I am 73 years old and I was a little girl in the 1950’s. My dad was a Marine and he served in both WWII and Korea. You are so beautiful and glamorous. You remind me more of the women I saw on T.V and not my mother and her friends. We lived in a big city in the US. We didn’t think anything we had was cool. It makes me chuckle now how everything old is new again. I love your channel you are so sweet. Keep up your studies
I'm sure you have some amazing stories to tell. ❤
Thank you for sharing this wonderful past time maybe stress was not like it is now
Hey, Marsha!!! You"re so cute!!!!😊😍😘Tell us some stories, from when you where young....!!!😀
So lovely. I wish I could visit the 50s if time travel was possible.
Exactly ! beautiful video ! But looks more like rich people in the 1950's
Could you maybe do a 1950s Christmas. How they would have decorated, holiday meal, types of gifts that would have been given.
I would love to see that!:)
Oh yess please 🥰
Yes ! please do another Christmas video please. :)
Oh, yes another please
Yes!! I would love to see this!
very cool that your grandfather wrote his memoirs for his family to enjoy. what a treasure to have!
I know I am so grateful to have this! 💕
You are so fortunate to have your Grandpa's memoirs!
I am the family historian of a very large family (250+ cousins) and, while I have some historical records for the family, I really wish I had more memoirs of my Grandpa's and my Mom's generations. They would make my family history ebook so much more interesting. There are still a few cousins in my Mom's generation who are still with us and their children are trying to get them to write their memoirs to contribute.
@Opal Allen Having memoirs of each cousin in each generation is a future goal. We currently have five generations of cousins so that will take awhile. We are losing our older generation (my Mom's generation) quickly so my current urgent goal is to record their memoirs. When I started doing this in 2009, we had 15 cousins in that generation and now we only have 8. I am disabled and have difficulty traveling and covid has pretty much put a stop to that anyway (my youngest cousin in my Mom's generation is will be 75 soon; the oldest just turned 97, so their risk level is very high). If I was able to travel and do so safely, I would pack my bags and go in a heartbeat to interview and record their memoirs. They, for some reason are reluctant to do this 🤔 but, if I show up at their door, I'm confident they will do it. I say this because they are all thrilled that I've reunited all the branches of the family (we were estranged by distance and time for 40 or 45 years) and are loving getting to know the youngest members of our family and that they are all interested in learning our family heritage.
Sorry for the long comment 🤭. I could go on for hours about genealogy, family history and so on 😉.
@Opal Allen You need to do it in print because your grandkids won’t have the hardware to download your software memoirs!
I’m not sure how this ended up on my suggested videos but I’m so glad it did! So delightful and inspiring!
Same here... lol
New to channel
I love Roots et Refuge also
Oh, hey Jess!
My two worlds are colliding with this comment 😍
Same haha. Must be all the homesteading videos I've been enjoying!
I love these videos and could watch them all day. We were just looking at old pics of my dads side of the family, and I'm just so proud to see how my family took care of their appearance even when they didn't have much. Glad some of that rub off on me.
Love 1950’s aesthetics my mother in law was a teenager during that era and she always talks about how good and simple life was for her back then. She used to make her own dresses and to this day she is lucky to be a full time housewife😀
Wow.... this is exactly me. Nothing has changed in my house. Only difference is I have children. I don't use much technology and I literally almost never sit down. I do everything by hand including sewing and other things like that. I always cook home made meals and serve my family just like this. I didn't realize that it wasn't very normal anymore.
Everyone’s addicted to their phones unfortunately and people wonder why they have so much anxiety.
good for you. thats the best thing you can do for your family. awesome
Well when you have a full-time job...
Yep work hours not same anymore and women and men both work aswell . Not everyone lucky stay at home .I work stupid hours in social care 12-16 hours even 24 ha
It’s not . I’m always shamed for being a stay at home mom
Im slowly adopting many lifestyle changes to fit in with a 40s esthetics. I find our grandparents where on to something that we have abandoned in our modern society.
I love your channel and it inspires me to be a little more like my grandfather.
I still enjoy coming back to this video very uplifting thank you
Sage, I was studying medicine for a while, with some nurse friends, so I know how challenging it can be. It's very admirable for you to study such a hard carrier and still being so calm and soothing
What's my line? is a terrific timepiece. The first one I ever saw was one from 1958. I was struck at the way people spoke to each other and how much different it seems from the way people communicate today. Also, it's so beautiful where you live, half a world away from here.
