This woman, back in the 50s would have been a full-time home-maker so she would have all day to do things around the house. That was typically her job back then. Nowadays, with both spouses having to work just to pay the mortgage and bills, there’s little time for this kind of home management. We shouldn’t feel inadequate because of that. Besides, a bit of dust or clutter hurt no one and will be still there when there is more time to tend to it.

Your channel is lovely! I am a stay at home wife and I absolutely love showing my family how much I love them by making nice meals. For over a decade I was a teacher and worked outside the home. When I left work to have our first child, I realized how wonderful the world of homemaking can be.
You need to put hand lotion on & then wear rubber gloves when you do dishes. It's a little trick that keeps your hands smooth. I use Platex Living Gloves. Love your content.
What a beautiful video, Sage. Even though I grew up in the 80s & 90s, so many people’s homes still looked like they were from the 50s & 60s. I love 50s & 60s fashion and take inspiration from it for myself.
i'm adverse to amount of patience and dedication required in the brushing one's hair at least 50 strokes a day to keep it healthy and shiny, but I'm all for the lavender scented bubble bath and the potatoes covered in that rich creamy sauce! Also when they acted out "greet your husband gaily at the door" that part made me chuckle!
You should do a 1950s date night or preparation for something nice. I know that doesn’t make sense during COVID era but I’ve always been interested in that topic!
It would wouldn’t be that different remember at that time the government was brainwashing people on tv to stay inside and build bomb shelters claiming Russia and Cuba was out to get them. No change just you call it covid not bomb.
These videos are so calming, I am getting better (slowly!) at keeping the home clean and cooking home made meals ect. Something about this routine is so nice haha.
Seeing your content always sparks joy. There is something beautiful about the simplicity of daily routines that make time for husband and wife as well as for home management and self-care.
Something that my mom taught me when working with raw potatoes was to keep them in a bowl of cold water while whole or even cut so that they don't go brown. The potato water can then be used for soups or gravy afterwards. Lovely channel. Thank you. ❤
This goes for most fruit and vegetables as they tend to brown from oxidization! For fruit you can also squeeze lemon juice over them to prevent browning. As long as the oxygen flow is cut off, they shouldn't turn brown.
Yup! My mom did. My husband comes home at 11pm. So most nights I try to make sure I have a nice night gown on and spray the sheets with some jasmine. It’s so ironic that I just sent my grandmother your 1950s week in a life video yesterday, and to come out with a new one! I have at least watch that video 20 times.
I have a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old. Not every day is easy, but they are much more manageable than they were when I had a newborn and a 2 yr old. If you have babies I'd say just try to focus on them and don't push yourself too far until they're a bit older. The trick is to not expect too much. My house gets cleaned, but not all at one time. For example, today I did the bathrooms and couldn't get the showers cleaned. That's alright, I'll do it another day. When I cook, I try to make healthy foods that don't require much prep work. The kids eat a lot of fruit. Lol. Tomorrow I'm throwing a chicken and some cut up veggies in the oven for dinner. Yesterday I did a 12 minute yoga workout because that's all the time I had. Breaking the work into small, manageable chunks is key for me.
The 5 o'clock after work drink is something that I always refer to as the Doris Day era...& the olay night cream..didn't realize how long its been around..

You made gratin dauphinois how exquisite! Used to go to the house of my grandparents friend, they are french, and they made the best gratin ever, fond memories.
