Man, I really hate the argument "if you're good you don't get hit", because it's just blatantly false. Even people who play Isaac for a living and are exceptionally good at the game still get hit.
I think the silver lining is how extreme you take that logic, because there is some truth to it. As long as you don't get hit in normal floors you can go into cursed rooms, you can comfortably open spike chest, play out temperance machines and even do the sac room if there is enough hp to go around. Getting hit in isaac punishes your run in a very real way. If we apply the logic of "don't get hit" to Maggy I would say that her birthright is pretty bad because your probably not going to surpass 12 hearts if your run is bad, and if your run isn't bad you probably won't need 18 hp. If we apply it to t Lost I think the argument falls apart quickly because inevitably every player is still human so mistakes are bound to happen.
@@LovelySoftSnow Wish people understood this. It’s exactly why Lost and T. Lost can be so hard. You _will_ get hit sometimes no matter how good you are/get at the game. It just genuinely unavoidable sometimes.
your take on birthright being like an extra holy card on alt lost is absolutely bizarre - "its not gonna save your run' holy cards literally save runs so often as alt lost. birthright isnt merely just like finding a holy card on the floor; its like finding a holy card that automatically activates that you can hold alongside a holy card - the difference between being able to take 2 and 3 hits is huge for long boss fights because its literally just more survivability; which is kinda one of the reasons i think alt lost is easier than regular lost for long fights; since you can have the holy card shield while holding a holy card too compared to regular lost whos holy card chance is far lower
blue baby birthright in F is a crime, health is one of the biggest issues with blue baby so doubling all health gained from health ups is actually huge

It not only doubles all the health up items but the fact it CONVERTS red hearts to soul hearts? That not only solves the entire issue with blue baby but it somehow makes him BENEFIT from his own handicap
I definitely understand the mindset of why T. Lost's Birthright would be put so low, but I think something you didn't consider is that usually stuff that gives you extra lives like the 9-lives item you mentioned boot you out of the room when they happen, and while that might be good to guarantee you aren't dogpiled by enemies when you respawn that also means all your progress on the boss is reset. An extra life that brings you back to continue a boss where you left off, especially when you have at most three hits before you die, is a lot more valuable than I think you give it credit for.
Heavily disagree with T.Lost, the extra hit is huge for late game fights and it allowed me to get quite a few marks because of it. And it doesn't even make sense you ranking Keeper in A for the exact same reason (survivability against late bosses) and then putting T.Lost, the most fragile character in the game in D tier. Anyways, loved the video. I recently picked up Isaac again for the 2nd file Dead God and I'm really enjoying your channel.
Oh, and you're right that finding a Holy card is a bit better. But guess what? Holy cards on T.Lost are crazy good, so an effect that resembles it (and can be stacked!) should be ranked higher imo.
That's also what I thought, t.lost birthright is supposed to be preserved until a last boss such as Mother/The beast/Delirium, when it takes a long time to kill them and so you're more at risk to get hit even if your build is lazymattman tier
The problem with tlost is that most of your deaths arent reallt due to a skill issue like it is with characters with.. health.. where you can afford to stomach situations where you're basically guaranteed to get hit; you cant evaluate tlost revives the same way you evaluate revives on other characters
I've only gotten Tainted Bethany's Birthright once, and it gave me Ipecac, Spirit Sword, Rubber Cement and Lead Pencil which all synergised in such a specific way to make sure it'd kill me. Guppy's Collar revived me five times that run and I still lost.
Remember that you can kill the wisps by yourself, using fire, for example, with fire, and if you do it carefully, you can destroy one specific item that destroys your synergy
i feel you are SEVERELY underrating t blue baby's birthright, his poops are fucking insane and if played right his damage output can be brutal. it has a definite learning curve and even after getting all his marks i know that i'm still not very good at playing him but his potential cannot be ignored and putting his birthright in f tier is criminal
Maggy birthright is insane. Should be in B tier at least. Red health is so exploitable and having 6 extra heart containers basically guarantees a win, not to mention it gets a lot easier to maintain your soul hearts with high amounts of red health. Samson's is crazy as well. The damage from it is enough to carry an entire run and there are so many ways of getting a lot of red hearts, including the trinket he starts with
I disagree with the existence of F tier. Even for the Blue Baby variants, the effects do something, they don't do nothing, nor do they make a run worse than it was before. And even for the most gamers of gamers, Blue Baby's bonus HP from birthright is nice, it gives more wiggle room, something that no one would turn down and something that you'd even crave if you have an explosive run. Otherwise, I could also argue that Tainted Eden deserves higher. When you find birthright and you have a bad build, you can just find a fire and reroll your current build until you find something strong.