I enjoy watching “What’s My Line?”
I have watched What’s My Line for going on 10 years (I’m 24). Since buying our home a year ago and living a vintage lifestyle here, I have also got my man on it as well! We are huge fans, glad you love it also!
What a rare gift to be able to read about your grandfather’s story!
I like how you treat the chickens like pets, giving them attention and being gentle with them.
I adored this episode! It reminds me so much of how my mother managed our home in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Thank you so, so much!
Fun fact, I was actually eating baked beans with a side of coffee and toast while watching this video. The baked beans were something I bought by accident, so the fact that I had heated them up for my dinner tonight even before starting to watch this video was a TOTAL coincidence. Lol
That's so cool
Loved this, absolutely loved this! Oh, for the halycion days of happiness!
Your husband gets into it also -- you're both so cute!!! His slicked hair and tidy moustache, with the 1950s vibe shirt make you the perfect 50s couple.
Thank you for making and posting these inspiring vids.
I LOVE What’s My Line. People had real wit back then. Love love love your day in the life videos!!!!
My mother STILL uses my grandmother's old vacuum from the sixties. That dinosaur is SO LOUD that both me and the dog both run out of the house when she hauls it out! She won't let me replace it and she won't let me vacuum for her; she says it's the only exercise she gets nowadays. The thing weighs a ton but if it actually keeps my 74 year old mother healthy, happy and active I can't really take it away from her. The thing sounds like a freight train, or how I assume a mastodon would sound. When she passes (hopefully not for a long, long time) I'll ship it to you, assuming I can afford the overweight charges. Just love your channel!
Loud sounds, indeed, but they were made to last. Different today, isn't it. Yay to your Mom for persevering!
I was born in 1980 and I remember those from my childhood. They were LOUD for sure 😆.
@@beckybanta126 LOL don't worry, I've got tons of stuff from my great gran, grandma and mom to preserve. I still use my great grandmother's china every day and four generations of women have sat at the vanity in my bedroom. The vacuum however, someone else can enjoy. :-) And you're absolutely right - yay to my mom for preserving!
@@raraavis7782 One of the reasons hard surface floors are always at the top of my lists when apt hunting - that and the doggo of course
My parents had a 1930s kirby from my grandma that they kept repairing for years. I would swear all the way up the stairs every time my mom asked me to bring it to her lol.
This was marvelous. How I would love to have a house, yard and my own washing machine! I'm 51, it's long overdue but these simple things are now sadly inaccessible for many.
What I love is seeing someone of your generation so into the 40s and 50s. I'm Gen X, and we were so fascinated with the 50s, hence an explosion of 50s themed diners in the US back then. My prom dress, bought in 1988, was $30 and was a used, 1950s blue velvet and tulle strapless ball gown! It was stunning. Wore it with long, white opera gloves and pearls. As an 80s gal who grew up mostly with my grandma, a 1950s housewife through and through, I share your love of all things vintage. In many ways, life was just simpler and better then. Thank you for the care and effort you put into these!
I love this style of videos! For the first time ever I get to focus on being a wife and a mother!!! These are helpful in assisting me to establish my eb and flow!!! We close on our first home 12.3.2021 💜♾💎 Much love and many blessings
I was born in 1955 in the middle of the U.S. and this video reminded me SO MUCH of my beautiful Mom! Thank you! Great content! I loved seeing the book of memoirs. I wish I had something like that. I sent the video to my daughters so they could get a glimpse of how their Nana did things in the 50s.
She is so lovely and fun to watch. A true lady!
What a great era, almost felt like I came home again.
Very nice! The amount of work put into this is obvious and appreciated! Simply lovely, thank you, Sage🌷
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like it! Xx 💕
My mother was born in 1955... So this is a little glimpse of how my Grandma lived as a young wife....
So... "As it was something my great-grandmother used in the 1950's"
My great-grandmother was alive in the 1800's. My dad was born in the 1950's. I suddenly feel so old.
Same.
Me too. However, I remember the women back then gave 110% to their families. Today it's the work place that gets 110%, families get what's left over.