I really wonder how ladies managed to look good after cooking dinner. I tend to look like a hot mess with the alluring perfume of garlic and frying oil. 😂
i think people really smelled different back then.. they only washed their hair like once a week. so i think people were used to hair full of smoke and cooking etc
My mom and grandma are my favorite cooks and of course I get my cooking from them by being in the kitchen watching them and wanting to cook as well too also as a child. My favorite chef of all times was always Julia Childs and I would watch her everytime I could catch her on tv at my grandparents. I get my love for old fashion stuff from them like western, music, vintage furniture, clothes, and etc but of course I love my modern stuff too as well.
love these 40/50's routines. we have a 1940's weekend at a local museum every July. it was cancelled last year understandably because of covid so really hoping we are in a better place this year. love these Sunday videos its a nice way to wake up here in the uk
Your skin care routine is so simple yet feels so luxurious when you do it. I have tried all of the products from the facial cleansing bar, ponds cold cream, and the Olay pink cream and I love it! My skin feels wonderful. Honestly I didn't have any sort of skin care products besides a bottle of lotion before I saw how wonderful your routine seemed. And it is so affordable! A lovely way to pamper yourself without breaking the bank. Thanks so much!
I learned to cook in mid 1970's from the old Betty Crocker cookbook & I still use it often. I still use Pond's as well. Some things just never go out of style or work as well as the older stuff. I used to read before bed but fell into the tv trap but going back to reading soon. Great memories this video.
If all the bad of those times where swept away and all where treated equal, I would absolutely love to live during these times.. simple pleasant times.
In 1973 i mived to Texas to go to school and I lived with my aunt and uncle. My aunt was a stsy at jome mom who did everything just like the video. Love how James dressed up for this one 😉 You guys are too cute. And wow so amazing to see your beautiful yard and garden. Living in MN and been stuck inside due to subzero temps for a couple weeks. Lovely to see all the green! Thank you for your lovely content 🥰
Gosh can 1950's housewife pop over to mine at 5pm every day!!😉 Hope 1950's hubby (James) is appreciating the effort you put in. Had no idea you could still buy Ponds cold cream, apparently its still sold at Priceline here in Melbourne. Loved it. Thankyou.
Yes Pond is still around and I use their facial creams and I love it. Family use it since the 1960's and it works great. I get Ponds on Amazon cheaper and comes it packs love it.
I switched to using Ponds cold cream to remove makeup - it’s incredibly effective, but I find it a little oily so it needs to we cleansed off properly after wiping. I used to use Olay from way back when my mum used it (and it was called Oil of Ulan!), and also Nutrimetics apricot kernel oil and Nivea cream. Wow I feel old! 😂 I’ve realised I own the same lippy Sage touches up in this video. It’s a lovely shade.
I never paid it any mind but am thinking of buying it tonight & giving it a try. I work nights and clean & cook & make sure our kid does his homework & take care of the pets. It’s exhausting but I’m trying to find some time for me in the process.
I loved this video! Thank you so much!! These really help me reconnect with values and habits that I want to keep in my life but keep forgetting xx you are a healthy and enjoyable reminder to live one step at a time and take time to enjoy the little things in life xx keep it up!!

I was gonna suggest you make an ASMR video, but it's not just your voice that relaxed me,it was the whole vibe of 1950s! I almost remember a simpler time.
In my day-to-day life full of hustle, I have a deep desire to live a more relaxed life like the 1950s.. While it isn't practically possible to do that, just watching these videos helps me satisfy that urge to a great extent! It is soooo relaxing!
I love these videos. I think you do an excellent job at giving everyone a look into the past. I remember some of the breakfast and dinner recipes you make that my Mom made for us back on the late fifties.
I love your videos, they bring me peace and comfort in these times we live in now! I so very much wish things were still done like they used to be, thank you so much ❤️
Thank you so much for making a evening routine from the 1950's! It motivates me to switch it up and I would love to do this myself! What card games do you and James enjoy playing together after dinner? ☺️
I think she said in her Q and A that she doesn’t own modern clothing. I think she might incorporate some vintage into her cleaning but probably not all the time as it’s time consuming.
I dress vintage all the time and I sometimes like to incorporate these vintage routines! But the vintage lifestyle routines are mostly for the videos! 😊
U have so much energy and are adorable:) I wish I could live back in the 50’s. It was a simpler time. I love to cook (though I’m not one for cleaning that much. Lol) and quiet nights with no cell phones and connecting with loved ones. I’d love to see a video on your favorite nightly beauty routine!
