Times have changed and we are a different generation of people. We don’t stay at jobs 10,20,30+ years anymore like the older folks do. Our mindset towards the average 9to5 work life has shifted a lot since these past few years. We want to start businesses, we want to explore different ways to earn money, we want freedom, we want time with our families. We are awake now and we know that this work life is misery

@@HaleyGarcia-p4z if you want to own your own business, you don't need a degree. A degree is only useful if you want to get hired by a company that requires a degree. If you work for yourself. it doesn't matter. As far as knowledge goes to run and operate a business, any textbook you read in college can be found on Amazon and read at your own leisure. And most of the information that is actually useful can be found for free. This is why so many people that actually do lunch successful businessnes drop out of college because they realize they don't need it. College, at best, will eat up your time, energy and resources for no reason.

    • @Beyondthesurfacewithmichael
      @Beyondthesurfacewithmichael  3 года назад +51

I get it, and the thing we need to understand is that there are always going to be better options whether it's a job, better-looking boyfriends or girlfriends, etc. Unfortunately, we can't take every option but we can take an option that leads us towards our ultimate goal in life. My advice is for you to take out a piece of paper and write your strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes when it comes to working. ask yourself questions like; what could I see myself doing every day, what would be fun. From there you can start to write down all the different jobs that include your strengths and what you're into.

Im 30 years old now, I cant work for anybody man. One day of training and on day two I was on my own and not in a Prius like they said but that I had to use my own car....lol. Red flag one, then my friend who is lazy was taking advantage of me by telling me to stay late to finish his stores so he wouldn't have to do anything the following day. Plus it's a whole different side of town that I don't know. It was too much work and too little pay. Having multiple skills is the end goal.
Dont quit from fast food to go work another fast food. Etc
Use great wording in your resumes or hire someone to create one for you . Thats how you move up.
In these current times there is no job security like there was 30 , 40 years ago.
Wages arent increasing but bills are . Dont ever feel bad for leaving a job if you have something greater in mind, but NEVER leave a job without having some form of income set up. Struggling to pay your bills is a pain .

I had one job for a temp agency repeatedly tell us friday we "have to" come in for saturday. Then, within the same day they said no more phones in the building and we'll be doing 2 weeks in a row (14 days and weekends) which is illegal. I walked.
I had a boss at Wal-Mart repeatedly tell everyone to keep doing something, like he would not let up. I actually had my fingers exposed once a few years ago until they were purple so now they DO NOT do good in the cold. they go dead, and sting. As soon as he asked me to go push carts (just to keep telling people to do things, he had FOUR of us out there believe it or not) I walked when my fingers started to piss me off.
I know to some people these are "low" jobs but I graduated a trade school and worked with computers and in offices and there is always something. SOMETHING to piss me off. sexism, classism, whatever.. wish I had something positive to say, just sharing experiences. I think Im about to go work fast food 7 days a week. To me its about luck. Some will SAY they want more but aren’t willing to make sacrifices to get more so they settle. Others know they want more and are willing to make changes but they’re stuck because this is new territory for them, they’re not sure how to proceed so they get overwhelmed, paralysis by analysis, procrastination, etc.

The longest job I had I stayed for 6 years. I genuinely enjoyed that industry and would have stayed longer until we got a new CEO (who had a political agenda when he applied to that post) and I quit. This was in the beginning of the pandemic.
I got a part-time job to help pay off my bills, and was pressured by family to find a full-time job in the meantime. Eventually I found one, but it was a miserable experience. I quit and upgraded my skills, then tried my luck again. Holy shit, the next one was so much worse, and lasted even shorter. Went back to part-time and I'm much happier.
I suspect that I'm on the spectrum, and I can't mask anymore. People who suck up to upper management just make it suck for everyone else, and I can't deal with that anymore.

So far I have 2 jobs I'm moving forward with, buy whichever one I officially get first, I know i have to stick with it until I can get in & finish school. I'm more motivated than any year. My problem is that I can't stand working for other people barely making enough to get by. I'd rather be an entrepreneur, I always liked to set my own rules & be my own boss. I can relate, Its like leap frog. It gets old and the outcome is always the same.
Personally, i think everyone is tired of bills, lol.
Working a meaningless job day in and out, after last year, its reevaluation time.
I was at dennys the other day, i swear the waitress was doing the job of 3 people. How can this last?
The restaurant industry was completely using people. they would pay below minimum wage because of tips, but like this lady said, if there's no one in there, you make nothing. If you dont work, you make nothing.
My last job was at a restaurant. As the expo, i was being paid 9 dollars an hour with tips....9 bucks an hour! Meanwhile the owner was telling us how his other restaurant made 4 million last year. I decided he can go run the food to the tables since he obviously gets paid well for it. I walked away.
Its funny how management always says. " Give us 2 weeks so we can replace you." More often than not, once they know you are leaving, your sent home way before the 2 weeks. So if they wont give me 2 weeks to look for another job, why should I give them 2 weeks?
I want meaning in what I do. Ive done the soulless, meaningless jobs, they fill nothing.

I started having this issue in 2018, when I was heavily depressed and couldn't manage my workload well. The jobs did have managers that were unreasonable to a degree but looking back I left each time because of deep stress I brought with me. The jobs were stressful in some cases but they weren't the source of it. I was depressed and anxious before I got there and the job and the people were easy to blame. The pandemic and some life changing events helped me be more aware. I find myself wanting to quit a job whenever I feel deeply stressed, and once I handle the stressor I'm OK again. Self awareness is key, no matter how much we don't want to face it.
My biggest issue now is being consistent and self aware during stressful times and disruptions. I tend to go down hill whenever my routine is interrupted, which causes high anxiety. I'm working on rebounding faster while still acknowledging that shit happens and it can be upsetting.. but all in all life isn't over.
I've still got a ways to go but any little bit helps, like you said.

Folks, you NEED a TRADE, hustle or a degree that will give you a return on your investment. Soon, automation will take over and you won't have jobs to quit. Stop avoiding paying your dues with low or nonexistent skills.

I been wanting to do trades since 2019 and have set out on a mission to do them. Even moved to another state to have more opportunities to do the trades. They all suck. They all are terrible. Most of the people doing them are doing them cuz they gave up on their dreams. They gave up on figuring out what they love to do. They hate it. They’re miserable. Stfu about the trades. All I hear people say is to skip college and go into the trades. Trades are just as bad. What folks NEED to do is what they WANT to do.

😂 for me it has nothing to do with ADHD and more to do with not having a plan for my life. I was focusing on the wrong things.

I think a lot of people (even successful ones) don't do this sort of self introspection until very late in their careers. With things changing so fast in the workplace these days, everyone will need to ask themselves some very difficult questions sooner or later.

Thanks so much for this video and sharing your journey. I work in tech and I'm struggling with the same thing where I keep quitting jobs and getting a new job for money. I finally got a job where the workload is way more than I can handle for not that much more pay. Its eating into other aspects of my life that I care about. This tough situation is making me re-evaluate my goals and myself. Loved the first point, just realizing...why WAS I passed for promotion, what can i do. I needed to work on what I lacked