I’m a SAHM and I homeschool my son. I cook three meals a day every day plus snacks and I spend my days cooking cleaning schooling shopping planning pet care and preparing. In my down time I love to listen to music and read and work out. It’s a lifestyle and I left a 20+ year career in nursing to stay home and manage the house. It’s hard work but if you’re organized it runs quite smoothly. Love your channel!
Enjoy Heaven ! ❤ Your husband must be so glad to come home to his feminine wife
@@valeriasanchezpchA person can be a tomboy and do all that stuff. 😂
What a gorgeous intro! Sage you are so beautifully calming. You make what I would consider hectic and busy so peaceful and serene.
Play repeat play while we are heading into the dead of winter.
What a beautiful video ❤️🌈❤️
Aw thank you so so much Mala! ❤️😘
@@SageLilleyman ❤️🌹❤️ Have a wonderful week ahead ❤️🌹❤️
This is such a wholesome and feel good video 🥺💕 such a contrast to the glam materialistic influencer crap you see all over social media and RUclips these days
Well said and all true.😊💐
The quality of your videos improves more and more each time I watch you, thank you for all you do to make these! ❤️
Your energy and delivery brings light and joy, but now seems especially timely as others in the Northern Hemisphere have noted.
That means so much, thank you! 💕☺️
This is a pretty cool channel. Just came across it the other day & it's rather interesting. You are either reminding me of how things used too be or teaching me something new (old), not sure what word to use there. Look forward to catching up to where you are today, as in videos. I can see you've been at this for awhile. I think all especially the young needs this channel to come up in their algorithms. I do hope, not sure if the 2 of you have moved yet, has kept up with this classic lifestyle of yesteryear.
Lovely video Sage. You really should be doing one attending a Sunday Church service. All the sweet old ladies in those days did so. That will be awesome. Plus it'll be a double blessing for you and James.
All the sweet old ladies these days do too haha! Show up to church as a young person and all the grannies will fawn over you and tell you how pretty you are and feed you cookies!
I love that you guys have your own garden and chickens. I really want to raise my own chickens, too, but we live in the city of Minneapolis, where the winters drop down to the negatives. I'd love to see the upkeep of your garden and chickens especially in the winter.
Your skin is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT 😊 not a blemish in sight 😃
You're quite blessed to possess such beauty!! ♥️
Another lovely video that sweeps away the stress of modern day life. Thanks Sage(and James) for all you do to bring a ray of Aussie sunshine into our lives. 🥰❤️
Greetings from the US! It's always so wild to think you all are in Spring and we are heading closer to Winter. I was wondering about your victory garden the other day. We do a garden most years but the deer got most of ours this year. We did get some tomatoes and potatoes. Can't complain too much. Anyways, have a wonderful Holiday Season!
Agreed when she said Spring I was thinking of April here in the US.
It really is crazy! We just got our first snow of the season a couple nights ago, and I'm sitting here all bundled up trying to stay warm wishing it was spring here!
I’m Australian also, but its freezing at the moment! Summer will be boiling soon enough. I have always wanted to see snow 😂
So November and December are spring there? That's so crazy
Greetings from a fellow fall and winter country 😊Germany
I'm supposed to be doing morning prayers, but stated watching this, in which I love. She is so precious. Forgive me Lord. 🙏
Ahh i’m so happy. Yesterday i randomly came across your videos. And now i’m obsessed with these
My great auntie was born in 1922 and i showed her one of your videos and she loved it, she said it was very authentic to the 50's!!
Aww I’m so flattered she approved of the video!! ☺️
How wonderful to have your Grandfather's autobiography! Seeing Mable and Maude always bring a smile to my face!
USA here too!!! I love watching you and your hubby!!! I’ve always said that I was born in the wrong time!!! I love the 50’s style of clothing. I just love to watch people from other countries on what they wear or even what they eat, like beans we eat those for dinner. Even here in the States each state has their own way of eating. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us!!!
I always say the same I was born in the wrong era!!
Love from the uk
What an amazing and really balanced blend of genuine hard work and self care woven into the lives of women then
ITS LIKE A STORY!!!! THE WAY IT ALL COMES TOGETHER OMG
Took me WAAAAAYYYY to long to remember that Australias seasons are opposite ours here in the USA.
I already have snow here.
I am 68 and I have a garden I use every day. I’ve been having a garden for the last five years. Everything from the grocery store is replanted in that garden, onions, carrots, garlic, lettuce I also use seeds and grow from seeds, the salads and the vegetables taste 100% better.
