Hi everyone! I hope you find this video helpful. What mods are you going to do first!?
Probably gonna just lube my stabilizers and add switch film to my switches.
I love ur vids
Brainbean Not all switch lubes work with stabs. I'm pretty sure the only switch lube thich enough to work is Krytox 205g0.
Lube stabs using interdental brushes! Its easy without having to remove the switches from the pcb. Tried this myself. Not perfect but gets the job done.
Spray Lube switches! Been tried out a lot in Korea, and some people like it. Using Aerosol SuperLube to lube switches rather than brushing lube. Messier, but it is easier. Havent personally tried but it works.
add a warning for when the sound test ends it's a good idea :)
Me: Let's customize our keyboard!
My wallet: We don't do that here.

I don’t even own my own mech yet but that being said-
I’m already intrigued by this hobby- didn’t know people were so into it until a few days ago. Consider me subbed.
Lol same, learned about mechanical keyboards 5 days ago and already make a custom cable, ordered ducky one 2 mecha, handmade space, enter, space keys and a pbt japanese keycap set lol.
@@StagnantMizu I wish I had money lol
Mugen why tf do people even like that board. Doesn’t even support hotswap you just stuck with same cherry switch for life like tf
Saif Bastaki i dont know much about keyboards, but i’m pretty sure you can hot swap a ducky one 2
@@TooGood4Gamesv1 No it doesn't, unfortunately, which might be a dealbreaker for some. But if you're set on which switches you like, it could be a good option if you're into RGB and like the 60% form factor. One major downside is that Ducky only offers Cherry switches (no option for Kailh box or Gateron).

putting o rings on mechanical keyboard is pretty much making your mechanical keyboard feel like membrane keyboard. At least that's how it felt when I tried putting them on.
yeah... i dont see the point of o rings at all unless your parents are gonna like throw your keyboard out cuz its too loud or something. why would you wanna make it feel mushier...?
You can get really stiff o-rings to keep stiffness but at that point why put them on if you decide to?
An odd option but it's something.
@@Shyvorix I'm considering this to reduce the travel distance of the keys and changing the actuation point to closer to the bottom out of the keypress while trying to maintain that mechanical feeling.
@@cloudpxl Yea that's fair.
When lubing I like to put a big blob of it on the back of my left hand and that’s really convenient.
damn bruh don’t gotta bring yo kinks into this
@@g1ues lmao
Out of context, this is beautiful
yep 🤣
Hey you stole my name! lmao
Even just changing to PBT caps and adding O-rings makes a huge difference. Gonna try lubing the switches when I'm in the right headspace to put a few hours into it.
absolutly love the b rolls you make, the level of detail is greatly appreciated mate! good work
I know this is one of your older videos but it's still super helpful to a noob like myself. Thank you.🙏
12:39 **lego character starts building**
Wow that really does sound nearly identical, didn't even notice it till you pointed out.
pls no o rings, they feel awful and only effect the downstroke's sound
Don’t you only feel them once the key bottoms out? I thought the whole point was to cushion the clacky bottom out feel and sound.
@@jalsol can confirm, especially if you use cheap o-rings from any amazon listing.
the "expensive" o-rings are bad, the cheap ones are abysmal.
I quite like them
@alex just clicks just don't bottom out, if you bottom out you need to learn to type friend, about silent switches Cherry MX Brown RGB are what most people prefer, out of braoader audience, not just gamers, not just mk enthusiasts, I'm more of Hako Violet fan myself
Sorry but I use a membrane keyboard and I have to bottom out every single key I press to make it actuate
Tip: You can lube your cherry or gateron switches even if soldered, you can unclip the switch from the housing to disassemble the spring and stem, more finicky but definitely doable
Can't speak for gateron switches, but this isn't true for all keyboards. All of my keyboards have plate mounted switches where you can't reach the clips.
Dereban Oh yeah true, some keyboard have no plates
@@dereban5654 can foam and lubing the keys from outside make any noticable change in my typing experience?
Ps- I can't want to de solder my switches.
I learned how to solder for guitar electronics. With an inexpensive (15dollar) iron, and a solder sucker pump I was able to desolder my corsair k70 and lubed all the switches. That and the stabilizers REALLY improved this board. No more rattle and the cherry silvers feel amazing. That being said it was tedious as hell. I don't think I'd ever want to lube switches again.
This is super helpful, thank you very much good sir

Great break down. Trying to learn all I can.
Just found this channel and you're really good at this stuff, you've earned yourself a new sub! :)
Thanks for this! I got some keycaps for my keyboard and they work great!