That's player specific, but chances are that if you know how to deal with and use Dark Esau, you can do just as well with 2 of them. And if you can do that you have double the power. I can't speak from experience because I have only 2 marks on Tainted Jacob. (Beating it lives and beating boss rush)
I think you put down Maggie’s birthright as it helps with abusing donation machines, sacrifice rooms, devil beggars, pound of flesh. Practically anything that requires extra health to benefit from can be used way more.
birthright is amazing on bethany if you've hoarded soul hearts until you found a red key or something, it effectively increases the amount you already gathered
47:51 T. Lost runs aren’t lost because of bad builds, it’s because YOU HAVE NO HEALTH. Don’t have to flex your youtuber powers. Also here’s an idea for ???’s birthright that you consider bad. Blue baby: “Asphyxiate” Enemies hit by your tears will gain an effect called Asphyxiation. Asphyxiation will first gradually slow the enemy, then apply confusion, then start dealing rapid damage.
i mean, theres a reason itd be considered bad i love the concept, its really unique, but also you fail to specify how long itd take for the damage to kick in, how much damage, etc, and if its too long, youre probably killing enemies by then i think it could be played around with, chances for it to proc and defined timers/damage amounts, but overall i feel like it doesnt work too well overall
Yeah, the mistake author made, is that after ressurection, Laz's hp didn't setup at 1, it just get lowered by 1. So, cause most of the time Laz uses it to abuse devil's deals, it's not so entertaining, but fight with Delirium obviously gets better, which is good.
Putting BB's in F is criminal, especially with his devil deal buffs. It's kinda crazy how many red heart containers you can get per run, so having that many more soul hearts to work with is very valuable. Yeah, it's not flashy nor broken like some other birthrights, but being able to turn a Breakfast into a Brimstone with his conversion rates is not something to scoff at, especially in runs with binge eater. Tl:dr; health is the most valuable resource, this gives you a lot more of it for a character that usually struggles with a lack of it. C-tier, minimum.
Samson in D is fucking criminal. This will literally carry you through an entire run. If youre not holding onto an IV bag in every samson run youre playing him wrong.
But you have to take so much damage to get that dmg up. And on womb and further you have to take 10 hearts of damage. And somehow regain that health back, and it's pretty hard
@@mcsimik3654 Hearts are common, and there's a lot of ways to damage yourself that you can recover from. 14 damage even just for the first 6 floors is still insane.
you wont find an iv bag every run, sadly, and you wont have the health for it all the time either you can run into enemies or hazards but especially when youre at the point of taking full hearts of damage it kind of falls off as a whole hard mode deletes hearts 1/3 of the time and while if youve beat ultra hard you have child's heart for more red hearts, youve still beat ultra hard which means you probably dont need to rely on bloody lust to begin with on samson
@@Toumsters You can guarantee an IV bag in a majority of your runs. If you don't, then you're getting blood bags, which means you've got hefty amounts of red hp. I still use devil beggars and blood machines in womb+ in my runs to get bloody lust up and it works fine. A full heart of damage is bad, but the damage bloody lust gives you is still insane. It falls off, yes, but it's not bad. Furthermore, by that point, your damage has either made the rest of the run smooth sailing, or it has literally saved your run from death. Bloody lust isn't something you rely on, it's something you abuse to make your runs easy and consistent.
cain's birthright also increases your gambling luck even more, stacking with the starting lucky foot, it's basically like having a second and upgraded lucky foot in a sense
Hard disagree with Tainted Lost's ranking. That birthright has saved me so many times. I died to Ultra Greedier at the end of the fight when I did the killing blow but because I had birthright, I revived and got the achievement. Even excluding that, getting to stay in the boss room for say Hush or Delirium is extremely handy as getting kicked out is really bad from the other revives.
