The SG-09, Sentinel Nine, Punisher, Red-9, Blacktail and Matilda, all of which are rather good - but is one of them the BEST? At the end of the day which serves you best will come down to your playstyle. Arguably, the Red-9 is numberically optimal in many situations, but I would have to pick the Silver Ghost most of the time.

I picked the blacktail for my first playthough os re4 OG. Im now on my second run. This time im going with the red9

@@timytimotius4679 i got the final upgrade for it, and i feel like the red9 suits my style more than the blacktail. Both are good though
Weakness and strength are polarized with those two weapons.
The Blacktail uses the least amount of space, with high damage, and forgiving COF balloon, BUT! still doesn't have the highest damage, and it is the hardest weapon to gain Focus fire, because it takes for ever for the COF Balloon to shrink.
Red9! Has the highest shot per Damage, and having the Fastest Balloon shrinking with stock, allows easy Focus damage fire! But takes the most amount of space with stock. And the COF starts off really big, so taking time to aim is nearly always required, and reflex firing isn't recommended!
Silver Ghost is my favorite pistol (Both OG and Remake) due to it's laser accuracy and headshot crits and I don't think you know this but it's exclusive upgrade also affects melee crits as well.

Something you didn't mention was affordability. I split the handguns into 2 sub classes. Cheap and expensive. Theoretically a good cheap handgun isn't that far behind in power to an expensive one and still gets the job done well enough.
Sg and sentinel are both definitely better than the punisher I think. I've killed ashley with the penetration 3 times in the one run I used it. I'd rather just use a shotgun for shields. Overall sentinel I think is the best in the game but sg is still fine for a cheap alternative.
For the expensive ones. Blacktail seems like an obvious choice. Red9 doesn't have the dps the blacktail or matilda does and the rest of it's stats fall flat. Matilda is too spinel costly and the stock comes way too late. I would've liked blacktail to be available a bit earlier but it's the most practical. Here's my handgun tier list.
S: Sentinel 9, Blacktail
A: Sg 09
B: Matilda
C: Red 9, punisher
Price is certainly a factor! I just didn't think too much on it as money was fairly easy to come by I found
Blacktail is my go to maxed out is insane plus teaches you to get good with aim & make shots count the reload is amazing despite only carrying 13+1 in the chamber amazing gun🤟💯 its the only one i carried thru the campaign
red9 would always be my favorite both in the og and the remake.
It’s amazing how everyone has different, yet valid opinions on why they believe their choice handgun is the best. Speaks to how great this game is when it comes to balancing the weapons. My choice is the Red9, since I primarily used it in the OG and love the firepower. I’m also good with making sure every one of my shots are focused for increased crit rate. It really does come down to playstyle. I may try out the blacktail on my next playthrough, just wish that the laser sight could be used with it but that might end up making it the best by far if that was the case!
Oh yeah I think they did a great job at balancing the weapons - there's no "bad" choice really. Sure, one might be more "META" than the others, but even then, playstyle is very important.
SG is the best, LP boost critical hugely, its critical rate also applies to melee, if you are a good shooter and like to utilize perfect parry and melee, none comes close to it
red9 is just too ugly for me to use

Yeah I mostly just use the SG-09 R. But I use others sometimes. I mean the gun is custom made for Leon by the Legendary Joseph Kendo. Why would Leon just ditch it 😂. Plus it's a very solid firearm. Basically a 1/3 chance of each shot being critical. I wouldn't just use it for looks or immersion if it wasn't good.

I used the Punisher. It is absolutely awesome when the bullet penetrates the enemy shield. For sure the damage is not quite stronger than the Blacktail. But I chose this one as my favorite pistol.

It can penetrate wooden shields and spider plagas on ganado’s back. Sure it hits softer and is not that good in village but it is just so good when it comes to dealing with overwhelming amounts of enemies later on. Probably not the best pistol but its unique crowd control capability is just one of the kind as long as we adjust play styles to its strengths.
I also love the lack of recoil, or at least visual recoil, which imo the punisher has the least amount of visual recoil and sounds so nice which makes me love using it haha
Punisher fully leveled. Best pistol that can take a Laser scope for faster aiming with superior penetration power!

