Good for you! I bet you look classy because the clothes back then lasted, not like today and I LOVE how the men and women looked. We are WAYYyyyyy too casual now. Boring.
I’ve been dressing and decorating pre 1950s since the early 70s! Back in the day when every thing was made to last and fashion was actually ELEGANT!!! People used to make fun of my clothing in the late 60s , early 70s because I dressed head to toe 1910-1950! I no longer dress head to toe, but almost always have a piece of those days somewhere on my body! Love it!
I dont understand how someone can dress head to toe 1910-1950. Just 1915 to 1925 are so wildly different in the way people dressed, 1955 is pretty much indistinguishable. Did you dress like a Gibson girl on monday, a flapper on tuesday, a hollywood starlet on wedenesday, a rosie the riveter type on thursday and a teenybopper on friday? Or did you wear a mishmash of everything you found that happened to look pre-1960? Like just the skirt lengths vary immensely, not to mention cuts, shape fitting, hats, shoes. I just bugs me when people have no historical context and classify anything that isnt modern or instantly recognizable under the term vintage and lump it all together and then name five decades like they were all the same (or even similar!). I know its probably not the cae with you being alive in the 70s but most young people couldnt tell you the difference from WWI to WWII, or when they happened or how people used to dress when they did.
My wife is the same. She started shopping the thrifts back in the early '70s, when you could get vintage clothing super cheap (cashmere sweaters for $5). Though she never dressed head-to-toe in her finds, she kind of became known for her unusual manner of accessorizing jeans & tees with '20s jewelry and '40s purses. Also, though I never got into vintage as much as she, she's gifted me with some cool things like '40s ties and a turn-of-the-20th century men's velvet scarf. Oh, and we live in an old house, full of antiques
She would like my moms house too my mom loves 50’s style homes and she found one that was all original and never redone and the house was built in 1957
