I saw this tour in 1971 at 14 - they opened for Deep Purple at NY's Felt Forum. We had 2nd row seats right in front of Christine McVie (the start of my romance with Christine).
Thank you for putting this on I haven't heard this I'm not even going to say but the only thing I regret is buying an 8-track tape of this album anyway thanks again😁

No. Not underrated. Everyone who was playing blues or blues/rock professionally at that time knew who he was and what he could do. (At least according to plenty of sources that said he was well-known in those circles.) And often, he wasn't even the best guitarist in his own band. So, no. Not underrated at all. He was a good guitarist, not one of the greats.

My older brother had all 3 Kiln,Bare & Future and Then Play On which was my first intro to the old FM and i remember loving Peter Greens voice but did not know how much Danny contributed to that album until I heard Peter G passed away then started to listen and read about Danny during the lockdown and what treasures of music but also sadness of the darkness that Peter and Danny went through! Pray they are playing together wherever they are. Stay away from excessive drug use musicians it will open doors you never want to go through in my opinion. God keep you💞
Ivan Hozjan I would recommend all Danny Kirwan era albums: ‘Then Play On’, ‘Kiln House’, ‘Future Games’ & ‘Bare Trees’. Danny was a friend of mine, we met in the mid ‘90s and hung out for a few years before he moved to Holland. Sadly Danny passed away last year. Danny’s solo albums are also awesome. I did an interview with The Guitar Show last month concerning my friendship with Danny I’ll share below. Danny had left some awesome music for people to enjoy for as long as recorded music is listened to . All the best. My first time to hear this incredible album was my freshman year at UMASS in Amherst in the fall of 1971 in a room on 4th floor Dwight House in the Quad, with a group of older classmates, all who had tripped on LSD and been to Woodstock. I was smoking good pot at the time...I will NEVER get tired of this music!
There's something very down to earth about Danny's sound. Didn't hear much about him at the time but I think more and more people are realizing how important his contribution to FM's success actually was. Brilliant!!! Thanx for posting!!!
The whole album is special, back when songwriting was a craft, and recording artists took great pride in turning out good compositions. Wonderful musicianship, and Danny Kirwan's songwriting sensitivity is particularly noticeable
Do you seriously think that "songwriting as a craft" and "pride in turning out good compositions" are things of the past? Really? Serious question. How many neighborhood kids have you shaken your liver-spotted fists at and yelled, "Get off my lawn"?

THanks for posting! We old heads have this debate about which is their favorite Mac albums...my buddy LOVES this one best, and there are days when I can see that. And, there are days when others see my favorite in a new light, being Bare Trees. But, nobody EVER picks an album from the Buck/nicks era...not that there is any dislike, but the sound is much different. The old Mac bands had the envy of all other artists. The new Mac had the envy of all other financiers :) We're sure grateful for having Christine Perfect in our lives for so many decades, aren't we? Sure gonna miss that woman. Tobias
Danny was a friend of mine. Lovely to hear this. Danny was in good spirits last time we met and most of the stories about him are false. He’s a very funny man, and a good person.
Paul Stoker I haven’t seen Danny for a few years since he moved abroad. He was in great form when I attended his leaving do. I’m sure he’s fine... the stories about his situation were extremely exaggerated and plain false. I met Peter with him and know they are in contact and on good terms. Danny has no regrets. He’s a very funny man with a great sense of humour.
Sorry for your loss....it's too bad he didn't get the love he deserved in enough quantity to help him get through his final years with more happiness....hope he's feeling it now!
Don Crouch Thanks for your words brother. I sang “Dust” in a local bar on Sunday in Danny’s honour. I’ve been listening to his solo albums too. Some really fine songs and performances. It’s great to see all the love for Danny. He was a lovely man. He helped me with my grief for my father by making me laugh every time we met. He had friends and love in his life, he was loved on a personal level and was very happy in his life. I can only think of Danny with laughter because he laughed at everything, including past difficulties. He was a happy man. That’s how I remember him. Take care. Rest in peace Danny. Well done.
