  • In this video, I talk about my thoughts on Season 34 of The Amazing Race, which I found to be a largely lackluster season though somehow this still ended up being my longest The Amazing Race review.

    This season was weird in terms of quality, because there's not really anything wrong with it. The cast was likable, the tasks were fun, the Scramble was one of the best twists in years and it's always just cool seeing new content from TAR. But there's nothing special about it either. There's little to no drama, no all-time great teams and only one standout episode, the Iceland leg. I'd probably rank it #17 out of 34, because it's not bad, but it's the definition of forgettable. Hopefully they bring back some of the former elements for 35 and it's a lot better.

      I totally agree with this feeling 99.9%, and long time no see! Decent cast in general albeit underwhelming (Rich & Dom are still my faves this season despite their 3-leg showing), but the tasks I felt were very bare this time around compared to other seasons. Even last season had a slightly better course in terms of task style diversity. The fact they reused the natural waters obstacle course again in Iceland tells me all that I need to know. Also, the editing was predictable. I knew Derek & Claire won by the time the editors had them explaining their strategies in nearly every leg starting from Jordan. It was as if they were kissing up to them.

    As a Huge Dx fan from bb23 i was so hype to see them win and watching their weekly RUclips recaps made watching them on the show a lot more fun and they’re such good people.

    I thought it was a very bare bones season to be quite honest. Way too many choreography and linguistic-styled tasks. Italy held the beginning together. Jordan was great at times, but I felt like the tasks could've been way better (learn the Arabic alphabet... like, make them actually communicate in Arabic please) than what they thought were a good mix. The last couple legs pushed though. Iceland was spectacular despite the reused RB, lots of potential placement changes and between-task racing moments. Nashville's final memory task - cream of the crop right there.

    I was so glad Baby D and Clarie won. I don’t really understand the angst of them having their chance…. Different show. Watched their weekly breakdown show and really enjoyed them breaking things down. I would have enjoyed the show too if the Twins had won because they had a cool story and were really a force to be reckoned with.

      Thank you! 👏🏽We've had multiple BB crossover teams... MULTIPLE with a capital M on the race before, winners even. I don't get what the fuss is about. This isn't some new concept that just appeared out of the blue. They have a fair shot at winning just as the people who've never been on TV before. Brenchel raced 3 times, 4 if we just count Rachel. Jeff & Jordan did it. Cody & Jessica won whereas Alison from BB4 were one of the first out of their seasons.

    It’s a passable season. No teams seemed salty or pissed at another. No teams were really not worth rooting for. I think it falls in the inoffensivable low middle tier of a season.

    I have a suggestion for a Survivor recast video: A Season where players who were voted out 1 vote before joining the Jury are brought back; from Season 1 Borneo this would be Gretchen, & in Season 43 this would be Dwight. In a cast of 18, this would mean about 2/3 of them do better then they did the 1st time they played since 7-10 would be on the Jury & 3 would make it to the end. Plus, as a personal note, I have always wondered what's worse on Survivor; being the 1st person out or being the person who got voted out 1 vote before joining the Jury since either way you don't get to experience being on Survivor for the whole Season, so maybe some of them might talk about this.

    I know my opinions of TAR are like 50% different. I am in favor of the departure times because even if you finish 3 hours behind everyone in the 30s you still be on the same flight/train as everyone else (Kaylynn & Haley), so I enjoy how the teams aren’t starting the leg all at once. Also I like Non-Elimination legs. I think it’s nice to see 1 or 2 a season, as some teams you don’t wanna see go, and when you get surprised (unlike leg 5 this season) it’s enjoyable. I hated the fact that Phil told teams leg 5 was gonna be a non-elimination at the start. That was so dumb, as it made the episode brag without the suspense. I think the Mega leg is meh… I wish they would just do the No-Rest leg as ending with Phil surprising teams that the next leg is already starting is 100% better than teams already knowing that it’s 2 legs in 1 at the start.

    • @francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep
      @francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep Год назад +1

      I have liked non-elimination legs to a certain point... but I have grown tired of the Speed Bumps. They used to feel ingrained with the vigor of the race. Ever since season 22 when the adrenaline edit was noticeably downplayed, they have been just there and not added anything valuable to future seasons. Rather, they took away time that could have improved teams' story arcs and added funny or memorable moments. I like the compromise of Mega Legs replacing non-elims, but I agree, the moment Jaime & Cara arrived at the Beijing Mega Leg in season 14 was iconic. I miss the surprise of them still having to race and Kisha & Jen in the next leg grateful of their second chance.

      @@francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep yes! I actually wouldn’t mind there not being a penalty for being last on a Non-Elimination. I mean the Mega leg and No-Rest leg don’t have penalties for being last. I think the departing by yourself 15 minutes behind the second-to-last group is fine!

      @@landonmillwood180 I'm not a fan of having these group departures in a regular commercial-flight-allowed season. Equalizing two teams when one arrives 20 minutes later is awful. I still like the 12-hour rest periods or whatever they do to have teams leave at their check-in intervals.

    While I love the concept of the scramble (which would only ever work on a first or penultimate legs really) and the concept of having no non-elim legs, the game is now hindered by teams not being able to source and book their own flights and an over reliance on self driving instead of taking weird forms of local public transport
