This is facts. It seems like a pickup game with your buddies and if guys get blown by they just kind of let them get a layup. There is no effort anymore and to me it’s more entertaining to watch college ball
The reason ratings are down is that streaming games illegally is more prominent with the nba. Football puts a morning afternoon and evening game on Sundays. Thursday night on prime and espn for MNF. If you have a tv, you have Football games. I have RUclips TV and there are times when multiple fans are on and I don't have access to any.
I usually only catch a few bengals games each season, easy to access and I live nowhere near. I want to watch the Nuggets locally and it’s impossible. I watched a sky cam espn version of the nba cup last night. It’s so weird and trying is just disheartening
Its also so tough to know for casuals when your team plays. The time and day change every game. Tough for casual fans to keep up, and they aren't flipping channels anymore
True, also it's becoming increasingly difficult to take the NBA product seriously with the extent of dodgy ref'ing.....the lax and frankly uneven playing field in the application of fundamental rules of basketball such as carrying, moving screens, travelling and leading arms, aka the Lebron special, coupled with modern spacing (don't get me wrong I love Curry, but his greatness is partly to blame for this) and finally the collusion that went on the in modern era, it's just not a good look and people have noticed for a long time and they just get over the clown show and I suspect the fanbase will continue to drop like flies.
7:10 I think the reason the numbers are so low is because it’s to many networks, and idek where to find half the games and idk why it cost 50 dollars a month just to watch an NBA game it’s not worth it unless your really invested
The nba is “dying” bc a 36+ year old lebron, kd and Steph are being forced down our throats while any new star that gets media attention is slandered because they arent nostalgic or whatever
If they’re comparing it to 2012, the way people watched was a lot simpler then. You just had cable or satellite. Now it’s like a million different streaming services. That’s gotta play a part in it.
The ratings are not down because of streaming. Even if this were the case, it's still bad, at best it'd mean the NBA fanbase is completely stagnant, doing nothing but shuffling its viewers from one platform to another and isn't growing at all, let alone seeing a boom like the NFL and college football are. But how we know it isn't the case is Silver has been having to answer questions about this, to explain the decrease (from the networks that signed huge TV deals with the NBA), and while we don't have access to streaming data, Silver does, so if this were the explanation he'd have said so and not given lame answers like saying how good their numbers are on IG and Twitter, and blaming things like the election, world series and the Paul vs Tyson fight (all these are over and the ratings continue to decrease btw).
NBA Analysts, especially ESPN, continually saying the only thing matters is a Championship and that the regular season means nothing, is a primary cause for fans not caring. If the media that live from NBA coverage continually tell the fans that games don't matter, it has a devastating effect on the fans. I find it so disrespectful anytime an NBA analysts says the only thing that matters is a championship.
The League is not dying, it's doing very well around the rest of the world just not so much in the US via the traditional ratings system. The league just signed a massive new TV deal regardless .
People blew that shit out of proportion. It was the most mild "trash talk" ever. The grizzlies were good for one season and had confidence and everyone immediately hated on them.
I think people stopped watching nba because of politics. You can’t trash half the country and expect people to tune in. Popovich just went on a rant, LeBron has said some very ignorant things and it’s just pushing people out. I don’t think it’s stars I believe players coaches take focus away from the game. It needs to be about the game not your political views agenda of feelings.
The NBA will not let any young stars get more attention that LeBron. Look at the nationally televised games. All old guard. Sure there are some talented older players in the league, but you have to start highlighting the younger generation if you want to keep the ball moving forward. The NBA built their entire brand around LeBron, and now they are stuck with him as his play and popularity decline. LeBron and the Lakers have been a huge disappointment, and yet LeBron and the Lakers is all the media and NBA will talk about. The NBA and LeBron created the current situation we are in.
I don't get people saying all of the shenanigans are bad for the league, to me that's what makes it entertaining, kobe and jordan were trashtalker too we tend to forget it
If a breakdown vid I saw of the Grizzlies is anything to go by, if Ja gets hurt again, they’ll be okay. The Grizzlies have the LOWEST Pick & Roll usage in the entire league by nearly 40%. In a league in love with the 3 ball by using pick & rolls to get open looks - the Grizzlies are being more efficient with what they’re doing. Instead of Pick & Rolls, they use their superior Athleticism to force double teams or get layups at the rim and do that within 7 seconds. They’re shooting higher percentage 2-pointers, while still finding those open 3-balls when there, all while having a higher pace offense that is even faster then the 8 seconds or less Steve Nash Suns. Their offense has caused issues for older teams like the Lakers & Warriors. Whether this will result in a championship is still up in the air, but I think they’ve found something that could shake up the league if it does.
Mark my words, the moment Ja removes the colorful dreads, his attitude will improve SIGNIFICANTLY. It just feels like his last futile attempt to act gangster
Tbh, you can't really name any one reason as to why the NBAs ratings are down. To me, it's everything that's causing the ratings drop, and Adam Silver really isn't doing a whole lot to fix it.
ratings are down because people that actually want to watch just illegally stream the games. i am not going to pay money to watch basketball unless i'm physically there. most people i know are the same
The main reason the nba is declining is because tickets cost too much money for the avg fan. And second because no has tv nowadays and if you do no is paying for the extra sports packages nowadays either.
I love this channel but this video is BS. Nothing wrong with a little attitude during a game. Jordi is soft. Each game should feel like a war if you want ratings to go up. We want a respectful and competitive game but we're not here just for sports. We want to be entertained. Get rid of fighting in hockey if we're all just here for sports then. It all started going downhill when they banned Mutumbo from doing the finger wag at players
I think the ratings drop is also due to stars like KD and LeBron, to a lesser extent, changing teams so often. Magic, Larry, MJ, Kobe, Duncan and Steph all stayed with their teams for 95% of their careers. Even things like teams having multiple uniforms might hurt, 3-4 this year and switching alternates or city uniforms every year. You can't just flip the "channel" and immediately know who is playing by the jerseys. There are also too many games, especially for today's "immediateor "highlight" culture. Stars are missing a lot of games. If we only had two per week and each team playing twice, that might go a long way. /Rant
