Overalls and jackets were made from her parents cast off coats and woolen trousers and jackets. She was a wonderful Mum, told us wonderful stories while she was breastfeeding the youngest baby and we always had a bedtime story. We had a bath every night. Washing was done once a week by boiling up the copper. It was wonderful when she got an electric wringer washing machine. Dad left for work at 6.30a and got home at 5.30p. You didn't have a Mom, Lynda, you had a super hero! She sounds like such an amazing person. The 50s was definitely a lot harder on people than is some times portrayed. My own grandmother had her first two children in the 50s and would to on to raise nine more throughout her life! Their strength is unmatched.
My mother also was a superhero! She had the first 5 of her children during the fifties. Since we moved to a different state and my father was getting started in his own business, my mother worked full time outside the house for about a year. My grandmother watched us.
Well it is so true. Any of these "50's housewife" videos that don't include children are complete fantasies. This would have been your day for maybe a year after your wedding...
Ever since your, " Living the life of 50's Housewife " first came out...I fell secretly in love all over again. What a classic time of so many changes of beautiful....My heart still lives there❤
I am amazed at how much of a housewife’s day is consumed by food prep. That is a big breakfast, had tea, then she went grocery shopping, then made lunch, then made lunch, then had tea and a cookie, then made dinner, dishes etc. it’s the entire day!
@@terrisserose please tell me how you don’t cook. I would really like to do less if it. I like cooking but I am doing it and eating all day. Today I have made my kids scrambled eggs, bagels, Raman noodles and a hot dog just for lunch. Nothing is hard it’s just time consuming to make all these individual things all the time.
My mother was telling me about her 1959 routine after she married Dad. She would get out of bed at 5am and put makeup on. put up her hair in a fashionable pony tail with a ribbon to match her dress, stockings and a pretty dress. She would get dressed in the spare bedroom. She would then brew coffee and get everything ready to prepare breakfast for Dad who would be up and dressed for work,Dad worked in construction on a site so he would have he’s work gear on. Mum would prepare Dads lunch box and coffee wail Dad ate he’s breakfast usually eggs bacon , toast , cornflakes, orange juice and black coffee. When Dad left for work Mum would clean the entire house, make the bed and clean the kitchen, do the washing and water the garden. Then mum would prepare her shopping list for the day. Mum was fortunate to have her own car so she would drive to the big supermarket downtown and purchase what she needed for the day. Back at home she would have lunch do a spot of gardening then maybe watch Days of Our lives on tv then she would plan dinner. Usually soup and than basic meat and veggies for dinner followed by ice cream and jello. My mum and Dad would watch a little television before bed . Dad used to shower as soon as he came home from work because he would have concrete and dirt on him from working on the construction sites. My mum would shower at night and put on a pretty night gown for Dad. They would both go to bed early and get up early. They never slept in on weekends either it was always the same. Dad would do repairs around the house on Saturdays and cut the lawn and sometimes on Saturday night Dad would take mum to the movie theatre or drive in . Sometimes they would go to another couples house for dinner. On Sundays they would go to the beach or go on a picnic together or a romantic drive. My parents even though they wear Catholics didn’t attend Sunday Mass like other couples did they love God they just aren’t religious. My parents are in their late 80s now and still going strong and together and mum still dresses well for Dad. 👗❤️
So I found these videos yesterday and apparently it was just the thing to kick-start my executive function! Since then I’ve showered, done two loads of laundry, kept the dishes clean, and even made eggs! I have ADHD, so basic household chores are really hard for me, so this has been super helpful! Sometimes you just gotta dress up and pretend you’re a 1950’s housewife to get stuff done :)
LOL wait i know this is 2 years later but I also have ADHD and had literally the same exact experience (more so w the week of 1950s housewife video) 😂 I think it’s because it made cleaning feel like a game almost and tricked my brain into wanting to do it

Yes indeed. I am born and raised in New York city- everyone here is always in such a rush to do everything. I wish everyone, myself included, would just slow down a bit.