yeee I just watched his active items tierlist and, even thought I love his vids, his takes are rlly questionable sometimes lol. Like, Red candle as one of the best actives and stitches in the second to best tier are some that come to mind lol
"The birthright is good, but it won't win you the run. You still need to find the items or luck to make it work." That's the story of Isaac, baby. Just with most other items or synergies. This game is all about items interacting with items to make busted builds. ALSO, I strongly agree that playing T. Cain without external item description on is the CORRECT way to play the game. He's not like what he used to be or Spindown Dice, where it's always guaranteed to obtain the same items every run if only you remembered how the game works. The point of him is that you don't know what items you will craft because it's a different crafting recipe every run (except for a few easy to remember recipes), but you can change the likelihood of finding certain catagories of items with the pickups you put in - like runes = planetariums, black hearts = devil deals, etc etc.
"The problem with Tainted Eden is rolling into an abysmal build" You should try the character 'Isaac' he keeps his items when you get hit, hope this helps
the lazarus birthright is good because if you DO die, you're low on HP and you need a damage boost to survive, if you have rock bottom, it's permanent, which makes it better.
In defense of Apollyon, I had a run once with Birthright and Car Battery. Every time the Birthright procc'd, the second activation would eat the item that spawned and give me free stats. I got enough bonus stats that I was destroying the game by the Womb. Not saying that makes the effect good, but I do love how even extremely niche items can be broken with the right combo sometimes.
You're misunderstanding how Blue Baby's works. It doesn't give you 1 additional soul heart on top of what you get, it converts each red heart container into double the soul hearts. It turns all health upgrades into double their worth.
@@CartoDarko It's literally not what he said, which is more confusing because, yeah, he counted the hearts after raw liver and still was describing what the birthright effect does wrong.
He was wrong about how it works but it still doesn't make it much better. There are very few items that give more than 1 red heart container, and some of the ones that do (like Bucket of Lard and Jupiter) would be questionable pickups regardless. I think the only others aside from those are Raw Liver and The Body.
"Blue baby's birthright gives you a little extra health. Who cares? F tier" "Azazel's birthright does nothing. D tier." That's some interesting logic you've got there Matt.
T. Blue baby did not deserve F tier, I am often in the situation of holding onto poops because I have a butt bomb in my lineup I need to keep in case I need bombs or something like that, and hold has multiple applications besides just holding bombs, so oftentimes my hold isn't free to place a different poop in. Expanding the range by almost like, three times or something, basically guarantees that you'll always have at least one of every poop no problem, with a good chance including holy poops. You're basically guaranteed the combo of creep + holy poop for almost any boss fight without having to hold either of those, saving your hold for bombs. There's a lot of applications and I'm so shocked it got placed in literal F tier
A note for the keeper birthright is that if you go into the knife piece 2 room it disables birthright (obviously) and then doesn’t give the heart back after. I found this out because it killed me
I don't typically like to double comment so I'll include this as a response to my first: No h8 but looking at eve's br as just a stat boost and haunt feels like a downer pov. U are not wrong and in fact I mostly agree but I think the true shine of eve's br is that it removes conditionality - which methinks is the point of br, it should feel like it mitigates the poopoo aspects of the character in question
As far as we can see, you used the crane game a minimum of 18 times without getting an item. The chances of you rolling the 75% chance to not get it 18 times in a row is (if my math is correct) 0.56% chance or about a 1/180 chance of occuring
eves birthright is straight s tier if you ask me because curse of babylon on eve doesnt just do the normal effect it does for other characters, eve actually has a permanent 0.75x damage multiplier unless it is active so not having to carry razor blade and play around your hp just to have *normal damage* is so fucking good
ideas for birthrights i want changed -eve (Murder) spawn 6 crows while on curse -jacob and esau (brotherly rivalry) when jacob kills an enemy, esau gains .75 damage for the room, and when esau kills an enemy jacob gains .25 luck and over cap tears, stacks 6 times
Personal Thoughts on the video Maggy: I think your downplaying maggy's birthright. Having access to even MORE health is handy. Not all builds can one shot god, sometimes you have to get by with just a pretty alright run. And for those runs, I can handle the regular rooms just fine... But the BIG bosses are a different story. When I'm going to fight the hell that is delirium, I appreciate having an extra row of hearts worth in wiggle room. Azazel: there IS one use you missed with Azazel's birthright. And thats that a wider beam means you have the ability to dodge to the left or right of a bullet WHILE still keeping smaller enemies in the beam. That, and the more range you get, the better it becomes. You just have more flexibility to move WITHOUT having to just... Stop damaging the enemy or boss for a second. Still not great but... It is *A* use ig.