Why is it that when I watch a modern day night routine I don’t feel productive, but when I watch a 1950’s night routine I feel like cleaning my room and taking a bath. 🤔😂

I would’ve put my head in the oven
me too, I was dead in a month, if I have to spend time in the 50s
What is your job than?
😂😂😂 I feel extremely anxious without a very strict routine
You made gratin dauphinois how exquisite! Used to go to the house of my grandparents friend, they are french, and they made the best gratin ever, fond memories.
I love being a housewife and I love the 50s!! I just stumbled upon your channel, now I’m a subscriber! Love your content! Thank you!!
I really wonder how ladies managed to look good after cooking dinner. I tend to look like a hot mess with the alluring perfume of garlic and frying oil. 😂
Me too!
i think people really smelled different back then.. they only washed their hair like once a week. so i think people were used to hair full of smoke and cooking etc
A good defence against vampires :)
This was so cute! I love all your 1950s routine videos, you do them so well! I giggled when James knocked on his own door.
Your video is so good! You should be very proud of your hard work. I’m obsessed with your channel
Thank you so much! 😊
This kinda reminds me of the show "BEWITCHED" .
The careful editing around the 'Fright Night' that ACTUALLY occurs when removing one's makeup with Ponds is not lost on me. 👍😂
Everytime I get your notification, I know it's noon here in Los Angeles
love these 40/50's routines. we have a 1940's weekend at a local museum every July. it was cancelled last year understandably because of covid so really hoping we are in a better place this year. love these Sunday videos its a nice way to wake up here in the uk
Your videos just warm my heart!! So nice to see warm weather after the week I've had! Lol. (Texas)
Aw that means a lot, thank you! Xx
I like the fact that your husband is also appearing in the vid and going along with the role💚
She sewed, vook a wonderful dinner every nght but the thing she did that was so special was just like this wife, dhe greeted my uncle home every night slong with their kids and me. To do tjis dhe would go into the bathroom to refresh her makeup snd gic her hair and lastly new lipstick. He worked at Texas Instruments and my aunt worked to create a loving home. So glad i was a part of that 😊
Was your aunt Ms. Brown or related to her?
@@kavyrose4016 no, their last name is Lively. Thanks for asking, it brought back many nice memories. Debbie
This is such a sweet video! I take good care of my husband and he takes good care of me, we work as a team! Isn't it great we all have our own way of doing things and it just works!
I have a toddler and life just feels like so hectic , these videos are so relaxing 😌
You made the algorithm and I'm here for it. What a awesome idea for a channel. This was just so relaxing
Aw thanks so much for watching!! 😊
That orange bar of 'pears soap" dates back to the early 1900s . Sage is really going 'rustic" !.
I hope you get to be a housewife someday! I just started following but I really enjoy your content and it's what my life was prior to my 1&2 yo. I imagine it'll be this way again once they are grown and making their own homestead. I absolutely love being a homemaker, wife and mother.
I love the bloopers at the end. Life can be so simple if you let it be. Your videos are so calming. Keep them coming please!
Thanks so much for watching! 💞🥰
You are so gorgeous! You definitely give me the 1950’s vibe :)
Aw thank you! 💞
i wasn't born until much later, but i loved the books i went thru in my grandparents homes and loved every bit of it. Thank you so much for bringing it to life. I wish this life would come back again. The sweet good old days. You and James look beautifully old fashioned. !!

You make such lovely videos and another subscriber mentioned perfectly how amazing these videos are for people who grew up without routine. I’m definitely learning a lot of simple comforts that I never allowed myself before recently. You display such a lovely balance of joyful servitude and self care. Thank you so much and can’t wait for more videos!
Also, I love your cooking, would you consider recipes videos?