John MacAulay 13 January 2018 Many thanks to Thomas for sharing some of the VERY BEST of Fleetwood Mac. Danny Kirwan's playing is nothing short ofBRILLIANT...an enchanting example of "Less is More," especially on WOMAN OF 1000 YEARS and SANDS OF TIME. He sparkledin much the same way on BARE TREES (ie. SUNNY SIDE OF HEAVEN, DUST and SENTIMENTAL LADY). It's a shame that his WHITE FLAME dimmed in his solo career, but for 4 or 5 years that baby-faced virtuoso made my high school listening veryenjoyable! If the CD format had existed in the early '70s those two LPs would have formed one of the very best discs...EVER!This is not to discount the chemistry of F-MAC during the Post-Peter Green years. The namesake rhythm section, Christine McVie, and Bob Welch, along with Jeremy Spencer (on KILN HOUSE) had much to do with that cohesive blend of melodic bliss. What a wonderful era of music...THAT VINTAGE of the MAC was very underrated in those days. 45+ years later I appreciatethat echo-laden offspring of "ALBATROSS" even more!
Nice summation of the changes within the great Fleetwood Mac years.Mick is the cornerstone of all we acknowledge with John right beside him, but what wonderful contributions Christine💙 Danny , Bob here ; such a rich vein of individuals before ,after, in future Fleetwood Mac lineups; love them all.Saying all this; Peter Green beside the late Danny Kirwan.X was a beautiful ; unforgettable time for The Mac X!
One of the four best FM albums, with Then Play On, Rumours, The White Album...and a good listen still, on the sad anniversaries of both Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch's deaths...both left us too early, and deserved happier lives...😥
First time hearing this. Bare Trees is one of my favorite albums ever, so I don't know how I missed this one; but good lord, I am completely slain! Thank you so much for posting.
This transports me to a 15 year old madly in love with Danny Kirwan and playing these albums to the ground. All these songs hold well. Danny was genius and such a young talent. Love that the music lives forever.
Yes it's my Favorite Mac album, I was in love with Christine for so long.Kirwan was splendid as well as Bob Welch.IMHO when Stevie and Lyndsey came it was never the same? An old friend turned me on to them in the very early 70's and we went to see them at UNC-Chapel Hill along with about 200 others. I stared at Chris all night ,finally caught her eye and mouthed I LOVE YOU and she smiled and I died a wonderful death!!!
Love Danny somehow I got lucky when I was a little kid my first album was Kiln House I picked it out of what was there at a grocery store in AZ and it is still one of my fav albums the other I picked was Tumbleweed Connection just when by album cover energy I wasn't aware of but drew me to pick these two and I got home and was like what the hell is blood on the floor doing here bahaha still wonder about that.both albums started my musical journey but what a pick that was like winning the lottery can you imagine ? I realize now what an amazing rare beautiful talent Danny was I love the way he plays hits those notes you know the ones that bring pleasure I just wish there was more music more video from old super 8s anything just more of Dannys talents.
WMMS in Cleveland played the title track Future Games and it immediately took me right over the top...such a special song that affected my life in such a positive way at such a young age of 15.
Just over fifty years ago, I bought my first stereo system. Then the first album I bought was Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees. Bought this album as soon as I found it at Karma Records. Early stuff was not as commercially successful, but it's why I love this band.
This whole album is great and sounds better every time I hear it (always have to play the whole thing, both sides... I have it on vinyl). "Morning Rain" was the first Fleetwood Mac song I ever heard.. guess it was 45 years ago - times flies. THANKS for uploading this.
You can listen to most of these songs repeatedly and focus on one guitar or another, or the vocals. Or the entire song. So rich you are hearing something slightly different and subtle each time.
I was barely five years old when this came out...one of the groups four best albums... with then play on, and the first two Buckingham-Nicks albums...🤔
Thank you for sharing. This is one of my favorite albums. I still have 2 copies of this album but no longer have a turntable. Good to hear this again. Brings back lots of good memories.
Future Games, Bare Trees And Hero’s are Hard to Find, not to negate al the begining Blues phase of the band and not as accessible to the average, Where the most memorable bookmarks in my High School years. I am glad to see that some of us still remember.
One of the best guitars I have heard...the background melodies and their means of changing the tempo in the song... bringing it all to climatic ending...
Same here. Once I discovered Rumours... I went and bought most everything FM I could find... on vinyl! I even bought, and love, The Legendary Christine Perfect album. Wouldn't trade any of them for anything.
Listening to the entire thing on loop as I clean. GREAT sound, Lindsey and Stevie added that "something" they needed to get to the next level. TY Mick Fleetwood for finding them!!!❤❤
Jill O'Malley Yup, no band went through changes like "Mac" did and remained great and in some ways got even better. I remember buying this the week it came out and how Christines singing blew me away . This lp is/ was awesome and a perfect example of how music was getting better in the early 1970's. To think they were once described as a British guitar group and that's all. Ha, they were so much more.
Right near the top of my list of beautiful, artful albums created in my lifetime.................brings me great joy every time I listen to it...............still...........
