"In 2019 & almost six years after his passing, songwriter, singer, and widow Christine Lakeland-Cale and manager Mike Kappus delivered "Stay Around", a 15-track set of unreleased material drawn from the whole of Cale's career. These cuts were sitting in the vault, mixed, mastered, and finished. According to Lakeland, Cale always cut more songs than necessary, holding back tracks that didn't fit the particular album theme he was working on, or to have on hand in case he needed them later. Cale is as usual on vocals & guitar, with help from musicians - Bill Raffensperger, Bobby Emmons, Christine Lakeland-Cale, David Briggs, David Teegarden, James Cruce, Jim Keltner, Jim Karstein, Johnny Christopher, Kenny Buttrey, Larry Bell, Reggie Young, Rocky Frisco, Spooner Oldham, Tim Drummond, Tommy Cogbill & Walt Richmond."
I have all his albums except this. I recall the excitement every time I came to discover he'd released a new one. As he's my favourite musician. Never thought I would experience the excitement again; thank you Christine Lakeland-Cale! Now I have to find it to complete my collection.
I’m 64 years old and just now discovering JJ Cale! I had heard of him through other artists but never heard him! His music is very inspiring to me! Country but not! More like country/blues! Awesome!
Me too 🤣 fun all day and night hahaha where did you find this one cool love the sound hey open up a bottle root beer hahaha 🤣🤣 their over there in the cold stream hahaha
He had rythmn like you wouldnt believe. He did his own guitar tuning and his own production. Does'nt get cooler than that. If you want to teach your kids guitar rythms buy them his double album. A treasure !. (I'm a lifelong fan. ). 👍💙🐎🤠🌵
The "Stay around" song might easily be the crown-jewel of JJ's mastery - a true master piece in the realm of ballads. It's like the air that one is breathing, coming naturally and easy, so that one can listen to it time and again and time and again...
I bumped my phone and this album started playing in the car. What an undiscovered treat! JJ was cooking right up to his passing, give thanks and appreciation for his gift to us.
Alot of people have tried, but no one can ever be J.J., it was a style of his own and people really figure it out. I remember I was attracted to his sound back in the early 60's. At that time "AM" radio station's in Virginia were already on that sound.
JJ grows on us. Unless your dead and probably even then. From the moment you first hear his music, his unique sound, until the last moment of life, JJ Cale soothes the soul. Thanks for sharing one from the vault Christine.😊 All the best.
Always been a fan of this nonchalant, devil may care cool guy. Such a refreshing foil to the chains of modern monied living and late Capitalism. These tracks affirm, as with his other albums, his true authenticity as a rebel with a cause : how to simply be yourself amid the pushing and shoving, hecking and pecking materialistic ways of the world.
I've always taken confidence from JJ's advice in the words of his song 'DON'T WAIT' Apart from being a great song, they are lyrics to live by. R.I.P Kind sir, you're a legend in many a record collection.
Stay around Stay around, girl And let's make love one more time Stay around Stay around, girl Ain't nothing like you, you're so fine Let's slip away Away into the night Let's make love 'til it feels just right Stay around Stay around, girl And let's make love one more time Ain't nowhere else you've got to go And neither do I Ain't nobody else I want to know I don't even try Let's put it on Let it cook for a bit Let's try it out, and see if it fits Stay around Stay around, girl And let's make love one more time Let's slip away, away into the night Let's make love 'til it feels just right Stay around Stay around, girl And let's make love one more time Ain't nowhere else you've got to go Ain't nobody else I want to know Stay around Stay around, girl And let's make love Let us make love Let us make love one more time

