- Sissel, the international singing sensation from Norway, is widely regarded as one of the finest and most talented sopranos in the world. Her crystalclear voice has made Sissel a national institution in Norway. Sissel has sung all over the world, selling over ten million solo albums. She contributed the haunting vocal tracks for the soundtrack to Titanic. She has been doing great duets with singers like Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Russell Watson, Mario Frangoulis, Josh Groban, Neil Sedaka and Charles Aznavour. A very remarkable voice you will only hear once in your lifetime.
"Angels from the Realms of Glory" is a Christmas carol written by James Montgomery. Its first printing was in the Sheffield Iris on Christmas Eve 1816, though it only began to be sung in churches after its 1825 reprinting in the Montgomery collection The Christian Psalmist and in the Religious Tract Society's The Christmas Box or New Year's Gift.
Before 1928, the hymn was sung to a variety of tunes, including "Regent Square" by Henry Smart, "Lewes" by John Randall, and "Wildersmouth" or "Feniton Court" by Edward Hopkins. In the United States, the hymn is today most commonly sung to the tune of "Regent Square". In the United Kingdom, however, the hymn came to be sung to the French carol tune "Iris" (Les anges dans nos campagnes, the tune used for Angels We Have Heard on High) after this setting was published in the Oxford Book of Carols, except that the "Gloria in excelsis Deo" refrain is sung in place of Montgomery's original "Come and worship Christ the new-born King' refrain.

What a performance. I wish I had found this at Christmas but I will save it in my Christmas album. She is fantastic and you cannot overlook the choir and orchestra. All came together to make a beautiful piece of music in praise of the Lord. I somehow imagine that you can take this performance and multiply it by 100 thousand and it may be how the angels sing in Heaven. It is refreshing to find a talent like Sissel who also sings gospel.

Correction Solveig, no offense :o) - Sissel is better than ANY other soprano. I know quite a few and there is noone I'd rather listen to or look at for that matter.
Sissel doesn't care about fame or glory. You can tell just looking at her, she just loves to sing and that makes her even more beautiful than she already is.

Mr. Russell has said it. I have dear friends from Norway, and I'm not so sure that the realms of Glory do not touch that mystical land. C S Lewis as a youth thought that Heaven here was in the great North.

FYI, this is not Angels We Have Heard on High... This is Mack Wilberg's signature arrangement of "Angels from the Realms of Glory", a masterpiece of orchestral genius, the likes of which comes along a few times in a century (if we are lucky). Ms. Sissel's performance is among the best I've heard, and I've heard most of them.
I was wondering as the tune is quite different in the verses.

Sissel married her partner Ernst Ravnaas in a private ceremony in Hov church in Norway on August 13th. No guests were invited to this ceremony which were held secretly. Our congratulations goes to the newly married couple.

I still maintain my comment Look don't get me wrong here they are all fantastic, But for me if I invite a great singer to my stage to sing the people should hear them more then the backing.. BUT I think your comment is fair, I was not in the Audience AS MUCH as I would have LOVED to be.
