  • Look. I like mapmaking. So I made maps for Kraken Week!
    But... what is Kraken Week? TTRPG creators all over RUclips will be posting videos around the theme "Underwater/Ocean,” inspired by Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week.” Our goal is to build community, encourage collaboration, and help boost visibility for everyone’s channels! So stay tuned for our part in the Kraken Week celebrations! The videos will be making waves July 1st- July 7th, 2024!
    You can get the maps here: cantripsmedia.com/products/un...

    // ABOUT CANTRIPS MEDIA
    Cantrips Media creates handmade notebooks, journals, and stationery products for TTRPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder 2e, and more. It's run by me, Kylie, out of our small studio space near Pittsburgh, PA with the help of my new assistant. I created this channel to help share some of my tips and tricks for D&D 5e as well as how to use some of my creations in your D&D campaigns. Slowly I've started expanding to other TTRPGs and even video games! If you'd like to learn more about me or my business, check out our website cantripsmedia.com

    Thank you for this! Running a nautical campaign is a blast, but it's a lot easier in person. Having maps ready to go with effects is so nice

    Quick tips for people:
    - Set padding percentage to 0, that way you don't have to wall off the scene, there will be no space for people to move to
    - You don't actually need to close off the terrain walls if they go outside of the map area, that does nothing just make sure they are all the way to the edges
    - If you were keeping tokens in the padding area, you can keep them hidden on the map (Toggle Visibility State)
    - Bonus: FX Master has an underwater filter if you wanna install modules

    4:42 Monks Wall Enhancments module can help alot here. It lets you draw a shape with drawing pencil tool, Drag a square about the map or a circle, freehand draw etc. Then there will be a button Convert to wall, and it does just that. BAM!
    (it will convert to the last wall type you had selected in the wall tool)
    If the points arent quiet joined (letting light through the crack) Select the two lines that intersect (hold shift) and then hitthe broom tool and it will make sure they are connected.

    Just a tidbit to save like 10 seconds. If you're using Monk's enhanced walls you can just go to configure for the map and while on the Basics tab it has Wall Scene and Close Doors option which will put walls around the map automatically for you as the border, or close all doors if you need to.

      Thanks for sharing! I wasn't using that module here and I try to keep my list of modules down, though I enjoy all of Monk's stuff usually. So hopefully people find this comment and it helps them!

    3:37 OR, count the number of whole squares along the width of the map; lets say there are 32.
    If edges of image dont line up exactly with grid map so you get part squares either side, count as one (so 31+ (2xpart squares either side)= 32) Multiply this by the grid Size, 255 = 8160.
    Enter 8160 into the width of the image and bingo! Grids lines up......
    If not usually means (if you look at the map) theres a tiny bit of square on one side of the map (Because artists dont know how to do math when they put the grid on their art!! LOL) so it was 32.34 or something Then use the grid thing to fanagle it a bit.

      @@CantripsMedia I totally get that, and respect the effort.
      My written 3D tutorials took a lot of time, because I had to create a 3D model and do a step-by-step on how it was done, all while capturing screen caps. I would have thought video was easier but you have to do a lot of editing on top. As it was a tutorial would come out in numerous parts over several months.
      I've created 3D maps for video games but never for TTRPG. After watching your tutorial I'll give it a try.

      @CantripsMedia  2 дня назад +1

      Oh yes! But I think it's fun and I also have a bit of help with the video editing.
      3D maps would be much much harder and so interesting to see. Good luck in all your endeavors.