I agree with the Esau Birthright, it literally doubles the output of the unique mechanic T. Jacob has, how could it be anything but one of the best ones?
24:37 what if apollyon got an amount of charges returned that was inversely correlated to the item quality? like a refund mechanic to allow you to re void bad regurgitated items?
As for you thinking T. Judas's birthright increases dark arts duration, I'm pretty sure that's what it USED to do. Instead of increasing the range, it tripled the amount of time you stay in Dark Arts for. It got reworked at some point.
Maybe a bit strong but I feel like tainted maggy's birthright could've done something like giving you wafer effect outright or even just the cancer effect (so it'd be like a red heart version of cancer essentially) so it synergizes with maggy's gimmick as its kinda hard to use her gimmick in later floors due to taking a whole heart of damage compared to earlier floors
Judas's Birthright is one of the coolest item effects in the game IMO, and the fact that it even stacks with the Book of Virtues if you have both is so sick.
Fun synergy you might have not known for Judas's birthright, if you use Alabastors Box, It spawns 3 Black Hearts and 2 Devil Items (and if you took an angel its two Black Hearts and one Devil Item).
I love t. Lost's birthright for me specifically, because whenever I play t. Lost, I typically get 1 to 2 holy cards for the whole run. And in my 1st dead god doing t. Lost to delirium, the only reason why I didnt get fucked over by delirium was birthright giving me that one extra chance.
35:20 That was the original effect- it was just the same as getting Car Battery, so they replaced it with the current one. Probably part of why people don't appreciate it: same reason they still think Betrayal is a bad item.
Not true, originally T. Judas' Birthright was bugged and did nothing (even after all the unfinished Birthrights were implemented), and people theorized that it was supposed to increase the duration just based off the description. It never actually did, though.
My personal ideas for fixes: CURSED: Replace special room doors with spiked variants GIANT: Add this. LABARYNTH: Make 2x1 or 2x2 variants or special rooms, like shops with bigger item pools and stuff, more value in bigger rooms like shops, secrets, curse, sacrifice ect. MAZE: Weird idea but just make rooms swap more often, changing the door placements with other valid spots for more chaos UNKNOWN: Remove a few of these ui elements: (Id choose like 2) - Health - Pickups - Active charge (Keep white outline while fully charged) - Stats -Pill/Card/Rune slot (Except pocket items) -Item hud maybe? BLIND + LOST: Video smart DARKNESS: Maybe lower isaacs range by a tiny amount and add alternative lights sourses, extra fireplaces in basement, fireflies in downpour, lava cracks in mines, flame eyed skulls in depths, ect. MIST: OUTLANDISH IDEA but, replace all enemies/bosses with ghost vatient, which cannot take dmg from normal means, but have a timer depending on the enemy
A couple of other things about tlaz birthright: Things like rune bag or chad become a lot better since they're always active, and because of flip letting you see more shop items, you have a way higher chance of seeing it.
Mom's locket makes Tainted Magdalene and Tainted Lilith+Birthright much, much better and does in fact give TL+B potential dor infinite clots, especially if you can swallow/hold the magnet in addition to the locket.
you forgot to mention in the video but you can use birthright forgotten to get back into a devil deal or angel room after seeing them on the floor. got into the devil and saw brim in there but you don't have the health? leave the skeleton in there and go min max for hearts got into angel but forgot to get a bomb for the key piece? birthright got you covered
p.s: tainted maggie is f because the non draining health counts towards deals, the draining ones don't. you've now reduced your soul heart capacity by one for no reason!