Great video, definitely going to go look at more recent ones after this 😂
Excited to mod my first keebs! 🙌🏼

Excellent, thanks!
thank you so much!!!!! I will try it tonight when i receive my keyboard!
Thanks!
Just got my first mechanical Keyboard might try some of these mods thank you
This is a helpful and awesome video (earned my sub easy bro.) tyvm! I ordered the GMMK Pro (medium size 75%) keyboard. It's by far the nicest keyboard I've ever owned. It made me love keyboards so much that I was even looking into cool artisan made key caps. I'm currently using the GMMK Pro with lubed glorious lynx switches and typing has become actually very fun since then. I'd highly recommend the glorious lynxes for switches. They are great for pretty much anything you'd need to do with your keyboard. The only thing about this keyboard is that it can become very pricey. I've heard they last at least 5-10 yrs tho so im not worried about how much I spent as long as I love the product. Great vids keep it up!
Mann! Randomfrankp mousepad are looking fire!! Wish that they would have it in stock soon, love ur channel btw.
Thx for the tips
Just the video I was looking for without knowing it
Great video! Missed custom springs
I just wanna bring up the fact that the closed captions are amazing on this video
It's also autogenerated
im now curious to turn captions on now

thank you timestamp terry
Thankstt
I'm definitely going to do some of these things when I get my new stock keyboard.
easiest thing that anyone can do in literally 10 seconds, flip the spacebar around so that it slopes towards you. it feels way easier to hit and its the first thing i do with every board i get.
yea dude, before i did this i had an indent on my thumb because i was hitting the edge of my space bar so much while jumping in minecraft lol.
what ? isn't i like that by default ? it was like that on my akko 3061.
I just tried it and i love it
Hate it
@@pilotreg Lolthey probably put it like that during the making
I've had my first one for maybe 2 years 3 years now? So yea thanks man
What in the name of God am I watching!
I've made it as far as "lubing them up" and instantly remembered where I'm meant to be.
Very nice video! I ordered a Keychron K12 because I really want a portable mechanical keyboard. I'm afraid I might be sucked into this hobby, though... but it's hard to know where to start. I love the Tyrael doll!
Good beginners video!
Hope you bring back keyboard reviews with some interesting mechs. Love the vids, but I’d like to see some newer mechanical keyboards as well
good video man :)
I'll try to change my switches from gatheron blues to gatheron silent reds, and to change my fixed cable to usb-c port detachable cable. i think i will try the lube and stabilizers mods also. Great video mate, thanks alot
6:09 my mans about to cut his keyboard
11:08 "make sure you don't lube the tactile bump" is one of the funniest out of context things anyone could ever hear
What about one for mouse mods? :) Any time in the future?
Alfonso R. G.G. RandomFrankP has a viseo on that
Paracord, better mouse feet, and maybe changing the microswitches into usable ones are pretty much the only ones you really need.
Next big tech youtuber right here!
damn didn't know ted cruz was into keyboards
Did ted Cruz get plastic surgery? Lookin young these days
1:41 a look at the Kira Keyboard from Kono! Boom~ I have the exact same and the reason I am watching this is because I am just now starting to customize it. A very good keyboard I must say! Have it for a few good years now and has not failed. Thank you for the video.
Is there an easy way to check for "standard" vs "nonstandard" layout? Or do you have to actually look at it (as in like, *know* what size keys are standard vs nonstandard)
Typically just looking at it is the easiest way to tell. I would pay attention to the shift key on the right side and the bottom row as those tend to be the most common keys that will be incompatible if it's non standard. Which keyboard are you wondering about?
You should always look at the keycap size relating to another. Typically an alphanumeric key is 1u. Make sure you buy the keycap kit with the right 'u' measurements. For example, some poeple want a shorter right shift to add an extra button: they would need the 1.75 u instead of 2.75u right shift then an extra 1 u key for that row.
Great video! Just wanted to tell you, in case you didn't know, there is no point in band-aid modding the stabs on the Drop Alt, because plate-mounted stabs doesn't touch the pcb.
I got the hyperx white keycaps a while ago and I love them
Could you do the last tip to a keyboard like the keychron k1 which is low profile or would it be different
My o rings just came in there are a game changer
Just about where I am at the moment, thinking about either building a 60% or trying something with my Corsair K68. Really knew nothing when I bought the board, it has Cherry MX Blue switches, I don't know whether it is soldered or hot swap. You gave plenty of explanation and sources for various modding items, thanks.
Corsair boards are all soldered
modding your stabs - "could not imagine life without it"
wow you must be doing it tough man
People also use those connection cords for the fact that some have better connection speeds than others, usually they reduce the delay from each key press to seeing it on screen, especially compared to the cord you receive out of the box.
@Rando actually 1 second delay is heavily noticeable. With the drivers I run the stock cord that came with my RK61 has a 1.7 second delay which if you’re playing a competitive game that seriosuly affects gameplay and can bring a 4.0 KD in COD down to 0.3 KD
what can i say other than i abselutely love you :)
i love my gateron optical browns especially after i did the foam mod
Lube as you please. If you want a smoother bump you can always lightly lube the legs. I prefer my Zealios fully lubed, as it tones down the sharpness just a bit.
That ad looked a lot like jayztwocentz’s ad space...
I'm making my first keyboard soon canr wait
Yo brain, for the band aid mod do you cut the part with the fabric on it or only the sticky underside part? Confused on that. Sick vid and sick edits my guy.
fun fact: u can still lube non hot-swappable switches, just hold down the keycap stem with a small flat head screwdriver and apply lube to the sides of the switch with a small tip paint brush.
no
@@sarpp69 yes
@@sarpp69 It does lube the switch a tiny bit but for most it's not enough and it is definitely not as thorough as a full teardown and lubing all areas properly.
Would you recommend trying to get cherry stabilizers and modding that? It seems to be sold out everywhere.
Or is just modding the stock stabs sufficient ?
depends
What keyboard is the one you're using for this video? Sounds great!
In this video is mentioned that you can use aviator connectors to swap out keyboards. Although its very important the keyboard not connected to the usb end when you connect the aviator as you can fry your pcb.
I like the typewriter-style keys
Hey nice video. What mouse pad are you using? The black one with the white topographic design
I'm new to the keyboard game and didnt know how expensive it could be. 50-100 bucks for a USB cable is mental! Holy
I put some tape on the inside of my space bar it seemed to help a bit
I’m moding my stabilizers rn!
My fav is the stuff inside the pillows
what about dampening foam? I feel like nobody ever talks about it.
justanotherpxrson *-* I just applied dampening foam between pcb and case and I can definitely notice the reverberation is pretty much gone now. Great and easy mod
It depends on your keyboard and what it's make out of. For some it has barely any effect and some could really use it
No. Use rubber butyl instead.
Fangaming Facts never heard of that
Reccomend making your own custom cables, once you buy your first for like 50 then each one after is 15 as you have the equipment already
Hey, great video! I also have the Drop Ctrl and would like to mod my stabs. How did you do it on the Ctrl? Those stabs appear to be quite a bit different than the cherry Mx style ones you were showing in the vid...thanks man!
There a different model there called
Costa
Brainbean: recommends lubing stabs
Me, who uses Costa stabs: ._.
You can actually lube costar stabs, though improvement is not as much as cherry style stabs.
You lube the holes in the nubs and and the parts where the wire connects into the board/PCB I think? Idk if there's vids on RUclips though
@@rynne7153 yeah I know. Immediately after commenting this, I went searching for the guide and now I can confidently say that my spacebar isn't rattling anymore
@@LilacFPS Awesome!
You can also apply the bandaid method to costars, you just put the bandaid inside the part that clips into the plate (very thin strip) helps with that bottom high pitch clack.