The red 9 used to be the best in the original, so thats what im using, but they are all so well balanced in the remake you really cant make a bad choice. Shotguns are the difficult choice.
Oh? That's the easiest choice for me! But I go purely by aesthetics - I love the Riot Gun, I always use that (or its variations) in every game with shotguns haha. Same way I always use the MP5. But if we're going more by stats then that is a harder choice, yeah. I miss how the spread of the OG shotgun in original RE4 was bsaically "everything horizontal in front of you dies."
@@SilverMont I decided on the riot gun too, although the W870 has the highest power fully upgraded and the striker has the ammo capacity. I'd choose the skull shaker as my 2nd choice as I only ever fire a few shots when I'm overwhelmed then switch back to the pistol. The inventory space is a lifesaver with the introduction of the bow gun and how much space the bow gun ammo and explosive rounds take up. Plus that reload animation is so terminator 2. 😂😂
It's honestly between the Riot gun and the Striker.

@@steve323f Cap. You didn't really think about your answer before saying it. Riot gun is for single target enemies while Striker is for mob clearing and boss eraser.
Matilda shoots so damn fast but it uses up anmo rather quickly. Max dmg is 2.0. burst is three shots so thats 6.0 but combine that with how fast this gun shoots you can get 2 bursts a second so thats like 12.0 dmg a second.

My friend and I have been playing through RE4R at the same time and have been comparing how our handguns perform. I chose the Sentinel-Nine, and he chose the Red-Nine. So far we've been clearing chapters at roughly the same pace. He usually has an abundance of ammo due to the Red-Nine's efficiency, but I usually have less trouble clearing out groups of enemies due to the Sentinel's crit chance and large magazine. IMO, Capcom did a phenomenal job balancing these pistols.
I agree! They did a fantastic job at making any of them feel solid and worth upgrading/focusing on. It really lets people choose which one just gels with them the best.
Blacktail all day now that ive been using it. Its fun to unload on enemies i barely knife now at close combat.
For me, is SG 09R, dont need to buy it with spinels or money (which is huge for me) and it is dirt cheap to upgrade even without exclusive upgrade ticket, ability to pop heads within few bullets is amazing
Matilda with Burst Stock deletes bosses... if you have the ammo for it. It's basically an SMG
I think the rate of fire might be higher than the TMP haha, not tested them like that but it sure feels like it
Even better imo. Using it with cat ears my pistol/knife only run was the easiest I had. It's more precise and quick, reloads super fast, and while dealing huge damage and stagger
I played my Pistol Only, No Merchant, No Healing Item run with a few pistols (the Matilda among them), Saddler died before he could even think about calling the Novistadors... The Big Cheese couldn't get a single attack through :D

I used the maxed out Matilda for the Minimalist trophy, had the Blacktail maxed out with me, but the Matilda was much more effective.

The Matilda is my favorite. Not only does it have the best crowd control. The Matilda also can be used for percision shooting by detaching the stock
It's a budget smg when stock is there without cheaper crafting materials too
I did my first playthrou with nightmare dif. matilda was pistol of my choise and it saved me so many times. 1 burst of bullets are enough to kill novistadors also its good in panic situations where are multiple enemy on your tail so I must say I really liked matilda with its burst
The red 9 is my go to I don’t care about the look as long as I can kill quickly dropping the target with fewer shots I’ve had success with it from my experience higher capacity and shoots faster means you go through ammunition faster and doesn’t mean better

Blacktail is the best. The rate of fire is what holds back the red 9. Even though the red9 is more powerful, its not enough power to notice a huge difference, and its not enough power to justify choosing the red 9 over the blacktails speed and power. If your shooting from a decent range where you can take some time, the red 9 is ok, but when things start happening fast and your using the red 9, your going to be forced swap to a different weapon, however the blacktail can hang in pretty much all situations and your not forced to swap weapons so much, even at longer ranges where the red 9 is at its best, the blacktail does good too. Also, it takes up way less space in the inventory if that matters to you, but its just one more reason the well rounded blacktail wins in my opinion.
Of course play styles matter, if your using the red9 and things get crazy, and your strat is just pull out a shot gun, that works. But as I said before, the blacktail can be used way more effectively even when getting rushed by multiple enemies. I just enjoy not always being forced to swap to the shotgun to survive when I'm using the red 9.
Silverghost = lasersight, crit chance with weak points
Red9 = Best overall damage, higher chance of staggering enemies even with body shots
i played the re4 the og one many years and i can tell the crit use alot of ammo but each time i finished the game with the blacktail its end up with saving 600 handgun ammo or more because u can combo it with tmp u do one hit to the head melee then use tmp for the head again or 4 ammo of the blacktail to kill or one ammo to the leg and suplex them but with the handgun u have to continue with the head and use alot of ammo because many times the crit didnt happen the punisher is for the players that prefer not using the shotgun and matilda burn alot of ammo the red9 is slow and in the remake it have a bad aiming sight so in my opinion the blacktail is the best handgun in the og and remake 😊
Matilda in the 1st RE4 absolutely vaporized everything once it's maxed. Love the Red9 but Matilda makes you happy, sleep in a bed, and want to have roots.

