super helpful
Can confirm, I just naturally played heel down, I was self-taught more or less for a long time before I wanted to refine my playing. I'm still working on getting the feel for the heel up, but I know I'll get there with enough effort, but it would've been easier had I known this technique to begin with.
Same bro
Lol. Thank you for pointing this out . I also have experience stiffing in my left shin area as well. God bless . I know now I can work through The Encyclopedia of Double Bass with the right technique.
Thank you sir for clarifying these simple, fundamental facts. 😃🤨👍
That is so true because like Dave Weckl said "Whatever goes with your right foot, goes with your left foot" I'm not really a double bass drummer but I had so been behind the double bass drum kit I used to own double pedals. Idk when I'm gunna get one because they're expensive. I'm thinking about building a electric double bass drums on my Yamaha DD-75 if I just get another Yamaha KP-65 Kick Pad and a splitter for it
Trying to learn this technique now definitely way different and a good challenge
This is true. Luckily I know it in my heart when it comes to practicing the ankle motion. No heel down. Heel down will not work on the ankle. It works on the shin muscle like Marthyn said.
That was my exact comment to another drummer that said he couldn't go beyond 180 bpm's and was only practicing heel down without taking advantage of the ankle technique using other muscle groups ☹️
Youre always on point! 🤘🏼🔥
Great explanation
Thank you so much 🤟🤟:)
This is true! You play from the back of your foot!!
Thankyou sir
What's better for single bass drumming?
Idk if this was about my post on metal drummers page but someone wrote me a ridiculously long postal why you need to work your shin muscle and why you should do it with ankle down and it doesn’t make any sense just watching your RUclips videos I went from maxing out like 130 beats for minute to about 170 and they are getting tighter and cleaner every day
Universal support 💪🏼🫂
ooohhh......
Ankle technique or heel toe (double stroke) as I saw a video where a guy was proficient with very fast heal toe to make doubling the speed and faster very clean. Heel heel, toe toe, etc. thoughts?
Wanja?
I wouldn’t solely rely on heel toe just not consistent strokes