Eve's birthright is insane, *especially* if you have not dropped razorblade yet, because red heart Eve builds are far more crazy than people expect because normally she has to get rid of them asap. I had a binge eater/birthright/razorblade Eve and you'd think with how broken it was that I would have had every damage up in the game
T. Azazel birthright should be at least an S You can use it more constantly as a defense mechanism since it can reflect enemy tears. With enough tears, you can be untouched by projectiles
Personally, I'd interchange Apollyon and Blue Baby. With Blue Baby, at least the effect is permanent and increases your survivability. With Apollyon, not only is the effect super rare but if you don't already have Void, Birthright does absolutely nothing, which is unacceptable.
9:43 didnt mention that it removes the .75 damage multiplier (minus 25%) from not having WoB active, its basically a damage multiplier. this gives an arguement for eve's birthright being S tier imo
Half of the ranking feels off to me. It seems like some of the effects were graded based on how good they are in general, while others were graded based on how good they are for the specific character. In my opinion, the best way to determine how good something is would be to rank it under the condition: "What if I find Birthright 5 runs in a row on character X?" Isaac, Tainted Cain, and Tainted Keeper are S++ insanely good for them. Tainted Lazarus, however, is not good enough to be S++. It sounds good on paper, but a 25% damage boost is too little to guarantee a free win or to significantly change his playstyle. In my opinion, this should be in A tier, maybe S. In no world is Tainted Jacob & Esau's Birthright S++ like, I don't care how skilled you are; by the time you reach the Womb floors, Esau becomes more of an obstacle than a helpful tool. Even if you're incredibly skilled, this has too much potential to screw you over to be S++. At best, this should be A tier. The Lost and Tainted Isaac are fine in the S tier. The effect for Judas is actually very interesting, but if we're talking about usefulness, I think it should be in A tier. Yes, the Book will give you more damage if the item you take has more than 3 charges, but it will also require more charges to activate. This is good compared to most of the effects, but if we rank it based on the character, A tier seems more appropriate. The effect for Tainted Apollyon is INSANELY GOOD the Locust's damage scales with your own tear damage, and even without any damage ups, this can single-handedly carry your run if you gobble up enough items. Definitely S++. Tainted Forgotten is a strange one it's more comfortable if you have it, but there aren't that many situations where it makes a huge difference, except for Delirium or maybe the body duded that spawn the yellow spider enemies. They are annoying to fight without Recall's effect, so A tier sounds better to me (you can argue for S tier if you provide more situations where it would make a big difference with/without the item). Eve, Tainted Judas, and Keeper are solid for A tier. The effect on Eden sounds cool, and the fact that it ignores item weight is good too, but it doesn't take quality into account. You have the same chance to get any of the 722 items in the game. If there were no quality 0 or 1 items in the spawn chance, it would be great something like Sacred Orb's effect being applied would be very cool-but as it stands, the effect should be in C tier. (Actually, I initially thought B tier was a better option, but after typing this out, I've moved it to C.) The effect for Jacob & Esau is not great-there's a chance of it being really good, but most of the time, it's just okay. You can purposely take some of the mediocre items and only get basic tear and damage upgrades, which would be cool to have on both characters. However, the situations where you take it after a good Angel/Devil deal item or any other good item aren't good enough to justify A tier. I think B tier would be better. Moving to B tier, I think Tainted Azazel, Tainted Eden, Tainted Lilith, and Tainted Samson are fine here. Let's start with the effect for Cain: having better arcades not only on the 2nd floors but on all floors (except the Chest/Dark Room) has too much potential to be in B tier. Even if you get the item on D2, you can make so much with the next 3 arcades that you'll encounter. A tier. The Forgotten has a really cool and good effect the ability to leave your body in one room and return to it wherever you are can give you a big advantage in a lot of situations. Mostly, you'll be saving a lot of time, which can help you get to Boss Rush and Hush. You can also avoid taking damage in bad situations by teleporting back to your body. Also, being given the ability to move freely is huge when you need to dodge in any room in general. A tier (maybe even S). In C tier, Magdalene, Lazarus, and Tainted Bethany are fine. For Lilith, just having Incubus in front of you makes her so much better and more enjoyable to play, basically removing the most annoying part of the character: having