Oh what a lovely suprise in my subscription feed! I was having a yucky day so this totally brightened it and made me smile! 💜
My dad bought an Electrolux vacuum in the 90s & is still using it in 2024. That brand has been around since the 1920s. Pricey but worth it.
Love this video! My Grandma used to take her bath in the evening (the rest of us are shower people, I'm afraid!) Gran used to toss some laundry powder into the bath before she pulled the plug. Gave it a couple of stirs and swore she never had to scrub the bath! your garden and the hens look fab!
I recently inherited my nana’s 1950s bristle brush, and I totally agree with how it makes the hair look. My hair always feels softer after I use it and I doubt I will return to using a modern hairbrush.
Times seemed so innocent and simple in those days. Looks like it could of been fun. My dad would of been just 8 years old back in 1950 he is 80 now Xx
12:50 One of the few useful cooking tips I learned from those 5 minute craft videos is that you can bulk trim the green beans simply by moving all of them to one side of the packet they came in and chop the entire end off (repeat on other side). You lose a bit more bean than trimming them individually but chicken absolurely looove green bean tips so you can use it as feed (or compost, of course).

I like the way you creat your videos . It's so soothing, peaceful and relaxing . I feel less stressed in that 18 minutes . Thank you so much .
We appreciate the amount of work you put in these videos, Sage! Well done!❤❤
Thank you so much!! 😊💕
Sage, your videos are beyond lovely and always put a smile on my face! I can't imagine how much work goes into it all! I love the positive vibes in your videos, it always feels like spending a little time catching up with a friend💗
The more posts I watch, the more reminiscent I feel. Weird? It's oddly like you're channeling my past life. So blessed to be able to read your grandpa's words. Unfortunately, lost both grandpas before I was born and a great-uncle in his early 20s as a US paratrooper in France. Even so, there is so much available now to help us appreciate their day-to-day life experience. Appreciate you and James for conjuring arguably the world's greatest generation into our IRL. I can already see you are going to be a gem in nursing. A career my own paternal grandmother only aspired to given circumstances of time and fate in the 1950s.
Sage You are reminding me of how my mom raised my brother and I in the 60's with the structure of a 50's household. Oh I saw you have foxglove in the garden, just make sure you don't have any edibles near it as it is what digitalis (heart medication) is made from and can really make things uncomfortable if ingested not under Dr. care.
I loved this! How inspiring how you are living your lives. I got a tear in my eye when you read your grandfathers memoir.
I too think that it is cool and interesting that you in Australia are going into spring when my neck of the Midwest in the United States is freezing cold today!! I’m loving your channel. My grandpa journaled and kept photograph books of his time during WW2 in the army, so I grew up hearing a lot about what it was like especially in the 30’s and 40’s. Also I am a big Judy Garland fan and a fan of other stars during that time, and you remind me of some of them. Keep up the good work on your channel!
And it was super hot in Southern California today. 95 degrees! We’re having a heat wave.
@@ashleylewis2783 In Michigan we had snow today😵
That is so neat that you have your grandfathers journals what a treasure
@@ashleylewis2783did you have the Santa Ana winds? I remember those winds and how hat it got whew!

How absolutely lovely! You are an inspiration :). I'm really glad that you have your grandpa's stories. What a wonderful thing to have.
Aww…I home sick with Covid and I have never been so happy to see this notification! Enjoyed it so much!
Yes!! Love that vinegar and water method for washing floors and love some of my clothes a little bit damp before ironing them so they stay crisp and pouring hot water down the drain to keep the pipes clean 👌
My husband and I love to grow a garden! He's got more of a green thumb than I do but after 6 years I've been improving every year and actually enjoy it and don't see it as the total hassle I used to 😊 it's almost winter here and recently had our first snow, I finally harvested the last of our beets and a TON of carrots and made the best borscht 👌 so delicious
You are reminding me to back down to Canterbury gardens for a picnic. Used to always sneak out of school to go there. There are so many gorgeous gardens around here. What a gorgeous place to go for a walk.
welcome everyone back to the 1950s!
Great video as always. It reminded of a Norman Rockwell picture when you were standing by the mirror.