How life could be is right. Most women started having babies within the first year of marriage and that changed everything. The honeymoon was over when the woman became a mother, maybe even before then. Her routine changed drastically. Women who had only 1,2, or 3 children had the most likely change of having a 'breath of fresh air' married life. Any more than that, and it's all over, sweetie. No matter how much you love your offspring, they are a LOT of work.
Funny story. You inspired me to try Ponds Cold Cream. It has been around for so long, so I assumed it must be good. And it IS! I look forward to it every evening. One time my dad saw it on my bathroom counter and said "Hey, my mom and grandma used this." So I talked to my grandma about it and she said even HER grandma used it. It was so fun learning about this simply from a cream inspired from your channel! Love your videos!!
I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel. So much of this I could imagine my mum doing in her early twenties. She was a simple homemaker who kept an immaculate house for her farmer husband and five daughters, a simple cook of beautiful, tasty food and she was always well dressed. I grew up smelling her Oil of Olay (originally Ulan) moisturiser and this is what I use today, age 57. I remember Ponds cold cream (we moisturised our sunburn shoulders with it). Never a day went by without made beds, laundry was done in a single day, once a week and dishes washed after every meal, never left until the morning! I can remember mum sighing with relief when she took off her girdle, much like me whipping off my bras when I get home now 😂 Your food looks delicious and true to the times. I just love this! ☺️
Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience! I’ve been a stay at home mom/housewife for 18 years, and your Mother is exactly the type of woman I’ve tried to model myself, and lifestyle after! I never made a good working/corporate mom/wife…. My ADHD lets me be EXCELLENT and consistent at what I enjoy, but if I don’t enjoy it, I’m trash at it. 😂 That said, homemaking, cooking, taking care of the babies/people I love, decorating our home, working the finances/investments, chores, all those types of things are truly what I enjoy… and when I couldn’t be solely focused on them, my heart and longed to. Props to my husband and best, best friend, for being an exceptional provider, who also believes in (and desired) this lifestyle…. We catch flack here and there, for God knows what reason (it’s “old fashioned”, I guess), but in my opinion, if it’s successful, and everyone is happy, it’s the PERFECT dynamic for you…. I mean, I’m 38 and my home will be paid off this year! I would have never had the focus in the corporate world to pay off a home, let alone save up and buy vehicles, toys, etc cash….. we’ve not been wealthy by any means, but we pinched and scraped to be sure we were out of debt fast. Hubby is always very concerned about making sure we are set up in such a way that if he wasn’t here, I could easily make ends meet. Obviously life insurance is a great modern benefit, but even without, we have almost no bills (besides utilities and food and such), after we make the last few house payments this year….. I hope (in my lifetime) to see the media/public influencers encourage couples (who want to) to fix what’s broke, instead of throwing it away….. in the long run, the value and outcome are absolutely priceless. Society has progressed in many ways over time, but I believe we’ve also regressed in many ways…
I LOVE your videos. I put them on sometimes while I'm washing the dishes. I'm a stay at home mom right now and I feel weirdly seen when I watch your videos, like someone knows my life and the importance of my work. You're awesome, keep it up!
And now we need to do the same things and WORK. Omg life is so exhausting. I feel a little bit scammed by society, we all need shorter working hours (men & women) to enjoy our house and family... is not a bad thing! It is true life.
Alicia, I agree with you. Watching these videos shows us how a simpler, slower life really can be enjoyable (without all the things we think we need today). I had to smile when she got out the carpet sweeper as I use this too & prefer it to a noisy vacuum cleaner. I also do dishwashing by hand & actually like a sinkfull of hot sudsy water & letting everything dry in the dish rack. Our dishwasher broke last year & we never bothered to replace it!
