Back in about 1990 my wife's Auntie sent this on tape from Norway. There was no name for the singer, and since then I have been searching for her. My wife's family could not be bothered to find out from her relatives in Norway, and so I have puzzled ever since as to who this beautiful voice belonged to. Such was the impact that I never forgot, and even remembered what she sang, that being Silent Night. Last evening (20 05 2021) I clicked on to someone I had never heard of, and recognised the voice immediately. Imagine finding her after all this time. Over thirty years, and I am so happy.
She really has a choice gift and talent. Pure sweet music with this message of truth brings comfort peace and strengthens our faith and determination to endure life's difficulties.
ACTUALLY, AT 1:20 WHEN SHE SANG THE WORD "PEACE" THAT CONCLUDED THAT STANZA, SHE DIDN'T PRONOUNCE THE ENTIRE WORD, DROPPING THE "CE" JUST SINGING "PEA"... THIS ERROR SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED BY ANOTHER TAKE. NEVERTHELESS, THE PERFORMANCE WAS OUTSTANDING, RIGHT UP THERE WITH THOSE BY KAREN CARPENTER AND DEAN MARTIN.
I agree. This gives me goose bumbs! The most beautiful voice for this old song. Sissel is great, her voice is so versatile and always pleasant sounding.
When I hear this carol I always think of the trenches of the first world war and how sad and tragic for those poor kids frozen to the bone at Christmas and listening to this timeless carol, Their lives hanging by a thread. Sissel's rendition is the best by a mile, brings tears to the eye - beautiful.
i read the comments of the disapprovers who say she can't sing opera.. she never claimed to. she always said she was a middle of the road singer. but that doesn't reduce her in the eyes of those who can hear a remarkable voice and sit back and enjoy it. I don't care if she looked like the back of a bus... she has a voice that makes me forget all pain and be a child again... this is a chance not to be missed... listen and love it.

I have listened to many performances, but this is second to none. Korean singer Sohyang came closest to her and that's all. Sissel is a special level, the only one of its kind.