Thank you so much, for bring me joy and I really want to be that woman in our days! I think this is very important to have joy at home 🏡 thank you so much! You are fantastic 🤍🥰

So adorable! Dinner looked amazing! I can't wait for your cooking show! Love how James dressed up for this one 😉 You guys are too cute. And wow so amazing to see your beautiful yard and garden. Living in MN and been stuck inside due to subzero temps for a couple weeks. Lovely to see all the green! Thank you for your lovely content 🥰
Aw you are the sweetest! Thanks so much for watching! Xx 💞
Basically a perfect representation of my perfect life
I loved everything about this video 😍 so dreamy and simple and wholesome and lovely. Would love to see more videos like this!
The nutmeg in the white sauce was a nice touch.
Your videos are THE BEST. I've been looking for videos like this for months. I wish you had more videos 🥺😭
Aw thanks so much! ☺️
Really love your routine videos! They're like watching a good old classic relaxing movie🥰
Thanks so much! 😊💕
Please make a video on Man’s life in 50’s. Wanted to enjoy the other side as well !!
I wish life was always like this... i absolutely love this video! My grandma was born in 1950. Love this!
I’ve realised I own the same lippy Sage touches up in this video. It’s a lovely shade.
I never paid it any mind but am thinking of buying it tonight & giving it a try. I work nights and clean & cook & make sure our kid does his homework & take care of the pets. It’s exhausting but I’m trying to find some time for me in the process.
Ponds is also in Walmart I think.
Most relaxing thing I've ever seen
I loved this video! Thank you so much!! These really help me reconnect with values and habits that I want to keep in my life but keep forgetting xx you are a healthy and enjoyable reminder to live one step at a time and take time to enjoy the little things in life xx keep it up!!
That means so much, thank you! 💕✨
I am 11 years old and sage really inspires me I love Lucille ball and everything vintage so I binge watch all of her vids
Always such beautiful videos , my darling grand parents lived like this . And I’m so blessed to have most of her things as I’m a true vintage girl at heart . I work full time as I own a business but I still look after my husband and home and he looks after me . We love our vintage traditions that we do . And we have been happily married for 25 years . Thank you for your channel it makes me feel normal xxx have a great day
Thank you so much for watching! Xx 💕😊
I was gonna suggest you make an ASMR video, but it's not just your voice that relaxed me,it was the whole vibe of 1950s! I almost remember a simpler time.
YES!! You are giving me what I need! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these vids! You are perfectly adorable!!
Thank you!! 💕
I’m 33 and I still use Pond’s cold cream to remove make up. It is the best!
I can’t remember how I found your channel but I am glad I did 😊 Never knew this was the wholesome content I needed
Aww hehe! xx
In my day-to-day life full of hustle, I have a deep desire to live a more relaxed life like the 1950s.. While it isn't practically possible to do that, just watching these videos helps me satisfy that urge to a great extent! It is soooo relaxing!
Your videos make me smile! So sweet and well done. You should do a video on how they threw parties back in the 50s
I love these videos. I think you do an excellent job at giving everyone a look into the past. I remember some of the breakfast and dinner recipes you make that my Mom made for us back on the late fifties.
That dress really suits you 😍
Thank you! 😊
@@SageLilleyman would you kindly tell us if it's an actual vintage garment or is it available somewhere?
I love your videos, they bring me peace and comfort in these times we live in now! I so very much wish things were still done like they used to be, thank you so much ❤️
Rebecca is my absolute favorite book!
Thank you so much for making a evening routine from the 1950's! It motivates me to switch it up and I would love to do this myself! What card games do you and James enjoy playing together after dinner? ☺️
Do you actually incorporate vintage lifestyle to your routines or is it just for the purpose of your videos? Cause this is like the dream......
That's a great question. I think she dresses vintage all the time.
@@SageLilleyman cool! Cause I watched your exercise videos and wanted to try them. I just don't know if they really work or not :p
@@fraisedesbois7240 my mom always told me "the best exercise is the one you will do", so I say do the workout if you like it. 🙂
