Out runners are pretty efficient too for crawler apps! They stay pretty cool and are put down quite a bit of torque with a good balance of power. I think they sound kinda cool too! Great video a truck my friend!👊🏼😎💯
well ive done the same to mine ,it took some doing , had to heat up the pinion to drill it out to accept the brushless shaft. drill out/enlarge the motor mount holes and even had to reduce the length of the pinion grub screw but its now brushless just need a couple of 3s batteries to fit under the hood!
Alot of great outrunner options out there. 9imods paired with rhino 80a esc all do as good as the top name $$$ stuff. Another channel based in California does some lengthy reviews. His yard is a crawler course. You never see his face. And his mad crazy into crawling.
There's a great amount of choice these days, yes! I was pleasantly surprised how well this little cheapie worked. I'm going to try a few more of those bigger units as you described. I wasn't sure how well the smaller ones would go but so far it's been great.
Can't use the original radio because the receiver is an all in one brushed esc. Needed a brushless esc, which means a different radio. In this case it's simply a cheap FS-A3 and one of my GT5 transmitters. Great combo! Thanks for the sub, good to have you 😊
Nice baby capra.. how'd you mount the outrunner to the motor plate? I had that outrunner, had to use 1 screw and hot glue it on the other side cos the holes does not aligned.
That thing is cool. But is there a way to drop the suspension down 20-30 mil? Or 1/2"-3/4" to put the tops of the tires level with the top of the hood or close to it while at ride hight?
I've got quite a few old drones I've been thinking of stealing there motors for a while I'll put that in line for project number 12 haha thanks for the vid mate😃
@@RCTNT there all around 1900kv I believe but have threaded shafts so modification there I wonder how they would go with the original ESC ... otherwise I'll try a hobbywing 1080 gotta love the hobby like leggo as a kid..wow I can build anything!😃
Just filling the shaft flat on one edge would do it. Can't use the 1080, that's a brushed esc. I did link an ESC or two in the description I'm pretty sure, but if not, hw 30A mini brushless is ok for 1300kv and lower on 3s, or it might handle your 1900kv on 2s - check your motor spec for max current draw. Holmes mini brushless also is good. Castle mini brushless something something as well, plus the rhino ESC that's popular atm.
@@RCTNT duh wasn't thinking...do have an 80 amp but probably bit big I'll try the ones in the drone think there only about 25amp the shaft is huge like 6-7 mm so will need an adaptor be an interesting project even if it doesn't work
Ah right. The only problem with that is you only get forward. No reverse. I guess you could hook two up, one with a signal reverse adapter, then a y-harness on the motor wires. That would give you both. Though, no drag brake. Heh
It can be made silent with a drone ESC but then you'll hear all the gears grinding because it's too quiet LOL, I ended up switching my gearbox back to plastic gears haha
I'm actually looking into the bare minimum options now, but I'm running a mamba micro. I've got some more basic ESCs on the way, as I'd like to see just how little can be spent for an effective brushless upgrade for this rig.
Drone ESCs are better suited to drive outrunners imo, also higher PWM frequency 24Khz+ so it's inaudible, nowadays BLHeli_32 ESCs can be flashed with AM32 firmware for very low end control/no cogging and noise free
That's exactly what I'm now running 😎 Quiet at last! See my latest utb18 video to see an overview of what I've done with it. She's a truly capable comp rig now!
I am a big fan of the control. But that sound?? Not sure if I would be able to deal with it. lol Congrats on 2 years in btw. Been a subscriber for a while now. I still watch Seven Welt as well who was your first comment. Good luck going forward/ :P
The firmware may be something that can bet modified. I'll look into that. Thank you very much for travelling with me :) And I feel silly now but I never thought to check if @Seven Welt had a channel! I'll have to go look now!
I don't know what that is, but the 1300kv motor with 15t pinion and stock trans gears works great with 14/27 portal gears up front and some underdrive in the rear diff. I'll have to look those gears up, I'm not familiar!
@RCTNT glad to hear it! Team garage hack make a pinion and spur kit that reduces overall gear ratio so you can run a higher KV motor. That is the TGH reference I made. Happy wheeling!
Seeing that it's actually autumn down under kinda makes me wish it was autumn here. Haha! Thanks for sharing!
I'll swap you
I love that motor Sound... ❤️❤️❤️.. Feels like u really driving something...
Doesn't it just!

Thanks, I've been a fan of outrunners for a long time :) Lovely torquey things aren't they

Nice. I like the Turnigy 450mah 3s ones, they fit perfectly.

hello there. are you using the original radio? great video . subbed!

I like the sound of the motor, sounds so cool.
Quite a polarising thing, that sound! I like it too, but many don't!
Nice baby capra.. how'd you mount the outrunner to the motor plate? I had that outrunner, had to use 1 screw and hot glue it on the other side cos the holes does not aligned.
The holes aligned perfectly. There are two pairs, one is closer together than the other. You may have used the further apart holes, I'm guessing.
That thing is cool. But is there a way to drop the suspension down 20-30 mil? Or 1/2"-3/4" to put the tops of the tires level with the top of the hood or close to it while at ride hight?
Should be doable, yep. Shorter coils, change shock mount point, swap for shorter shocks, etc. Could achieve it in a few ways.
It would take me a bit to get used to that sound- I like it ' it's so different lol like a dang rocket getting ready for takeoff!
It's shrill, yeah! Frequency change on the esc can fix it, but I haven't made the effort yet!
Still deciding which to buy. But I'm curious what tires youre running lol.
Can't buy these! Pin tires cut from voodoo ottsix and glued to old Flat Iron sidewalls
Delrin is a brand acetal is a plastic.sorry couldn't help myself. Still happy i found ya channel 🤙
Thank you! Could have looked that up, didn't. Now I know!

Hello,
Nice interesting video!👍
Nice greetings from Germany!🖖🍀
I mentioned you in my last video, the excavator one. Thank you for the message :)
@@RCTNT I am happy to read that! 😀 Thank you!✨

Nice! Low kv is low kv, yep! If it fits, it should work. Cheers

What ESC are you running in that?
I'm running the Castle Mamba Micro X ESC:
asiate.es/aff?l=208954&i=76070
I like it but it is loud. Great video.
It can be quiet with a different esc. We'll get to that!

Hi mate what esc do you need for this motor

@@RCTNT cool thanks for the reply I’ll wait a bit then till I’ve seen what u come up with

It's definitely not for everyone! Thanks John.