I agree. Personally, I think in many ways feminism (2nd wave and on) is to blame for this. Feminism didn’t “free” women from homemaking, childcare, the kitchen etc, it just put one extra burden on us; working. So now instead of being a “slave” to our husbands/family, we’re “slaves” to our families still AND a corporation and our bosses who couldn’t care less about us. I would much rather be a “slave” to the man whom is in love with me and our little ones. I think the choice to do either is awesome as not every woman has that desire. But the way society and the economy is set up today, most women are forced to work whether they want to or not.
@@lyssadobbins7209 I understand your frustration Lyssa but we need feminist to defend our rights. I feel more scammed by work life balance and the salary women have, because we are not appreciated as men in workforce. I don't think that there are nothing bad in new wave of feminism, I just want to work less or to be appreciated as a housewife like in the past. Now is all work work production...money. it's jus t not human for anybody.
Thank you for taking the time to make such beautifully assembled, dynamic and polished videos. ❤️ You have encouraged me to start looking back at the past generations with a new degree of appreciation! Your short films are an inspiration, and I have started to cook more from scratch, implement a routine and, so far, I am loving this new season of my young adult life. You embody so much grace, dignity and joy it's infectious!
Showed your videos to my mom (who was a 70's housewife) and she was delighted, since this was a routine she was very familiar with, passed down from her own mother to her. She only had me, but my grandmother did all this with 4 kids...wow.
Sage I have to say everyone enjoyed your vintage housewife video so much that we want to see mostly vintage videos from you like Cooking, clothes, etc.... we are hungry for that stuff since we are modern day housewives and need enjoyment on RUclips and you provide it darling ❤️❤️ give us that please! You provide what we housewives strife to be daily for our husband and children. It’s not a joke.
I remember my Grandma always setting the table like this for every meal. When I stayed with them in my 20s we would prepare all our meals and set the table with linens and all the condiments. Every day we had afternoon coffee and a biscuit.
I truly live my life this way each and everyday, except I have two boys. There is a sense of freedom when you live this way and not have social media. I have no regrets. Love all your video's you post!
That's excellent! I love there are people like you, and we need more. We're all turning into zombies (says the girl staring at YT.... Better get going😂)✌
I love watching these types of time warp videos to help motivate myself to function on a higher level. Edit: James dresses like my dad, and shares his name lol.
I started using Cold Cream because of you, and it’s been amazing for my skin! No one in my family that I’ve known used it when I was growing up, and it’s honestly the first cleanser I’ve used that didn’t make my skin red.
She did not need to go the extra mile with the authentic decor and background music but she did and that is why I love her so much ✨ Also can we please make memes of that Lucy bit? The potential is limitless
This is so sweet. Being born in the 60s, I saw some of this. I remember helping my mom hang wash out on the line. We only had a washing machine (an automatic, thank heavens) and no dryer. We had to hang wash in the basement in the winter. Chicago winters freeze the damp wash before it dries. My friends and I used to run through the hung up sheets, in the yard or in the basement and scream and laugh. My mom also had a jar of Ponds Cold Cream on her dresser. It had a pink top with three women with their heads together, a brunette, a red head and a blonde. My husband and I have a "Vintage Medicine cabinet" with glass over it in our downstairs bathroom. It has things you would have found in an old time bathroom and I even found an empty jar of Pond's Cold Cream with the three women's faces on the lid! It was a great find. (We did this before EBay, too.) Thank you, Sage. I'm enjoying your videos and your sunny personality so much!
I met one of my great grandmothers, but she died when I was a baby (she was 83) so I don’t remember her. These videos are quite interesting and are a reminder of how different life was back then.