I never really took the time to give this the love it needs... I'M RECTIFYING THE PROBLEM NOW... Some of drumming puts the ING into SWING.. Like a train on the MARIIE track.. Sublime JJ at his best again...
Just happened across this… thank you YT! And thanks to his widow for helping compile this. Been listening to JJ since circa 1977. This whole album is simply mesmerizing and wonderful…… all musicians and of course JJ himself. And the percussion and drum work on Maria! Hard to put any of this words. My heart and soul can, but I can’t!
Look these folks up individually. You're going to be surprised by what you find. Some of the best before and after there time. Enjoy the search. Your going to enjoy this.
What a wonderful surprise! I'm very happy having discovered this ! Makes my day... and many following days. Thanks for giving this to us! Got some wet eyes...
I love J.J. Cale and I can't understand how this album got through my usually reliable album radar... but I'm sure glad it did. My copy is ordered and on its way.
One of his best mates was Neil Young; and as legend goes, they would jam together in their barns up in the wilds of the USA. (Oh boy, wish i was there ! ). 🤠🌵🌱💙🍃
Would be cool if it was true, unfortunately it’s not. They played some together for sure but hardly best mates. JJ’s talent and taste just ellipses everything Neil has done for the past 40 years.
This album is really good, i love it, this man goes back a long way with me. I remember after i finished shift work (11p) id go home and set up my tape deck in the bathroom put one of his tapes on, and sing along in a nice hot shower. Thanks guys❤❤

JJ Cale was arguably the funkiest person who has ever lived.
I have all his albums except this. I recall the excitement every time I came to discover he'd released a new one. As he's my favourite musician. Never thought I would experience the excitement again; thank you Christine Lakeland-Cale! Now I have to find it to complete my collection.
Indeed JJ is one of the best... my favourite is "Okie".
Christine Lakeland also has put out great albums of her own.
I’m 64 years old and just now discovering JJ Cale! I had heard of him through other artists but never heard him! His music is very inspiring to me! Country but not! More like country/blues! Awesome!

Had the good fortune to see JJ Cale three times . Really .
So lucky. I've always been in love with him.
@sirfrancisdrake4285
Sir, you are blessed. Love your moniker, a once great Hotel in SanFransisco!
He had rythmn like you wouldnt believe. He did his own guitar tuning and his own production.
Does'nt get cooler than that.
If you want to teach your kids guitar rythms buy them his double album. A treasure !. (I'm a lifelong fan. ). 👍💙🐎🤠🌵

I love stay around. As I am missing my husband who died in 2007. Miss him 24/7

Been listening to JJ since the seventies...there'd be a big hole in music if it were'nt for his songs!
and these were the songs he left off his albums!
IKR!!
Hooray, vintage JJ with no modern "enhancement". That sound, those grooves, the guitar playing - Thanks For Posting!

Gotta know that Tulsa sound and way of living .
JJC is one of the most inoffensive listens, ever. Basic three part chord progression, but always imaginative, never clichéd.
JJ grows on us. Unless your dead and probably even then. From the moment you first hear his music, his unique sound, until the last moment of life, JJ Cale soothes the soul.
Thanks for sharing one from the vault Christine.😊

Not a bad death if one would be listening to his music. It would be partying in heaven or hell, who knows! 😅

Stay around
Stay around, girl
And let's make love one more time

Ain't nothing like you, you're so fine
Let's slip away
Away into the night
Let's make love 'til it feels just right
Stay around

And let's make love one more time
Ain't nowhere else you've got to go
And neither do I
Ain't nobody else
I want to know

Let's put it on
Let it cook for a bit
Let's try it out, and see if it fits
Stay around

And let's make love one more time
Let's slip away, away into the night
Let's make love 'til it feels just right

I want to know

Great LP from late John J Cale. My favorite musician since 1972 (Call Me the Breeze) and still.
Stars kommen und gehen, C.C. ist Zeitlos. Ich hörte seine Musik schon vor 50 Jahren und Sie wird nicht langweilig. 👍 💫
Sowohl C. C. als J. J. (Cale), B. B. (King) und Z. Z. (Top)!

Wow! You know that's right! How awesome would that be? Two of the best, for sure!
For sure! JJ wrote songs in his sleep! LOL...Still a nice story or thought.@@TheNaturalust
Neil was certainly a fan of JJ Cale, placing him in Hendrix company as far as talent and style, one to emulate
