    .
This video also showcases Kirk's fucking wizard powers. that solo in the middle of the song? That wasn't just playing to the crowd, that's in the studio version as well. Metallica don't bother writing bridges in their songs, they just say "Kirk, Lars, go nuts".

Absolute truth! Went to 2 Day on the Green concerts back in the 80’s when I was a teenager! The first one was: Day On The Green #2: Journey, Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet, Shakin' Street, 415 (July 27, 1980)! The second Day on the Green was: Day On The Green #2: Foreigner, Loverboy, Scorpions, Iron Maiden (July 18, 1982). Loverboy and Scorpions had a little “battle of the bands” going for a bit. Both on stage and us fans went wild! It was freaking awesome!! Took my son’s cousin to see Metallica in St. Louis, around 1996/97 because he was the only one that liked them as much as I did!! Then around 1998 went with a friend and her husband to OzzFest, with Rob Zombie, Ozzy and NIN (nine inch nails). My last Rock Concert was The Hu in St. Louis in October 2019! I was going to see them again in Kansas City but this virus crap hit!! Waiting to get word on The Hu and new touring dates!!!

For the people saying “this was likely more around 500,000”, I’ve been to sports parades with over a million people in one area, I’ve been to Times Square on New Year’s Eve, I’ve seen it from aerial views. Look at this video again, look out at that crowd. I know the quality isn’t the greatest, but look at how far back the sea of people goes. Now look at how WIDE it is and how tightly packed all those people are. There is not a chance in hell there were less than 1 million people there for Metallica’s set. I’d argue the 1.6 million estimate is pretty damn close to what you see in those videos. Most people are gonna stay for the big bands, and Tushino airfield is absolutely massive and could easily hold that many people

The crazy part about this. it's not the biggest concert ever. This concert has an estimated crowd size of 1.6 million. So for head bangers it's the biggest heavy metal crowd ever but not the largest crowd, this show was in 1991. And at the time it was the largest but just 3 years later in 1994 Rod Stewart broke this record by doing a free concert event, in Rio for the poor which drew 3.5 million. try to imagine that number.

I had a VHS documentary on it called "For Those About To Rock" If you think this is wild check out Creeping Death from the Concert , or a different band Pantera - Domination. Heaviest breakdown in metal. When it hits take Wu-Tang's advice and protect ya neck , 'cause that drop will give a headbanger whiplash.

I agree about "Creeping Death" Moscow '91 show! 1.6 million Russians chanting "DIE, DIE, DIE" is indescribable. Even though it's unlikely that they knew what the word meant, given that it was right after the fall of communism in Russia so English wasn't likely to be a language that most of them had been exposed to, it's still crazy to see/hear.

What a great reaction from you from one of my favorite bands when I was growing up.
I'm in my 30's so I was born in the 80's and I grew up to all of this outstanding music of so many genres. Since I am a singer and a musican I like pretty much every single genre of music except for bluegrass. Lol!
I have a great appreciation for all music and I could recommend hundreds or talented artists and bands from both my era and even before. Because I have an old sould and grew up listening to music popular in my mother and Grandmothers time.
From my Grandmother, there was her heartthrob Elvis Presley, for my mother is was Paul McCarthy and later Stevie Ray Vaughn and Bon Jovi whome she also got to meet and get their autograph. And she still listened to the Beatles even while I was growing up. And she also loved Michael Jackson. So I guess it was destined for me to carry a flame for them both all my life. Im a HUGE Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson fan. Seriously Im a bigger fan and am more obsessed with their music than even my Mom and Gran. Lol! I even collected all of their music. Even Elvis Presleys Gospel music I will be singing too.
I grew up on alot of Country music and Southern Gospel and Rock but I have an appreciation and love for other music as well.
And the thing about some of these rappers or hard rock bands or heavy metal bands that I listened too back on the day. Alot of them had a very strong message kind of like Rage Against the Machine.
By the way, if you like this song then you will also like their song called "Bulls On Parade".
And think about the title of their name. They are RAGE "against" the MACHINE. What is the machine?
Whtat do you think that stands for.
Many think the Machine is the Government and those in High Power. And with that in thought. You start to understand their message and how perfect their band name was for them.
And many wonderful things can be said for the band Metallica as well. Some so called fans only know their Sandman song. But their devoted fans like myself who has had the pleasure to see them in live concert knows EVERY SINGLE SONG they sing. And people are missing out on alot of good songs from them. They have strong messages in alot of their music as well. I would suggest watching the lyric video to understand what the lead singer is saying. But then go back and check out their video. But the thing about Metallica is they sounded so freaking awesome in a live concert. They DID NOT lip sync. And the lead singers vocal range and pitch was off the charts and mind blowing.
Listen, Ive been to alot of concerts, and so has my husband. Weve seen Limp Biscuit, Alice n Chains, Megadeth, Elton John, Ronnie Milsap, Jason Aldean, Luke Combs, Back Street Boy's lol! Nsync, Britney Spears back in the day, The band Alabama, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Eminem, Beyonce, Brooks and Dunn, Nickleback, 3 Doors Down, Savage Garden, Matchbox 20, Blinkn182, Green Day and that is not even all of them we have see thoughout all of these years. Cause we remember when alot of these artist first came out over 20 years ago.. Ive been following Beyonce since she was in Destinys Child and I saw their first song on MTV TRL.
But out of all of them concerts. Metallica was the BEST CONCERT OF MY LIFE!
If somebody told me I had 2 choices, that I could have free tickets for life to see any other artist or band in the world except for Metallica.
OR I could have concert tickets for only 1 concert and not ever get to go to another concert ever again.
I would most definately choose the one coccert with Metallica. Because they are THAT good in a live perfoemce. The lead singers voice is off the charts and he spunds even better live then on his records. And he is only 57 years old and he looked pretty hot and bad a** when I saw him in concert in 2018. And their guitar and drum playing was insanely great too. There was people of all ages even as young as 8 years old jamming along to Metallica.
So that is why Im always trying introduce people to my era of music and them "Hey! You should check out a very iconic moment of history live concert performance Metallica did in Moscow in 1991 when the lead singer was 28 years old and they sang the Sandman song. There was 1.6 million people there present at that concert. And they had helicopters hovering over the multitude of crowds to keep the air flowing around the crowds.
Sadly a little over 50 died that day.
There was soldiers there as well."
You should look this up online. You will find more info on it.

Yes there's quite literally over 1.5 million people that showed up. This was during the fall of communist Russia, more specifically the USSR, shortly after the Berlin Wall came down. It was the first time Russia had opened itself up and allowed something like this. The Russian people were starved for entertainment, any kind of entertainment, to let loose for a few hours. It was the Monsters of Rock festival that included several of the biggest bands at the time, including Metallica, Pantera, and AC/DC.