I loved this so much!!! Sage, you are an Angel! Please do more videos like this! I don’t know why it’s so relaxing to have the vintage music playing while you make meals, vacuum, and go grocery shopping but I love seeing these “DITL” videos! I’m just amazed at the extra length you go to, like the magazines, the rotary phone, etc. I adored seeing you in the headscarf! And your dance moves make me want to clean my house in high spirits while listening to Benny Goodman! James looks so dashing, you’d better watch out! 😅
You bring back so many happy memories of a simpler time. I can still smell the cold cream my grandmother used everyday. I thought that you two would sit down to TV dinners. My mother cooked all the time, so eating out or splurging on a TV dinner was special. Love your vintage bathing suit and hat, pj’s and cosmetics collection! You two are cute, cute, cute! 🥰👡🕶👛💕
This makes me think I might need a carpet sweeper 😂 also your "it's winter so it's cold before I go in the outdoor pool" scene was so funny! Outdoor pools here are drained and not touched from September through May, at the earliest 🥲
So many comments banging on about the phone mistake - does no one else read others' comments before posting? I thought your video was wonderful, Sage. Enjoyed every minute 🤗
I feel as if this is the most authentic 1950s housewife RUclips video there is. Your house still looks like a house would back then. Plus James looks like a 1950s husband.
I absolutely love this, I love the 40s and 50s, the class and beauty but also the pride one had in appearance and home! Husband doesn’t quite understand my obsession haha. Love from a woman across the way in NZ
I am in my mid 20’s, I keep a landline telephone from our province’s 1st telephone company, which still supports pulse dialling. So when I call people I like to tell them I called them on a phone that is 50+ years old. Can’t understand how a phone that old works. Lol. Cannot miss when someone calls my house. Have 2 pulse and 1 touch tone desk phones with the bell ringers. Lol
I'm old enough to have used one of those rotary dial phones and I have to tell you that they didn't work unless you picked up the receiver before dialling LOL. Obviously just a prop though in this video! Beautifully made, Sage!
There is something so calming about your voice and videos that even if I’m stressed out at work like today I feel like you calm me right down and I thank you for it :)
This is the most precious channel I have ever come randomly come across and she is an absolute peach. So glad I found this, all of her videos are absolutely so soothing and just a pleasure to watch!

i used to use it for a year then I stopped and switched to Lush but Lush is so expensive and I was thinking about going back to Ponds, but are the ingredients truly safe in it?
So excited to see this pop up in my notifications. I love these type of videos. When you walk into the kitchen, I thought how tall the door looked next to you, then realized how high the door knob is placed. 😅 Thank you!
I just came to this video after watching a scary/freaky one about the paranormal, in hopes of making me happy & forget about how scared I was 😰 lol and it worked, your energy & vibes made me feel so much better. Your whole personality is just too adorable! 😄 love your videos! 💖
I would have loved to have been a housewife in the 50's. I love your videos!!! My sister is in her 50's and still uses Oil of Olay and her skin looks amazing. I use the Pond's moisturizer. I love how the Pond's products feel on my skin. It's summer here in the States, but as soon as it starts getting cooler in the fall, roast dinners are going to be back in full swing here. Gravy is the best! Your meals look delicious! Thank you for sharing! I love your channel!!!
Cute video! Gotta take the reciever off the phone before dialing😁 Absolutely love the pool shot. Beautiful outdoor heated pool! In your wintertime no less!
I have said for years that I was born in the wrong decade. I should have been and adult housewife of the 1950’s. It is totally up my alley and my love! Seeing your videos is a breath of fresh air. I love that you dance around to the music-I do that as well and I adore music from the 50’s. I am even ordering a new 1950’s swing dress to wear to an upcoming wedding.
Dialing the phone before picking up the receiver gave me a chuckle and put a smile on my face. My mom still had our old, yellow rotary phone on her kitchen wall until the day she passed, 12 years ago.
