Absolutely correct. This was 100% the fault of the league for forcing the Canucks to play before they were in game condition, all game long they had players who were stuck on 2 and 3 minutes shifts because the team just didn't have energy to play at full effort or to exert themselves to get off the ice, it was entirely predictable just injuries would result. But hey, NHL needs them to play a full season, and needs them to do it right now it seems, I guess money, right?

That was like a week after he returned from a suspension for the same thing on a different player, but anybody who targets an injury for no reason deserves far more than the ‘Department of We Suspend Guys Sometimes’ will ever give out.Though he’s also the only player that I know of who decided to lick an opponent... twice.

Now is the time where players from the teams that won't make the playoffs start taking out key players from the top tier teams. They also start running goalies. They'll go out of their way to potentially end a player's career and they have no problem doing so. Look at Brad Marchand. He does this every year and yet he still gets to play. Look at when Todd bertuzzi took out Moore and broke his neck. More couldn't play ever again but bertuzzi still was able to play in the NHL. It's bull sh#t. If a player breaks another players leg on purpose where he is out for the rest of the season, than they should be out as well

I’m gonna first say that I am PROBABLY WRONG AND BIASED, as a Canucks fan, since all the experts seem to agree that this is worth 5 and a game, and I am looking for someone to explain to me where I am wrong. Here’s what I see:
    1. Edler is lined up to hit Hyman into the boards.
    2. Just prior to the collision, Hyman jumps away from the boards, in an attempt to avoid the hit.
    3. Edler’s position does not change in the time between Hyman’s jump and the collision.
    4. If Hyman hadn’t jumped, as far as I can tell, there would be little to no knee contact.
Again, I acknowledge that there is at least one mistake in my understanding of the play, and am hoping someone can explain to me what my mistake is.

I honestly don't believe this is 5 and a game. Yes, it is clearly a penalty, but this was not nearly as egregious as Kadri on Ovi a few years ago and that only got two minutes.

Not to mention Edler didn't move his feet for a stride or two before Hyman tried to jump out of the way

Embarrassing that nobody did anything. Edler takes out the knee of an important player and everyone just plays on.
The Leafs don’t have that Wolfpack mentality. Their lack of success in the playoffs has always been so predictable because of it. Hyman, Simmonds, Foligno are 3 players who buck the trend but 3/12 forwards isn’t enough.

Confirmed knee where someone is injured should be a minimum five game suspension. FYI this is a pretty common penalty in Europe a lot of European players use it as a technique

Considering that this type of hit ended Cam Neely's career, it should be a closer to ten games.
First offence around ten games, and gets even longer for repeat offences.

Hyman turned into his leg at the last milisecond, Edler cant move his leg out of the way at this point, you can see he was going for a clean shoulder hit when Hyman pussied out and tried to dodge when it was already too late. Hyman caused this collision by turning directly into Elders already planted leg.

@@BrodyCanuck You could see Adler spread both his legs out and you could actually watching point his knee towards the center of the other players legs he intentionally put his leg out to him absolutely no mistake whatsoever I played hockey for 40 years that’s exactly how you do it

@@talentedhypocrite2082 He skated into his leg at the last millisecond, if you've played hockey for 40 years you would know that Edler wouldn't be able to move his leg out of the way at that point, Hyman was already past his leg before he turned into it, Elder looked like he was bracing for awkward impact at that point, the whole situation is Hymans fault for the unexpected turn at the last millisecond. There is a point where there is no avoiding a hit and this was one of those cases, he shouldn't have turned like that, he shouldve just took the shoulder hit
