Some part of the emotion of the song is missing when this is played without the slide guitar, I think. It's still a good live performance though. And to the poster above, yes, dudes crushed on Hope Sandoval big time lol.

I don't think there are many people that were young adults in the nineties that didn't have a massive crush on Hope Sandoval! 😍
Her on stage persona was genuine shyness and stage fright. She didn't like getting up in front of an audience. I think that's one of the things that makes her so unique, in a positive way.

This is at the annual benefit concert for The Bridge School that's hosted by Neil Young. They teach kids with speech and physical impairments, including Young's 2 boys with cerebral palsy. He also hosts the artists volunteering their time at his ranch, and when Tom Yorke (Radiohead) was practicing Cinnamon Girl on piano, Young suggested he play it on the original piano with which he recorded it.

As someone in his 40s, this takes me back to my younger years....and a girl i dated one summer. I remember one night listening to this song while I drove her home... and it playing in my head as we made out on her doorstep after I dropped her off. While it was a nice fling, it was not one of my serious relationships in my life. But that moment, with this song in my head, a pretty girl in my arms, with the smell of wet grass after a thunderstorm, and the sound o f summer crickets.... will always be special to me. It reminds me of one special moment when I was young. The girl and the day have faded away but the music and feeling still remain and give me a smile.

When music is able to suspend your motion and clutch your psyche with mystical intensity, as was the case with Mazzy Star when I first came across them, you know it sits in the unique echelon of art. Part of what made this reaction by you guys so gripping is it mirrored the same reaction as me when I first heard Hope's voice; speechless, dream-like, and in awe. Her vocals feel as though you are ascending into the peaks of the upper-world. I would never have thought Mazzy star's indie alternative style would appeal to me at all, but since hearing Look On Down From the Bridge after that infamous Rick 'n' Morty episode - everything changed. This live-performance version at The Bridge is the best one for me . The resonance of the acoustics and sharpness of Hope's voice transcends any version of the song for me. Masterpiece.

That style of music is called Shoegaze from a style of music called paisley underground music that was popular in the mid 80s it was popular style of rock music from the mid or late 1980s thru the 1990s ! It’s supposed to represent a chilled inner self version of rock similar to dreampop ! All these genres made up some really awesome music like the Band my bloody valentine and Slowdive , Cocteau Twins and so on... Mazzy Star was a great band until the lead guitarist passed away last year I think ! Their music is a chilled but energized vibe !

She was the anti-star star. Walking off stage and not acknowledging the audience was just who she was. So refreshing. And the song....no frills....just unloading emotion and a poetic deeply emotional way.
Rare these says with all the pyrotechnics, back up dancers, clown costumes, vulgarity passing as lyrics. Stuff like this would never go over with high school/college crowd.

This entire album is so good! Another amazing vocalist is Liz Fraser. Listen to This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Siren". It's a cover but her voice is so gorgeous in this version!

Elizabeth Fraser is my favorite female vocalist. I'd go with Cocteau Twins' "Donimo" and This Mortal Coil's "Another Day."

Yes!! So cool you guys reacted to this.
I remember reading somewhere Hope Sandoval suffers from severe shyness which would explain her on stage behaviour

    That's Hope Sandoval.
Please check out her solo work as you have time. It's amazing. "Drop" or "Suzanne".

This song is 56 times better if you shut your eyes while listening. Let the song fill your body, the way smoke fills a bottle.

You guys have GOT to do more Mazzy Star. The album before this was my bedtime album for all of HS in 1990. Their best song IMO, and one of the best songs ever made, is called “Look On Down From The Bridge”. Sopranos fans will remember that one.

Hope Sandoval dated William Reid from The Jesus and Mary Chain for a few years and sings on their '92 album a duet called Sometimes Always. Other Shoegaze songs/bands well worth exploring:
Ride: OX4, Time Machine, I don't know where it comes from, Black Nite Crash...
    Lush: Leaves me Cold, Bitter
The Jesus and Mary Chain: She, Head On, Reverence, Almost Gold....]
    Other angelic voices:
Camera Obscura: Swimming Pool, I should be suspended from class, French Navy...
She & Him (Zooey Deschanel + M. Ward): I put a spell on you (live on Conan), I could have been your girl, In the Sun
Coeur de Pirate: Francis, Pour un Infidele, Jeb Rand (english song as part of Armistice)

This song reminds me of a girl I fell in love with WAY back in 1994 when I was 21. Man, those were good times. Every good memory of my youth had a fantastic song a tied to it.

Bless this girl, she went through the Mill with fame. Wherever she is I hope she's well. This song is Summer for me, laying on the grass with headphones in. Bliss.

She suffers from crippling shyness, and that really comes through in her performance.

@Marcus Nah..Sometimes she has concerts with the lights out. Read any interview with her, and it always comes up. In her own words she has " crippling shyness" which prevents her from looking at the audience.