Sage,I love a bed jacket. And I actually have my late mother's, it's way too small for me,but I've kept it as a momento of course . Its baby pink satin. I love that your husband was willing to play along, too cute. That was alot of fun seeing you out and about shopping. Great video . Thank you so much sweetie ❤💞❤👗

Absolutely love this! So pure and wholesome ❤️ Thank you for taking the time to include such details. Everyone, I'm pretty sure this lady knows how to use a phone! She probably didn't want to accidentally call someone by lifting receiver first x
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Sage, for recreating this beautiful time in history. I dream of living in the 1950s, when woman were true ladies, families were fully intact, and morals stood strong. Godbless you for honoring the wonderful women of yesteryear.❤️
Dang, you got some beautiful markets there! I haven’t seen a real butcher since I was a kid! You’re very fortunate to have stores like that to shop from! Love your videos and it brings back a lot of memories for me from the 50s!👍
I'm in LOVE with James' mustache!!! Good man 🙂 These videos are beautiful I clean everyday along side your '50s week' video it's the perfect accompaniment and inspiration. Im very envious of your grocery stores, I wish we had some in walking distance, I find I can't do fresh shopping each day here as it takes up too much of my day, but I should love to be able to. I also adore my carpet sweeper so it made me very happy to see yours. Thank you so much for making me feel as though I have a vintage neighbour. My own little 1940s bubble is very small ❤️
Wonderful video, I just love how you managed to keep all the little details on par with the 1950s as well. So beautifully done. Much love from South Africa.
My favorite episode of I love Lucy! I love your channel. I use cold cream too, my grandma taught me this. This reminds me of her, my mother also had a swim cap like that, I remember the distinctive smell of it. I was so little, but I still remember the smell. I roll my hair sometime just like this, such a classy, neat look. I’m 51 and I so appreciate your channel.
Oh how I loved this!! I think your housecoat and nightgown are simply adorable. I love that it was a leisurely day. Sometimes those are the best. James is looking very dapper in this video as well. The out takes at the end are simply the best tho. So charming and always bring out a giggle and smile in me! In a lot of ways I feel like I live the life of a 50's housewife, without the clothes. lol. I chose to stay home after my daughter was born...and she's now quite older so I don't have much of an excuse, but I love staying home and taking care of our beautiful house and so while my husband and I can afford it we're going for it. I do say I loved hearing of how my grandma spent her days when she was raising her children through the 50's, and it just inspired me to want to be like her. To me she was the most intelligent, sweet, wonderful woman around and tho she's been gone a while I miss her every day. Thank you Sage, for reminding me of an era of good ol days. :)
4:38 this makes me sigh ☺️ it's sweet how he supports the way she perpares breakfast and old fashioned ways of living, for instance simply sitting down together and having breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Noone seems to do that anymore, some teens eat in their rooms, parents eat on the couch these days. But this is lovely 😍
Awww your swimming cap is so cute. Thanks for the feedback too my question. I purchased a yellow vintage swimming cap with daises. Kisses from America.💛💛💛

I’m 57 and was sooo excited when I found some on Amazon
I bought 4 big jars incase they run out😂🇬🇧
I used to adore using Ponds Cold Cream. It made me feel so vintage. :)
I can remember mum sighing with relief when she took off her girdle, much like me whipping off my bras when I get home now 😂
Your food looks delicious and true to the times.
That said, homemaking, cooking, taking care of the babies/people I love, decorating our home, working the finances/investments, chores, all those types of things are truly what I enjoy… and when I couldn’t be solely focused on them, my heart and longed to.
I agree ..this hit the nail on the head
Exactly!! My sister works full time and has three children to take care of after work. She has no time to herself. :(
Thank you for taking the time to make such beautifully assembled, dynamic and polished videos. ❤️
You have encouraged me to start looking back at the past generations with a new degree of appreciation! Your short films are an inspiration, and I have started to cook more from scratch, implement a routine and, so far, I am loving this new season of my young adult life. You embody so much grace, dignity and joy it's infectious!
Aw that means so much, thank you! 🥰💕💫
Yay my faves!!!that pink nightgown is sooo pretty! Would love a “day in the life of a 50’s housewife” video once a month!
I agree! I can't get enough! More please!
Yes!
It’s not a joke.
i’m with you
I remember my Grandma always setting the table like this for every meal. When I stayed with them in my 20s we would prepare all our meals and set the table with linens and all the condiments. Every day we had afternoon coffee and a biscuit.
