The only woman I've ever heard singing in German who could sound so beautiful. German is not a romantic language, but she sings with romance, style and grace. Rest in peace, beautiful lady. Thank you for supporting Augusta, Georgia.
Germans created romanticism together with the English William Blake. You don't find German language romantic either because you don't speak it or because you haven't listened to real singers like Ms Norman doing Schubert or many great masters. Learn.
Juan Díaz no actually Germans didn’t “create” romanticism. That was the English and the French. They did follow the tradition and was one of the last to keep it. Either way German has always sounded beautiful to me, in both songs and speech.

Thanks for sharing....yes one of the greatest voices I have heard & a beautiful song...I have listened to her over many years as I am 79yrs old & remember her singing for many important occasions....RIP Jessie 😊❤️
Shubert's version of the Ave Maria is just about my favorite version of the song. Hearing the German Language in sing praise is absolutely beautiful. My son and I sang this version of the song during Easter Season at our church. We were grateful to be able to sing for the Lord and those we worshipped with on that day. Two days later he left for active duty in the US Army.
In a review of a 1992 recital, Edward Rothstein of The New York Times likened her voice to a “grand mansion of sound.” “It defines an extraordinary space,” he wrote. “It has enormous dimensions, reaching backward and upward. It opens onto unexpected vistas. It contains sunlit rooms, narrow passageways, cavernous halls. Ms. Norman is the regal mistress of this domain, with a physical presence suited to her vocal expanse.”
In tears instantly … thank you Schubert for creating the most touching melody. Thank you Jessye Norman for living in a time when your enormous talent could be captured & shared to touch many many hearts .
Perfection personified in her voice. The heavens sat in awe and observed the voice of emotions, existence and tranquility. Time and space sat still momentarily.

The only woman I've ever heard singing in German who could sound so beautiful. German is not a romantic language, but she sings with romance, style and grace. Rest in peace, beautiful lady. Thank you for supporting Augusta, Georgia.
You should listen to Barbara Bonney, she is unbeatable for this piece.
Deutsch ist vielleicht nicht eine Romantische Sprache, aber es ist einfach sehr schon, besonders hier. Danke Frau Norman....💛
Her voice was truly magnificent. R.I.P, Jessye Norman.

RIP Jessye Norman
She was and will remain in our hearts a genius singer forever!
She was a very beautiful singing voice to listen to,may she continue to rest in Eternal Peace🙏🏿🌹
This is what immortality sounds like.
Wow.
We can all hope.
oh my friend, i certainly hope you are right!!!
You said it all, mate.
RESPECT 1000 %
In a review of a 1992 recital, Edward Rothstein of The New York Times likened her voice to a “grand mansion of sound.”
“It defines an extraordinary space,” he wrote. “It has enormous dimensions,
reaching backward and upward. It opens onto unexpected vistas. It
contains sunlit rooms, narrow passageways, cavernous halls. Ms. Norman
is the regal mistress of this domain, with a physical presence suited to
her vocal expanse.”
Our beloved Sister here, have such an amazing voice, She's on the other side of the veil, with our ETERNAL PARENT'S.
In tears instantly … thank you Schubert for creating the most touching melody. Thank you Jessye Norman for living in a time when your enormous talent could be captured & shared to touch many many hearts .
This is such a beautiful performance. Heaven’s choir gained a beautiful voice. May you Rest In Peace Ms. Jessye Norman
Perfection personified in her voice. The heavens sat in awe and observed the voice of emotions, existence and tranquility. Time and space sat still momentarily.
I had the huge privilege to see her singing alive. ❤