him trail behind you. Just for this, I think she deserves to be in B tier next to the Tainted version. Having a 50% chance to not use soul hearts when you activate your active item is huge for Bethany (it would be huge for any character, really). Even a half-decent active item would be great with this effect, allowing you to spam a lot of actives without worrying about managing charges. B tier. I can't actually speak to Tainted Eve, as I've never had the item on her and can't really rank it. But based solely on footage and reading the effect, I think it should be even lower, in D or maybe even F it looks super useless. Having Apollyon and Tainted Magdalene in D tier sounds good. As for the others, Samson is really cool and useful. The only requirement to get a lot of damage for the floor is to get hit, which can easily be achieved with something like IV Bag, which you can get in almost every run. Let's say you go for Angel Rooms, which are generally better than Devil Rooms-you'll have enough health to use IV Bag. I'm thinking A tier for this one. Tainted Azazel's effect makes your laser thicker, but it's not doing much beyond just looking cool. The benefit from this extra width is so meh. This D tier feels forced when you look at what's in F tier. This effect isn't better than Blue Baby and Tainted Blue Baby's effects. F tier. The F tier ones are fine there could be an argument to move both of them to D and leave Tainted Azazel's effect alone in F, but I'm not sure about these. Maybe Blue Baby for the extra heart could be moved to D, but Tainted Blue Baby's effect is just... existing. So these are the changes I would make. The small ones can be argued to stay in the same tier as mentioned in the video, but there are definitely a few that need to be moved up or down by more than 2 tiers.
I remember I commented recommending this way back on a community post and you responded say you would add it to the list. Now it is a video. Nice work Matt 😎
Blue baby birthright rework i thought of: Any Red hearts or half red hearts are replaced with soul hearts And gain 2 extra blue flies for breaking poops
I would bump some down a bit but overall I agree. Personally, I'd like to see a mechanic where you can start with Birthright for one run. Perhaps after Dead God is unlocked and you win 10 runs in a row. That or something akin to Death Certificate but instead of you getting that item now you are guaranteed to get it in the next run.
I would personally put blue baby's higher because i am ridiculously unlucky. I rarely ever get health ups and tinted rocks with blue baby so the extra health is pretty nice
T.Eve belongs in F tier When a decently rare situation happens (A clot dying) you get a chance to heal half a red heart Actually useless, little chad is a better source of health

I've only gotten Tainted Bethany's Birthright once, and it gave me Ipecac, Spirit Sword, Rubber Cement and Lead Pencil which all synergised in such a specific way to make sure it'd kill me. Guppy's Collar revived me five times that run and I still lost.
F. The one time I got Birthright as tainted Bethany, I got rock bottom and sacred heart (don't remember the other 2)

i feel you are SEVERELY underrating t blue baby's birthright, his poops are fucking insane and if played right his damage output can be brutal. it has a definite learning curve and even after getting all his marks i know that i'm still not very good at playing him but his potential cannot be ignored and putting his birthright in f tier is criminal
Maggy birthright is insane. Should be in B tier at least. Red health is so exploitable and having 6 extra heart containers basically guarantees a win, not to mention it gets a lot easier to maintain your soul hearts with high amounts of red health. Samson's is crazy as well. The damage from it is enough to carry an entire run and there are so many ways of getting a lot of red hearts, including the trinket he starts with
For the maggy the fact is that is pretty rare that you will need 6 extra hearts
exactly, red health is basically another form of currency, so getting an extra 6 hearts worth of it counts for more than this guy thinks
When you find birthright and you have a bad build, you can just find a fire and reroll your current build until you find something strong.
i think the only one close to F tier would be tainted jacob's and even then i dont actually know if its secretly incredible
That's player specific, but chances are that if you know how to deal with and use Dark Esau, you can do just as well with 2 of them. And if you can do that you have double the power. I can't speak from experience because I have only 2 marks on Tainted Jacob. (Beating it lives and beating boss rush)

47:51 T. Lost runs aren’t lost because of bad builds, it’s because YOU HAVE NO HEALTH. Don’t have to flex your youtuber powers.
Also here’s an idea for ???’s birthright that you consider bad.
Blue baby: “Asphyxiate”
Enemies hit by your tears will gain an effect called Asphyxiation. Asphyxiation will first gradually slow the enemy, then apply confusion, then start dealing rapid damage.