I like your review with pistols because you are NOT comparing weapons dependent on cat ears UNLIMITED AMMO. And are AWARE! That people are trying to unlock S+. So untill then... weapons like the Matilda and CQBR are completely useless! Due to the fact they chew through all your ammo in seconds.
For me with Leon, I like the SG09 and Red9!
Even with exclusive upgrade, you are still at mercy with RNG to make score crits. Which some times they trigger a lot, and some bazaar times, they don't when you really need them to on the SG09 or Sentinel! While the Red9 has more Persistent damage.
But then again the Red9's weakness is the 10slots Of inventory. And even tho the stock gives the weapon the fastest COF balloon shrinking. It still starts with the biggest balloon, requiring you to treat the pistol as a rifle and aim to get it down. But the high persistent Damage is worth it to me!
CQBR is actually okay. Just uses it like a free Stingray. With exclusive upgrades it hits as hard as Stingray. Just treat it as semi auto and aim every shot and rifle ammo count should still be manageable. Burst Matilda is just straight up bad. Technically we can still craft ammos but it means Matilda will compete resources with our shotgun. Definitely not something to be used in any NG.

@@wiggy009 it's an Assault Rifle you can Loot, Where you play as Ashley trying NOT to get killed by the knights. After Ashley gets captured, you can go back to those rooms as Leon and with the Cube Device Key, loot a CQBR Assault Rifle.
Good Weapon, but will eat all 30 Shots in about 3-5 seconds. And even by tapping, you can easily accidentally fire 2 shots. Only worth having if you upgrade it all the way. Without the Exclusive Upgrade to boost it 1.5 damage, it will perform badly.
Fun weapon when you have Cat Ears. Because then you have Infinite Ammo. And can just mow a entire crowd down with that weapon. But if you are trying to get S+ Professional. You really want the Stingray. Since you are BOTH in a extreme hurry, and need to conserve ammo. You really do NOT want to accidentally waste 2-3 shots on 1 target.
The Matilda with the set up can be downright broken; fully upgraded and having the cat ears. May even make it the best gun in the game.
My knife and pistol only run was a breeze; even easier than when I had all my weapons fully upgrade with unlimited ammo. I legit only used another pistol for really long range shots bc the Matilda mowed down.
Like the other semi or fully auto guns it staggers almost everyone while filling them with a ton of bullets (if you have infinite ammo).
But the matilda is even quicker to move and switch enemies, more precise (with the stock) and better range, little recoil, with much faster loading.
So you basically have the benefits of a smg and a pistol in one. Thing is I don't know how it is on a regular playthrough where handgun ammo is in lesser amounts.
Yeah if you get rid of the ammo problems you can definitely bullet storm things haha

If you play on hardcore or professional ammo is pretty scarce to the point you somewhat need to consider ammo damage ratio

Burst on that thing with or without cat ears still slaps. And i main the Sentinel Nine but i change it up every now and then with it. Made my knife and pistol run extreme easy.
They are all good, honestly. So a lot of it comes down to play style and aesthetics!

I use the Blacktail full maxed I think it’s the perfect balance the only downside is you can’t equip the laser but honestly once you get used to the aiming on the game it’s pretty neat. The shooting range really helps for that run and gun play style
Yeah, I think it's really just a convenience thing for the laser sight at the end of the day. You can do just fine without it. I love it though haha

As a person who wants efficiency and thinks style and aesthetics doesn't matter a single bit. This is my choice: Fighting Knife, Red9, Riot Gun, TMP, Stingray, Killer7

I have to disagree with the take that SG is top tier.
On hardcore mode this thing was getting me killed. The crit rate isn't reliable, and not landing a crit made it feel like a pez dispenser on hit. Zealots walk right through headshots.
I made the switch to the Blacktail and suddenly the game was getting a lot less stressful.
The Red9+Stock is also a solid choice but it's a total space hog. The Blacktail is the top gun I feel.
Are we talking a fresh hardcore or a like, NG+ run? 'cos you won't have blacktail frorm the start of a run on hardcore in a fresh game etc.
