RuPaul is definitely an icon. I remember when I first saw him on MTV in the 90's and was in awe. As a gay boy it was a watershed moment, when I realized that it was ok to be gay. I would see him on stage and see the fans that were tolerant and accepting, and I knew no matter what, there is always a place for everyone in this world. Despite what homophobes say.
Justin Hopkins i felt the same way the first time i saw David Bowie in the early seventies (although he only technically described himself as bisexual). i remember thinking at the time "i'm not the only one who's different" and as for Ru Paul i think he's an amazing gay, drag or trans role model

So yearrrrs ago, early 2000s...one of my friends worked at MTV... she said she knew Rupaul and he was having some little get together at his house... We went to RUPAUL's HOUSE :) :) :) I was expecting him in complete drag as I'd always seen him but he opened the door looking like how he looks on Wendy's show. I'd never seen him not in drag. His house was in the Hollywood Hills... It was nice, pics of celebs all around his home...I remember the pic of him and the Cat Lady...she looked horrible, he, per usual, was GlamMother Honey... LOL... the house was somewhat small... wasn't really large like you'd expect... He was very nice and it was awesome being there and meeting him.