Future Games is the fifth studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 3 September 1971. It was their first album to feature Christine McVie as a full member. This album was also the first of five albums to feature American guitarist Bob Welch . “He was totally different background - R&B, sort of jazzy. He brought his personality,” Mick Fleetwood said of Welch in a 1995 BBC interview. “He was a member of Fleetwood Mac before we’d even played a note.”
i have a favorite moment on this album. It occurs on the Future Games track where at the end the power chords come in oh so slowly in the song's "you're not the only one" stage....gently those chops roll in and then rip out my chest cavity....affects me the same way every day.... reminds me of our 100 day acid runs.
interesting about the trips. This period in our collective lives ..fans & musicians was heavily influenced by Psychedelics. The music was being written & played on Acid, mescaline..etc..Woman of 1000 years & Sands Of Time are ethereal and take me back to Kauai and magic mushrooms growing out of cow patties..eating them on the spot..( yuch!!) coming on while listening to Future Games

God keep you💞
I took one cassette with me to Vietnam in 1971 . Still my favorite today . 11 Bravo .
Thank you for your service and welcome home brother. 13 Echo
Thank you for your service.
Me too
One of the most overlooked albums by not so overlooked artists.

Remember picking up on this Mac period, on pirate radio, and went out and bought all the albums! Real timeless magic! R.I.P. Danny.
Any old blue horizon
There's something very down to earth about Danny's sound. Didn't hear much about him at the time but I think more and more people are realizing how important his contribution to FM's success actually was. Brilliant!!! Thanx for posting!!!
50 ans après, on ne s'en lasse toujours pas, un des dix plus beaux disques de la pop ! Qu'on se le dise !
These guys were on another level from many artists back in the day. Classic!
The whole album is special, back when songwriting was a craft, and recording artists took great pride in turning out good compositions. Wonderful musicianship, and Danny Kirwan's songwriting sensitivity is particularly noticeable
Really! Where have they gone? They are NOT being replaced, sadly.
Do you seriously think that "songwriting as a craft" and "pride in turning out good compositions" are things of the past? Really?
Serious question. How many neighborhood kids have you shaken your liver-spotted fists at and yelled, "Get off my lawn"?
Great album! When they were still into rock and blues. Always have loved this album!
Danny was the soul. Sands of time, best song ever!
@CooganAgree! Danny was a genious. He wrote the best songs of FM being a young man.
Not to detract from Sands Of Time, but Future Games is the best song ever!
Underrated album. It takes a few listens, but give it a chance and it will sink in.
What a gem of an album!!!! Superb in every single way........Bob Welch is such a great addition on this LP. This is probably my favorite FM album. 🎸
Yup.
My favorite FM album. "Morning Rain" is a masterpiece!
The talent of Fleetwood Mac from the beginning has been amazing. The contributions they made are really untouchable to me.

the future games album was by excellence danny kirwan album with some of the best of what he achieved.
Had this on 8track!!! Played the living crap out of it ,my all-time favorite Mac song is Morning Rain 🥰
Always loved all Fleetwod Mac pre-Nicks and Buckingham. This one is a masterpiece I have listened to since the early seventies.
Imagine Green, Kirwan, Welch, and Weston all jamming and singing together in the great beyond - that's a helluva lineup right there. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎵🎶🌌🌌🌠
If you believe in forever then there's something you should understand: If there's a rock and roll heaven, well you know they've got a hell of a band!
I wrote elsewhere of Danny's contribution to his bandmates' songs. This is a brilliant example of that.
Tobias
What a beautiful arrangement of true music,. Transports me to a peaceful place.
Talk about one of the actual greatest albums ever made. Gets no love and it's a tragedy
I had forgotten how magnificent this album is - thanks for posting - it's moving to the front of my album collection.
I have never forgotten - from the day I bought it in 1971 - what a masterpiece this album is.
Danny was a friend of mine. Lovely to hear this. Danny was in good spirits last time we met and most of the stories about him are false. He’s a very funny man, and a good person.
Leon Donnelly do you still see him, hope he is well 👍
Paul Stoker I haven’t seen Danny for a few years since he moved abroad.
Well done.
I can tell by the words you've used that Danny was an admired and loved friend. Thank you for sharing this personal story.
The guitar work is nothing short of astounding. Complete vocal quality.
jmaz1100 That's Danny Kirwan for you.
RIP Danny. Thank you for the beautiful words and wonderful guitar work.
I just love that you can clearly hear each word , each note . Not that wall of sound BS .
