I never know what to say about this guy because his talent is so far beyond my limits appreciation but I enjoy every video of his and hope he gets his beloved Nortre Dame Cathedral and it's Organ back soon.
Fantastic organist, had the great pleasure of seeing him in concert at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral a few years ago, he played the entire programme without a single sheet of music in front of him, pure genius.
L'interprétation est très proche de celle d'un orchestre symphonique, c'est ce qui est remarquable, il sait utiliser parfaitement toutes les ressources de l'instrument. J'ai entendu de nombreuses oeuvres symphoniques jouées à l'orgue, à un moment c'est plus du bruit qu'une réelle interprétation.
Le meilleur organiste de notre temps. Bravo Olivier. Nous nous sommes rencontrés furtivement à la cathédrale de Meaux en compagnie de Domenico. Le concert fut fabuleux alors que l'orgue n'était pas au top...Un grand bravo. You'r the best.
There is a marvelous Blu-ray video of Olivier Latry playing this piece on the restored organ of St. John the Divine in New York City. (Pro Organo BD 7250) I liked the idea of the chamber being lit so you could see when the swell shades were opening and closing. What would really be neat would be to attach LEDs of different hues to the pipes that would turn on when the pipe spoke. Can you imagine the light show!

This makes me wonder: was this magnificent organ made for Danse Macabre or was Danse Macabre written for this organ? Either way, this performance was out of this world!
@Elijah Harris you're right and most of them do, but one among 500 is enough to ruin it for all 500 including himself and musicians... I don't know if that's arrogance or ignorance, usually people are reminded to turn off their gadgets before the beginning of any concert, at least in my area
the full inauguration was amazing by three amazing organists and now it's been removed?? why?? it was superb- i've tried everywhere online and only find 1-2 videos of latry - the whole wayne marshall widor etc was out of this world - im utterly annoyed and disappointed

It's just a regular pipe organ, at 2:30 you can see the swell shutters with behind it the pipes. Maybe the channel name of where this video was uploaded on gave the false impression that it would be a Hauptwerk organ.

Faut admettre que la plupart des orgues se prêtent merveilleusement à l'acoustique d'une église (en même temps... ils ont été construits pour ça). Et en France les églises sont gratuites d'accès pour l'instant, alors enjoy :D (certes ça ne présente pas le confort d'une salle de concert m'enfin, pour un bon orgue baroque allemand ou français, ou un cavaillé coll peut importe, ça s'y prête plus que bien, que ce soit au niveau des températures ou de l'acoustique).

Yeah there are quite a few consoles that are similar to his. But each are different. I'm not entirely a fan of his organ. Mainly because nothing ever will truly replace the feel, and richness of true flue pipes & reed pipes

@@Engineer9736 Mea culpa. I have seen (great) and heard (not so great) C Carpenter playing. The speaker setup he had was idiotic, for show not sound quality. Two large studio monitors would have worked better.

I'm _really_ not a fan of the styling of the organ, but the organ sounds good, and I'd play an instrument that looks like a pile of dog shit if it sounded good (and I was actually capable of playing the instrument). There are some very interesting sounds in there I don't think I've ever heard from an organ. And Latry is a wonderful player.
Some of the stops on this thing sound suspiciously like a Wurlitzer theatre organ. Not Rieger’s best work. As to the console itself, Dr Who eat your heart out.

I think the console was made to fit in with the rest of the hall. You can't really see a lot of the hall in the video, but it looks pretty trekkian as well.
