...Update: On April 16, Latry posted the following on Facebook: "Despite all the damage in the Cathedral, the organ miraculously escaped the flames, as well as the water supposed to extinguish them.
It is very dusty, but will continue to enjoy us as soon as the building will be restored. When? No one knows yet. 'Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.' (John, 2). It will surely take more time in Notre-Dame, but I still live with great confidence and hope."
Latry...has been the titular organist of Notre-Dame de Paris for 33 years...

This organ posseses the most extraordinary sound i have ever heard from any musical instrument, period.
We heard him play this piece at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the BBC Proms, I think he used all the 147 stops and 9,997 pipes and even used the 64ft

@@X2O8MZV9 it wasn't destroyed, but it has to be restored due to the heat, the smoke, and the lead dust that penetrated all the pipes. For their massive size, pipe organs are very delicate and sensitive instruments.

Aujourd'hui, 16 Avril 2019, La cathédrale a beaucoup souffert et cette musique ne résonnera plus jamais de la même façon...s'il reste un peu de "souffle" à cet instrument?A cette heure il est encore trop tôt pour le dire...Triste, triste.

Suis camerounais mais je ne peux m'empêcher d'admirer avec quelle maestra le grand Latry interprète cette tocata . le décor, le monumental instrument, les sonorités des tuyaux, le fantastique jeu au pédalier....bref la perfection à son zénith.Le grand orgue de notre dame demeurera éternel dans nos coeurs.

Cela ne m'offusque pas; je comprends tout simplement que nous ne sommes pas dans le même régistre . Moi j'ai fait de la musique classique dans ma jeunesse.

@@ghx783 Almost.... It has been 2000°C inside the cathedrale. Organ tubes don't really like heat. It didn't burn but it got VERY hot and will need a lot of work to work again.
@@nonothebot the fire was at the other end of the buildong, and with an open roof, i dont think much heat got the organ

Dominique marchesi l’orgue fait un très beau son, mais l’interprétation est à mon goût mauvaise, le choix des voix de l’orgue n’est pas cohérent avec la pièce, il y a quelques fautes (notamment lors de la toccata) et la fugue est trop peu tonique....

C’est tout simplement car ce n’est pas la version originale de Bach, mais une réécriture de l’œuvre par Franz Liszt... Donc ce que vous entendez ne sont pas des erreurs, ou un manque de tonicité, il s’agit juste de petites cadences rajoutés par Liszt.
From the first time I heard this fugue by Back played at Midnight Mass at Notre Dame in 1976 I know that no other organ rivals this magnificent one with an invisible spirit - resounding through the great halls of the cathedral and filling the parishioners and guests with a sense of the Almighty and Divine. I am always in awe of its mighty wind. Olivier Latry is a master organist.
In a thousand years I could never have your skills. You are incredible. God put you here to do what you are doing. Thank you so much for your hard work.

Not sure of your definition of soon. Last I heard the estimated date of completion for the restoration was between 2068 and 2118.

Rajesh Mohanty, It’s unbelievable and a miracle that the Notre Dame main organ is currently unplayable by dust and soot, but it has not been hit by a drop of fire-extinguishing water and that nothing has melted or burned 🙏

This is the craziest and most interesting version of BWV 565 I have heard on any pipe organ anywhere! Well done Olivier! I am *SO* sorry to hear of the fire at the Notre Dame, but I heard this afternoon that the organ survived with minimal damage, which is very important, as there are parts of the organ that date back several hundred years! The cathedral can and will be rebuilt, but if the organ had been a total loss, it would have been gone forever. Much love to the native people of France, and may the rebuilding of this national treasure (both the cathedral and the organ) be speedy and accurate to the original design. 💖👍
Try this version on for size... Latry on an organ in Brooklyn, not at all like N-D's mighty Cavaille-Coll. This arrangement is a little quirky, a little funky, and great. And he's so much fun to watch on this!

cela reste une oeuvre très technique, mais pas si compliquée. c'est pour moi une des plus belles après la dorienne.
Pour une bonne interprétation et en accord avec son instrument, selon moi un musicien ne doit pas avoir de partitions
Quand on travaille un morceau, on finit inévitablement par le savoir par coeur ;)