Dark. I like it
i mean, theres a reason itd be considered bad
i love the concept, its really unique, but also you fail to specify how long itd take for the damage to kick in, how much damage, etc, and if its too long, youre probably killing enemies by then
i think it could be played around with, chances for it to proc and defined timers/damage amounts, but overall i feel like it doesnt work too well overall
Laz birthright is so good tf, its just an added bonus to something you're always gonna do
Yeah, the mistake author made, is that after ressurection, Laz's hp didn't setup at 1, it just get lowered by 1.
27:33 another matt casualy flexing his youtuber luck by getting 1/2048 chance of using item for free for 11 TIMES
I was thinking the same
Math does not work like that
Samson in D is fucking criminal. This will literally carry you through an entire run. If youre not holding onto an IV bag in every samson run youre playing him wrong.
IKR like double blood lust damage in the same tier as azazel had me punch the air
But you have to take so much damage to get that dmg up. And on womb and further you have to take 10 hearts of damage. And somehow regain that health back, and it's pretty hard
@@mcsimik3654 Hearts are common, and there's a lot of ways to damage yourself that you can recover from. 14 damage even just for the first 6 floors is still insane.
you wont find an iv bag every run, sadly, and you wont have the health for it all the time either
you can run into enemies or hazards but especially when youre at the point of taking full hearts of damage it kind of falls off as a whole
hard mode deletes hearts 1/3 of the time and while if youve beat ultra hard you have child's heart for more red hearts, youve still beat ultra hard which means you probably dont need to rely on bloody lust to begin with on samson
14:44 Never seen a Queen of Hearts not fully heal a character with 2HP
With ???'s birthright, it turns converter into a 3 room heal, since the red heart it gives turns into 2 soul hearts
Hard disagree with Tainted Lost's ranking. That birthright has saved me so many times. I died to Ultra Greedier at the end of the fight when I did the killing blow but because I had birthright, I revived and got the achievement. Even excluding that, getting to stay in the boss room for say Hush or Delirium is extremely handy as getting kicked out is really bad from the other revives.
so many L takes in this video QWQ
it feels like he's gotta remember not everyone is insanely lucky in this game 😭
yeee I just watched his active items tierlist and, even thought I love his vids, his takes are rlly questionable sometimes lol.
Except for the knife. You can literally just pick the knife up and beat the game without picking up a single other item
"The problem with Tainted Eden is rolling into an abysmal build"
You should try the character 'Isaac' he keeps his items when you get hit, hope this helps
Bro why you shame isaac players who aren't mega good at the game??? Let people be duh
I love how on T Jacob and T Lost tiers you boil them down to “well if you are a gamer that’s the right place” lol
the lazarus birthright is good because if you DO die, you're low on HP and you need a damage boost to survive, if you have rock bottom, it's permanent, which makes it better.
Matt trying not to Say "fellas" for more than 1 minute Is apparently the challenge that he'll never beat
Dude blue baby is atleast high a tier. Don't dog on my boy
It's a skill issue
How does disliking an item that gives *more health* a skill issue
In defense of Apollyon, I had a run once with Birthright and Car Battery. Every time the Birthright procc'd, the second activation would eat the item that spawned and give me free stats. I got enough bonus stats that I was destroying the game by the Womb.
Not saying that makes the effect good, but I do love how even extremely niche items can be broken with the right combo sometimes.
You're misunderstanding how Blue Baby's works. It doesn't give you 1 additional soul heart on top of what you get, it converts each red heart container into double the soul hearts. It turns all health upgrades into double their worth.
He knows
@@Sans_lol. Not according to this video, since he said how it works wrong for the entire entry.
that is what he said? shown by him picking up raw liver and getting 4 soul hearts
Bethanys birthright seems amazing, I would definitely rate it higher than an upgraded arcade from cain
A note for the keeper birthright is that if you go into the knife piece 2 room it disables birthright (obviously) and then doesn’t give the heart back after. I found this out because it killed me
Hate that fucking knife piece 2 area so much

No h8 but looking at eve's br as just a stat boost and haunt feels like a downer pov.

Personal Thoughts on the video
Maggy: I think your downplaying maggy's birthright.

Why do my friends who don't have Dead God get mad at me when I say this :(
It’s good, dark Esau isn’t hard to control if you take a minute to learn him.