Hello dear
How are you doing today?
I truly live my life this way each and everyday, except I have two boys. There is a sense of freedom when you live this way and not have social media. I have no regrets. Love all your video's you post!
It’s truly a blessing that you can afford not to work
That's excellent! I love there are people like you, and we need more. We're all turning into zombies (says the girl staring at YT.... Better get going😂)✌
You saw this on RUclips?

Edit: James dresses like my dad, and shares his name lol.
I started using Cold Cream because of you, and it’s been amazing for my skin! No one in my family that I’ve known used it when I was growing up, and it’s honestly the first cleanser I’ve used that didn’t make my skin red.
She did not need to go the extra mile with the authentic decor and background music but she did and that is why I love her so much ✨

Aww Sage you are adorable. My husband and I had to laugh when you dialed the phone without first picking up the receiver that made our day. lol
LOL me too!
I've also noticed that!! My parents still have one of those in the backyard kitchen, serves as an extension.
Same here! ♡
Lol. She would not have got through to anyone but the dialling tone lol. X
Exactly. Being a 70s baby, I was chuckling. You’re not calling ANYONE without first picking up the receiver. 😂
(We did this before EBay, too.)
Thank you, Sage. I'm enjoying your videos and your sunny personality so much!
I never met my great grandmother, these videos make me feel like I'm getting a glimpse into what life may have been like for her.
Awww 🥰. I met mine. She died when I was 12. She was born in 1898. I heard a lot of stories about Indians, amd her one room schoolhouse.
Very comforting and love the clothes, I love anything back in the days or vintage, just love it!!!!
This video was so cozy and wholesome. I tell my husband all the time I wish we lived in the 50s 🥰
I thought I was the only woman that danced while doing dishes! Yay!!!
Am I the only one who expected Sage to do fortnite dances
Everything about you, your life is so comforting, beautiful and warm! Thank you so much for sharing it Sage. ❤️❤️❤️
I am 68 years old and this reminds me of my mother so much, it brings back great memories…

So many comments banging on about the phone mistake - does no one else read others' comments before posting? I thought your video was wonderful, Sage. Enjoyed every minute 🤗
Not all of them. There are too many.
This is a wonderful video to show the real side of a 50’s housewife. Thank you for this. And please keep them coming I love it
I just love this video. And love that old rotary phone. The last time I had one was when I was a teenager in the 1980s.
I love the old phone. Did you notice she dialed it before picking up the receiver? 😄
I was so excited to see a rotary telephone that I didn’t notice that Sage dialed the phone, then picked up the receiver. I watched that part again.
@@karin0963 yes! I was just about to comment - "learn how to use a rotary phone!" - that's ok. my kids don't know either.
Lol
I don’t understand people who give thumbs down to light hearted and fun entertainment like this.

I remember them black phones had to take handle off before you dialed.
I just asked my mom who was born in 1959, cuz I was like I don't think that's right!
I was gonna say lol
I was born in the 70’s and we had a roll a dial phone and I remember that you have to pick up the phone before dialling 🙂
Yes. At least here in the United States you have to pick up the phone receiver before you dial on a rotary phone. Could be different in Australia.
90s kid u had to pick up the phone then dial
Dialing the phone before picking up the receiver gave me a chuckle and put a smile on my face. My mom still had our old, yellow rotary phone on her kitchen wall until the day she passed, 12 years ago.

I don't know if it's different in Australia but where I'm from, we used to have to pick up the receiver before dialing the phone number
I grew up in the 50s in the USA and we had to pick the receiver up before dialing the number. Those phones lasted Forever! 😊
In Australia here we also had to pick up the hand piece first before dialing.
Pretty sure she did it that way so she could show the phone dialing without actually phoning anyone lol.
Could also be a remake of an old phone, not an original. So it may not operate 💯 like the original
Maybe Sage never had a landline phone.