Also switch lube for stabilizers are Krytox 205g0 ONLY, others lives are either too thin or just harder to work with compared to dielectric grease.
Dielectric grease is also much cheaper for the amount you get
@@Dubufy should work just fine. it's not that hard to work with, and feels fine after lubing (I lubed my reds with 105 as well)
I’m new to the keyboard world and my Christmas list was all of my parts I can’t wait to get them and build it
what did u get?
@@mohawk4759 I got a white gk61x with box browns I know they aren’t the best switch. And some pink and blue cherry blossom style key caps
@@mohawk4759 total was 140
@@thattypicalomni9738 nice ive never used box browns so idk how they are lol. only have used razer greens and mx reds in my 3 years of using a razer keyboard and like 5 months of being exposed to the world of custom mechs
We need a setup/room tour!
No
I remember doing a 104 key keyboard and pulling apart the switches by hand and the next day my thumbs, index finger, and ring finger, we red, swollen and it was like that for a couple days... for your health and sanity just get a switch opener, they are pretty cheap and then you won’t have to fail at life like me XD
Good luck on your Keyboard Endeavors Everyone!
Ok, before I watch the video I'ma guess what the upgrades are.
1. Bandaid under the switches to reduce the wiggling and make it more solid
2. Color code the keyboard for specific finger placements.
3 lube switches for buttery smooth travel
4. Place dampener pad under pcb to quiet the "ping" noise from switches & keycaps.
5. And while it's not technically a hard mod adding a forearm rest to the keyboard is a def win in my book.
I bow to you and say: Sensei!
im chillin with my entry level $40 Outemu Blue switch Soldered Keyboard. might change soon to Ducky one or keychron
Ducky has a great reputation for a reason imo. i just got the one 2, and its the lil things, like an extra pack of colored keys, special spacebar and esc key and key puller is nice addition, you can tell they are passionate about it.
Question; with the modding the stabilisers, is there anything better than using band-aids?
i just put some random lube in my soldered in switches lol
I just got a Keychron K2. My first mechanical. I'm considering doing a very simple mod when I saw Cherry MX made these small sets of colored WASD and arrow keys.
But, since I'm a typist by trade, I worry that the WASD keys will feel different compared to the original K2 set. Will they?
