Agreed! Sissel is truly the treasure of Norway. I recall when I first stumbled on her in a video. I was floored! Now I may not be from Norway, but my ancestory goes back there. Back to Gunhild Kongemor Gormsdatter my (33rd grandmother) and sister to Harald Blatand "Bluetooth" Gormsson VIII. Despite that 1000 years, truly Sissel's talent and beauty draws my heart to Norway even though its many centuries distant! What a beautiful country! Amazing people, epic history, and stunning natural wonders! Big thumbs up from the USA!
@@jrg4313 Ya, the other female vocalist "greats" have too much vibrato for my ears, and they can't cross over to folk or even pop as Sissel does so beautifully. She has every bit as much control and precision as Flemming or Te Kanawa or Price, but I go mad after 10 minutes of that much vibrato that sounds like they are "hiding behind" while they find the note... Sissel finds the notes more quickly, her voice sounds more like singing and less like crying or screaming with control. I don't know how anyone beats her. Especially outside an opera theater.
I'm a fan too. As for the greatest soprano voice, it will be to each heart to respond. Throughout my life I've fastened to various singers as in my opinion the best but voices change and mature and fade. With RUclips we have at our perusal the life of a whole voice -as in Sissel's case. And she is extraordinary in that the 13 year old we see mimicking Streisand, the 16 year old confidently singing the interlude at the Eurovision does not give a real indication of what she will do 10, 20 years on.
I've been listening to her for 30 years. and the very first time that I heard her I knew right then that she had a very special gift. She has certainly NOT disappointed through these years. She is also a total class act. Incredibly earthy, humble, empathetic. I often wonder if its even possible for this woman to ever become angry. I quite honestly, doubt it. What is so amazing about this set, we are listening to a Norwegian vocalist, singing, mostly American Christmas Carols, in English, accompanied by a Japanese orchestra, in Japan.
she sings in 15 different languages! and speaks English so perfectly she sounds like she was born next door to me here in West Palm Beach. Not only does she have a beautiful voice she also has an awesome brain behind it. The first time I heard her (over 20 years ago now) I was thinking WHERE did this woman come from? That was John Lennon's "Imagine".

It's astonishing what she can do with her voice. By her mid-twenties, her voice had come into its own and so much music was open to her.

Certainly the best living female vocalist. There were others equally good but are sadly no longer with us.