@@dukehoffman124 Agree!!! Great recording job!!! 👍
This is so beautiful. Loved Danny and Christine's voice is hauntingly wonderful. RIP xxx
Great album! Good old time.Greetings from Kosovo 🇽🇰to all Fleetwood Mac fans around the world!
One of the four best FM albums, with Then Play On, Rumours, The White
Album...and a good listen still, on the sad anniversaries of both Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch's deaths...both left us too early, and deserved happier lives...😥
Danny KIRWAN.
@@Steevee14 the joys of spell check...didn't notice
Danny was unjustly ignored---he was the real deal!
Such a great hippie vibe. People under 55 don't know what they missed. We were the blessed generation-TJ STRUSKA
You got that right hon!
Bob Welch was awesome, I saw them right after " mystery to me " , gosh they were good.
I can't agree with you anymore.
Beautiful. Especially, Danny Kirwan.
I realize now what an amazing rare beautiful talent Danny was I love the way he plays hits those notes you know the ones that bring pleasure I just wish there was more music more video from old super 8s anything just more of Dannys talents.
the ones that bring pleasure That hits the nail squarely on the head.
Kiln House and Tumbleweed Connection are two of my favorite LPs.
WMMS in Cleveland played the title track Future Games and it immediately took me right over the top...such a special song that affected my life in such a positive way at such a young age of 15.
The go-to LP to lay back and smoke a number in those days.
This is also my favorite, I love Sand's of Time.
AfterDarkMatter future games and sands of times, 2 of my faves! love all of the beautiful comments.👍🤗🤗🌴🌴
ME 2
Yes - Bomb album. Bought in ' 71 and still have it !. I had the Yellow one at one time !
Wow, the recording and mix is something. I am listening now with headphones.
Absolutely a most beautiful collection of music in our time.
It's perfect on a warm sunny day while I water the garden. Thank you!
I was 2 when they released this and it's one of my favourite albums ever since my student days in the early 1990s.
I was barely five years old when this came out...one of the groups four best albums... with then play on, and the first two Buckingham-Nicks albums...🤔
I remember listening to this on vinyl when it was new on an old ass Magnavox turntable. Sounded fantastic then and it still does today. ☮️
first heard this in 1971, a quiet morning on the straits of malacca. an anchor point in my life.
I saw both Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and the "US" line up. Both great. This one is gorgeous. Very underrated. Kirwan had such a lovely tone. RIP.
Beautiful tones. (Very tasteful).
Some of their best work
It's like they were really three or four different bands over the course of time
Don't forget Kiln House!
Ahhh... Woman of a Thousand Years, I knew you were out there somewhere - Thanks Thomas
One of the best guitars I have heard...the background melodies and their means of changing the tempo in the song... bringing it all to climatic ending...
Yes. The Buckingham-Nicks songs are fine in their own way but there is no subtlety in the way these songs have.
I love the entire album! I am a huge Mac fan!
TY Mick Fleetwood for finding them!!!❤❤
Stevie wasnt in the band when this was recorded
Duh
I adore this album, in my top 10 of all time. Thanks for sharing.
all faces of Mac had their own places. all of them different all great
Jill O'Malley Yup, no band went through changes like "Mac" did and remained great and in some ways got even better. I remember buying this the week it came out and how Christines singing blew me away . This lp is/ was awesome and a perfect example of how music was getting better in the early 1970's. To think they were once described as a British guitar group and that's all. Ha, they were so much more.
Well put,Jill!
My thoughts and feelings exactly
Phases.
Right near the top of my list of beautiful, artful albums created in my lifetime.................brings me great joy every time I listen to it...............still...........
David Zimmerlime too😎
Future Games is the fifth studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on 3 September 1971. It was their first album to feature Christine McVie as a full member. This album was also the first of five albums to feature American guitarist Bob Welch . “He was totally different background - R&B, sort of jazzy. He brought his personality,” Mick Fleetwood said of Welch in a 1995 BBC interview. “He was a member of Fleetwood Mac before we’d even played a note.”
good bit of copying and pasting from Wikipedia there
I have the vinyl in my old collection. Danny Kirwan - hugely underrated.
i have a favorite moment on this album.
That organ intro on the chorus (ta ta tat ta tat ta) reminds of the same intro on Mac Davis’ “Don’t Get Hooked on Me.”
this LP was my intro to FM back in 1973....LOVE
Excellent album!
thx fdor sharing this , the most sublime material from FM.....I love it as much as Bare Trees...or Mystery to Me...
Tim McCarthy ya 😎