Une grande disparition de notre patrimoine culturelle qu'est l'incendie de cette cathédrale. Je suis bouleversé d'apprendre ceci, et cette interprétation obtient alors une puissance inégalée dorénavant.
L'orgue n'a pas disparu, il a été épargné par l'incendie, il est intact.
@@popovbozzo6398 Un instrument de musique, par définition, ne supporte pas les (brusques) changements de température. Alors dire qu'il est "intact" c'est s'avancer un peu vite, à mon avis. En l'état, à part Didier Super, personne n'osera jouer dessus.
I'm french. I don't live in Paris, I went in the cathedral once but the loss of Nôtre-Dame hurts so much... This organ, played this way, in these times...
850 years of history and architectural masterpieces burned in few hours. I'm still chocked, sad and deeply hurt.
Vincent Charvet actually most of the interior is completely intact, including the organ, rose windows, and more. The organ is only covers in a layer of soot and with just need a little bit of cleaning

@caietanus salve Non heureusement il a été épargné, mais il a sûrement dû souffrir un peu. J'ai entière confiance en nos spécialistes pour le mettre à l'abri et le restaurer, comme ils l'ont fait magnifiquement il y a quelques années
J'espère être là le jour où la cathédrale sera reconsacrée et l'orgue jouera le Te Deum de Cochereau !

Entendre l'orgue tonitruant c'est une chose, mais ce qui m'émeut le plus ce sont les jeux de fond qu'on entend au début de la fugue(3:06), ensuite les principaux mises en avant, joués seul, rien de plus pure et d'excellent pour les oreilles(3:13 puis 3:35), pas de doute l'orgue est bien le Roi des instruments...
Vivement que l'orgue de Notre Dame de Paris retrouve son souffle de vie...
Je ne suis pas du tout un spécialiste mais cet instrument me passionne au plus haut point...

En écoutant ça on comprend pourquoi il y avait une liste d'attente de deux ans et demi pour jouer dessus...
La mise en scène est sublime: le son est magique, les lumières subliment le tout, et l'ORGANISTE !!! J'aurais aimé être présent !!
Bravo à vous monsieur Latry, vous nous offrez un panel exceptionnel des possibilités incroyables de ce merveilleux orgue. Dans cette œuvre magnifique de notre Jean-Sébastien Bach, votre technique et votre maîtrise des jeux, font ressortir à la perfection le sujet, le contre sujet, le thème et le contre thème. Dans un tempo qui me parait être très réaliste, on comprend chaque mesure, les combinaisons bien exploitées, rendant les trilles superbes, le passage des sixtes comme des perles, la fugue qui coule comme un torrent....et l'art du contre-point bien sûr. Bref, vous l'avez compris, vous m'avez conquis. Je vous l'assure, le Maestro de là haut doit être fier d'entendre enfin son œuvre jouée admirablement. Continuez à nous faire rêver Monsieur Latry, cher Maître. J'ai l'entière conviction, que ce bel orgue saura faire renaître cette cathédrale une fois réparée! une pensée aussi à l'orgue de chœur . Oh my God!!!! After the fire at Notre Dame de Paris in April, I was traumatized....I made slideshows, collages and everything. My brother(who's the presiding priest at the Greek Orthodox church in Madison, WI) both just fell in love with you!!!! Unfortunately, my brother had a very quick and painless brain aneurysm and died on Friday....but I have to send you my eternal thanks!
You helped both of us get through a very trying time....and even though my heart is FROZEN, I still find so much comfort in your talent.

The ethereal lighting effects beautifully make this video seem like a ghostly apparition. It will haunt the viewer as a seeming omen of the tragedy that would befall the cathedral and the musical instrument itself.

The reason I love classics - that's the only thing which can make me 24 y.o. guy cry. I've been losing relatives, going through some tough times as we all did, but never cried. Only classical music gives me emotions I can't even understand. On 1:27 i started crying. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I sit and cry, is more of song putting me in sort of a flow and tears come out of my eyes.