I personally see Maggie's birthright as "you can have 6 more *broken* hearts" and go ham on any broken heart item
100% agree. BoV is one of my top 5 favorite items easily, Judas's birthright is just a new version of the BoV, with its own unique synergies.
Fun synergy you might have not known for Judas's birthright, if you use Alabastors Box, It spawns 3 Black Hearts and 2 Devil Items (and if you took an angel its two Black Hearts and one Devil Item).
Hot take for Azazel's: Range ups lowkey become insane assuming you don't come across brimstone
If I was making a tainted Bethany birthright, I would make it so your 4 highest quality lemegeton wisps become permanent items.
Wait, doesn't dying as Lazarus just decrease your max HP by one? Does it also lower your current HP to 1?
You should have honestly tried Apollyon birthright with more than one item. Depending on how it's programmed having more items may increase the odds.
ranking birthright over birthright is nasty work. birthright mad underrated
Your reasoning is really inconsistent
Found someone saying this finally
not saying fellas for a minute challenge (impossible)
27:30 I don't think we're appreciating how insane it is to get 11 coinflips in a row
My personal ideas for fixes:
CURSED: Replace special room doors with spiked variants
GIANT: Add this.
LABARYNTH: Make 2x1 or 2x2 variants or special rooms, like shops with bigger item pools and stuff, more value in bigger rooms like shops, secrets, curse, sacrifice ect.
MAZE: Weird idea but just make rooms swap more often, changing the door placements with other valid spots for more chaos
UNKNOWN: Remove a few of these ui elements: (Id choose like 2)
- Health
- Pickups
- Active charge (Keep white outline while fully charged)
- Stats
-Pill/Card/Rune slot (Except pocket items)
-Item hud maybe?
BLIND + LOST: Video smart
DARKNESS: Maybe lower isaacs range by a tiny amount and add alternative lights sourses, extra fireplaces in basement, fireflies in downpour, lava cracks in mines, flame eyed skulls in depths, ect.
Samson is lower than Cain..... Yeah I dont know why I tried. This guy never knows what hes talking about
An underrated aspect of eves birthright is that you won't have to worry about eves lower damage multiplier
Azazel's birthright also causes full brimstone to become wider.

got into the devil and saw brim in there but you don't have the health? leave the skeleton in there and go min max for hearts

Bro if you picked binge eater who the fuck cares about birthright as eve. Binge eater just carries the entire run by itself
Maggy birthright could be insane with the item that drops your health to half a heart tbh
27:30 I cannot believe I just watched Matt casually win 11 coin flips in a row as an example (1 in 2,048 or a ~0.05% chance)
T. Azazel birthright should be at least an S
You can use it more constantly as a defense mechanism since it can reflect enemy tears. With enough tears, you can be untouched by projectiles
36:31 You’ve clearly never waited in line for the newest Apple iPhone amirite fellas
In my opinion, the best way to determine how good something is would be to rank it under the condition: "What if I find Birthright 5 runs in a row on character X?"
Isaac, Tainted Cain, and Tainted Keeper are S++ insanely good for them.
Nice work Matt 😎
the fact that you got tech X as maggy is crazy
The amount of money you spent for that tarot cloth was insane
Blue baby birthright rework i thought of:
Any Red hearts or half red hearts are replaced with soul hearts
And gain 2 extra blue flies for breaking poops
I would bump some down a bit but overall I agree. Personally, I'd like to see a mechanic where you can start with Birthright for one run. Perhaps after Dead God is unlocked and you win 10 runs in a row.
That or something akin to Death Certificate but instead of you getting that item now you are guaranteed to get it in the next run.
I would personally put blue baby's higher because i am ridiculously unlucky. I rarely ever get health ups and tinted rocks with blue baby so the extra health is pretty nice
34:00 I use external item descriptions for conveniency, but when I play T. Cain, I hide the recipes because it just ruins the randomess
Blue baby is better than Maggie
T.Eve belongs in F tier
When a decently rare situation happens (A clot dying) you get a chance to heal half a red heart
Actually useless, little chad is a better source of health
Tainted Apollyon is unironically one of my favorite characters, nice to see some respect
