That backspace sounds amazing! I'm getting this keyboard next week and I wanted to see someone modify it. I'll be following all the steps you took because I love the sound of this keyboard!!!!
This was done after the foam right? Do you think it’s a combination of the lube, film, and foam? Or do you think I can get away with not foaming and still yield the same result?
Yeah this was done after adding the foam. I don’t really think the foam did that much imo. I would say to get the results that I have, lubing/filming your switches will get you 80% there and the foam would only be about 20%. If possible, I’d recommend getting some precut foam. That will save a ton of time and will be a lot less frustrating to use than what I had to do
I realize you might not see this but oh well! Would you recommend using 205g0 on the housing (very carefully) and 106 on the springs(Halo Clears)? I'm in Canada so it can be hard to find lubes for a reasonable price. 105 oil is also an option
Yeah if you use 205g0 on just the slider rails on the housing then you should be ok. There might be a tiny bit of tactility lost but just make sure to not lube the legs on the stem. 105 and 106 are good for springs as well. I've since switched to using 105 for springs
sweet man I just lubed my halo trues they feel like butter and this is my second time. I usually lube the springs by just lubing each end. Do you recommend using bag lubing
I do yeah. It saves so much time for one thing, but the springs on halos are so much rougher than normal springs, which causes more friction so I feel that it could use as much lube as possible
@@AustinV How much lube do you put in approximately. I'm going to build another keyboard with the halo trues for my friend who wants to learn but doesn'[t want to do anything wrong. So I'm gonna partially show him how to do it.
Mmm I kind of just eyeball it but usually just 2 tiny blobs with a size 0 brush. Pretty much the amount I used in the video. Tbh it’s hard to put too much lube when it comes to bag lubing since the extra will just stick to the bag. Good luck with your build! Lmk how it turns out
Austin V ok thank you I have a brother that builds keyboards but he is in college and he lubes each spring at a time. He also says less is better than more because you can always go back and apply more. I was just wondering how much I should put in
It’s definitely true that less is better when it comes to lubing your housings/stems but you should be totally fine if your springs are extra lubed. Some people actually dip each end of their springs in lube. I’d say do whatever you think is best
Yeah you're correct on that part. The ping itself comes from the spring, but I figured I might as well lube the whole switch since I already had it taken apart
do you think lubing with 205grade0 is better or worse or what do you think the outcome is with that type of lube? also is there any difference between tribosys203 and krytox203?
For 205g0 vs 203, there isn't really a better/worse. I depends on the type of switch you have and what you're looking for. 205g0 is thicker and people prefer them for linears, but for tactiles, people like 203 because it's thinner and is able to preserve the tactile bump better. So really it's all preference. Haven't tried out tribosys yet so can't comment on that atm
I actually use 105 oil now for springs. It's not a necessity, it just makes it a lot easier to bag lube the springs. You can stick with 205 if that's all you have
@@AustinV I have the same ping problem drives me nuts too.. what do you mean by it'll take a while...? Do you mean I have to lube it a few more times before the ping disappears?
It would help a tiny bit but not enough to make a difference imo. I’d recommend swapping out the springs if you’re planning on lubing the switches anyways
Yeah they’ll actually sound a bit nicer imo since 3204 is a thicker lube than 203. The only thing is that they’ll feel a little less tactile since the lube is thicker
@@carlosmahs14 It depends on if you have plate mount or PCB mount stabs. I have a video for how to improve plate mount stabs: ruclips.net/video/68EmeHXzcxg/видео.html But basically it comes down to lubing the stabs, making sure the wires are straight, and making sure the housing doesn't move. If you have plate mount, try band aid modding.

Your editing skills are getting better! 💯🙌
Thank you!
Wow man, this is really impressive. I’m going to follow all your videos and order from your amazon links, thank you!!
Thanks so much for the support!
Good vid!
Thanks!
he got that three finger combo bro 🤣 didn't know i was at Cane's and ordering the chicken tender ‼️
The spacebar could use some more lube, but wow! That thing sounds great!

Nice video but who uses their index finger for space bar?

I’m lubing switches for the first time and I have 205 cream. Do you think it’s worth it buying new lube for the springs or was that just a suggestion

Did you edit out the ping sound? It was 100% gone. Incredible if true.
Nope, no sound editing was done for any of the sound tests
@@AustinV Crazy. The ping drives me nuts. Now I have to get some krytox.
Good luck! It’ll take a while but it’s well worth the results
@@AustinV I have the same ping problem drives me nuts too.. what do you mean by it'll take a while...? Do you mean I have to lube it a few more times before the ping disappears?
@@akumaken103 I just meant that lubing/filming switches takes a while esp when you have almost 90 switches. I think it took me about 3-4 hours total
The Halo clears are a little too hard to press for me. Will lubing them reduce how hard it is to press?
It would help a tiny bit but not enough to make a difference imo. I’d recommend swapping out the springs if you’re planning on lubing the switches anyways
@@AustinV awesome thanks!!! I want to make Holy Panda’s but want to retain my RGB.
What switch puller? the link in bio doesn’t work
can you lube Halo True Switches? personal question btw
could i lube these with tribosys 3204? and if i can, will they sound good?
Yeah they’ll actually sound a bit nicer imo since 3204 is a thicker lube than 203. The only thing is that they’ll feel a little less tactile since the lube is thicker
@@AustinV ok thank you for your help
How’s the tactility of switch after the lube?
Still relatively tactile since I used 203 instead of 205. Although halo clears aren't all that tactile to begin with
hey man i have the same switches and i tried to order the switch opener you have and the link doesnt work?
They have it on Amazon now if you still need it: amzn.to/39CFAIe

what about lubing the top housing?
I don't think lubing the top housing it all that necessary. The residual lube from the stem helps to soften the top out sounds anyways imo
not you selling me on switch films
I have to say, I can barely tell the difference