I literally stopped what i was doing to watch this 😍👏👏💖✌
And what do you know... i made bacon today too😁 thanks again for these fun videos .. they remind me of my day to day now minusa few things 🤭😏
I really enjoyed your video and seeing your beautiful children. You dressed the part, you had the make up on, you cleaned your house and followed the routine. The meals were a hit as you said. You did really well. I’m going to keep on watching to see what you’re up to next.
Another lovely video. Your videos truly are the highlight of my Saturdays. Your content is always fun, soothing, and interesting. Thank you so much for providing a wonderful respite from the world, Sage. ❤
Your comforter is beautiful! I can’t help but love your styles and the items you doll your house up with. ❤️

Omg I must be psychic! Yesterday I literally posted a comment on your morning routine saying I wish you’d do seasonal versions of routines so we could enjoy the content all over again! 😂 🔮

Sage, I cannot thank you enough for your wonderful videos. I fell in love with the 1950s only a year ago, and you are my absolute reference regarding 1950s lifestyle! You inspire me so much, and as I try to live my life as a 1950s (single) housewife and mom, I find my life so much more enjoyable and interesting! I also love to watch one of your videos after dinner to unwind before I do the dishes and prepare for bed. Keep up all your great work! I'm a huge fan 😊 Sending love from France!
Ive been waiting for a new video like this one. I love watching your videos ❤️
You are so lovely! I enjoy every single one of your videos!
haha i was so confused when I saw that it was a spring video, it took me a second to remember that Australia has the opposite seasons to my country
I am deep in the heart of Texas and normally I would make a sweet potato pie. But instead, this past Friday for my job's unit meeting I made the pumpkin pie recipe you used and took it along with my buttermilk pie to work. They love it😍. I then went home after a long day and finished it off with hot chocolate in my dark green vintage darling mug. It was definitely a great day! Thanks for what you do to make our days a little better 🤗
I do the same thing in the morning, and I absolutely think it is essential to just air and sun out the house. Also, what is it about fresh fruit that is just so good at makes you smile?
This is my new favorite channel. Thanks for keeping the good times alive!
I just love your videos Sage!🥺☺️
I love vintage stuff it’s so nice to have you share your experiences with us! 😊😊😊
Thank you so much for this lovely video. You inspired me to clean my house good too. Bless you. I use your videos for exercise motivation after my heart attack in January. Plus I'm looking into vintage looks myself. Please continue these beautiful videos. Say hello to Maud and Mapel. God bless. ❤
This is a random thing for me to notice but I felt nostalgic about how crazy high your doorknobs are😂 when we lived in Melbourne we had a very old brick house with the same doors. All our doors used skeleton keys too. It was cute.
Very cute. You put a lot of thought into your videos. A Great Aunt decided to write her memoirs about her side of family. There was quite a stir over it all. My grandmother said, if she publishes it, I'll sue! She ended up dying before much ever happened and the manuscript ended up falling into my hands. The most snooze producing story I ever read. ;)
1950's white middle class housewife!!! Absolutely love the robe!
the fact that i screamed in silence seeing this video on my youtube home page (its 3 am) 😂 thank you thank you thank youuuu. cant wait to watch it ✨❤️✨
I really enjoy your day in the life videos. This one was especially fun! Glad for the update on your victory garden, I've been wondering after I watched you plant it. And updates on Mabel & Maude are always great. Thanks, Sage!
I am loving these types of videos, Sage! They are so refreshing and inspiring
I'm so excited that I found your videos. I love the 40s and 50s. I don't have any clothing yet because I don't know how to sew, and I'm overweight.
I am learning to sew too, after a traumatic experience in Home Ec. class. I too am overweight and it is so frustrating to see cute clothes and realize they aren't large enough.
Your videos are always so calming and inspiring! I was wondering, was it common for a 1950’s housewife to change from ‘chores clothes’ into evening wear every day?
We lived in Chicago and my mom only wore her "good" clothes for occasions like weddings and funerals. Her daily clothes were worn all day.
Oh my gosh! I have watched dozens of episodes of that game show. So much fun!
I hate being called a “housewife!” I’m not married to a house. I’m a Homemaker and proud of what I’ve accomplished. Great but hard profession. Takes patience because it’s pretty much a 24/7 job. But so satisfying if you do your job.🙏
My dream is this job... I know is not easy, but still, I'm impressed by woman who chose this job!
I'm very judged by society for wanting this, but I don't care
