  • Join Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author David Cay Johnston as he discusses "It's Even Worse Than You Think: What the Trump Administration Is Doing to America." Timed to publish around the one year anniversary of Trump’s presidency, Johnston examines the Trump Administration’s first one hundred days and the “termites” that are being appointed to destroy existing government policy and agencies from within - and what that means for the lives of all Americans.

    I have to correct Mr. Johnston on one thing: Germany is buying Trump-related books not because of his family roots; it's because we've seen this stuff before and we're really, really worried.

    • @WOranos

      You should be worried. Merkel has already re-established the gestapo and are currently raiding homes in the dead of night and arresting citizens for speaking freely. Of course, Trump wasn't involved in with that decision. You socialist morons have done it to yourself. Germany is a sterling example of what self-loathing leads to on a national scale.

    Regulations are rules to set boundaries of honesty, when a company says their product is what they say it is then if they create a product that isn't what they say it is, we can see the dishonesty of those creating inferior products and making the same & as the best products.

    • @donnavorce8856
      @donnavorce8856 6 лет назад

      XHALE303 - good question/statement. My thought is that with the abilities we have at hand via internet, social media, zealous scrutiny by both PUBLIC and PRESS, this new and very much more transparent view of our political world and what our public servants are doing, we have come to a point where we can, in real time, see what they are doing. Absolutely there have been serious transgressions by all administrations in the past. But what we have to work with is today onward. It's refreshing to see that scrutiny and I sincerely hope it continues and even grows as the future unfolds. Politics as usual, business as usual, might have come to a screeching halt. It's going to be much more difficult (I hope) to do politically secretive things to the nation and her citizens.

    • @XHALE303
      @XHALE303 6 лет назад +1

      Donna: Zealous scrutiny??? lol, u mean screaming Russia Russia for a year without a shred of evidence?
      So they don't have to talk about the lack of policies or spine with the democons, only whining about style,
      who BTW loved Trump's (permanent) corporate taxcuts, as the 1% are mainly democrats
      or the blackmail with billions by Biden to rig the elections in Ukraine in US favour
      where the US is arming neo Nazi's to fight against the Russians & the NATO's built up on their borders.
      The (proven) collusion with Israel, aswell the Koch brothers, the 134 wars & conflicts the US is involved in,
      or the many US warcrimes, like illegal wars, torture, Gitmo & it's 72 regime changes after WW2 that killed 30mill lives
      The US troops who are still fighting in the Mid East, altho Gaddafi, Saddam & Bin Laden are dead for years
      Obama's 26000 drone strikes that killed 15 civillians & kids on average per strike, that Trump raised with 420%
      the fact that the US supports 73% of all dictator & terrorist regimes, including the 110bill arms deal with the Saudis
      supposably responsible for 9/11 & ISIS, altho claiming to fight a war against terror
      The deals with Iran that US violated & the peacedeals by N.Korea that US rejected every time since the 90s
      or about the police that impounded more wealth for the banks in 2017 then burglars stole,
      & ofcourse not a word about the Taliban who reduced heroin production to zero in Afghanistan in 2003,
      that now holds 85% of the market after the US started ''guarding'' their poppy fields, causing a global drug epidemic
      The deregulations of wallstreet & envoirement protection aswell privitizing infrastructure & public land
      that will cause another crash & polute the drinking water, so Nestle can sell it in bottles 2500 times it's price
      Or the Goldman Sachs swamp global crisis frauds who used to lobby & now are the government
      The 10mill a minute of wellfare to oilcompanies, who kill 7 to 10mill a year due to polution ...THAT scrutiny?
      When they talk about his stupid tweets all day, u can be sure a lot of secretive things will never see daylight
      US doesn't have a free press, only propaganda channels like FOX & CNN that do the war bidding for both parties
      Im not saying it's all fake news, but its NON news, to distract you from the issues that realy matter

    I am a big fan of Mr. Johnston for a number of reasons; not the least of which is that he, with his books gives us as Americans (those of us that realize we have to discuss and argue politics to get back to being a nation of citizens that don’t just adhere to the lowest common denominator of understanding the English language, understanding what is broken in this country and understanding (or at least trying to understand) what we as voting citizens NEED TO DO to stop the madness and keep the country from falling apart in decades versus centuries.
    Now that instead of being “pretty sure” that Drumpf is a complete idiot and a criminal we can be almost 100% sure with evidence that the aforementioned is true we need to start acting on that knowledge. I was very happy that the redux of the Women’s March was not just well attended but that it continued the serious movement towards ending this administration. The only real sad part of this is that Mueller is more likely to make it very obvious that the idiot in chief and all the people he has put in power all over the government are corrupt and inept BEFORE we are able to vote those in control of Congress out. It is maddening that we do not have any expedited way to fix mistakes made in electing someone who is clearly unable to lead us all out of a wet paper bag.
    Let us all hope and pray that we are able to undo most of the damage done in the past year; the sooner the better. I am hopeful as well that this turns into a valuable lesson in mistakes that we won’t repeat in nearly as unilaterally damaging a way in the future. Electing leaders takes thought, and we need to be cognizant of that; to think we as a country had become numb to that realization is truly terrifying.

  • @RobertBrown-eb4co
    @RobertBrown-eb4co Год назад +2

    The greatest hope is that those who are able to think will accept that they have been conned and put aside their shame and embarrassment to recapture the country from the dangerous hangerons of Donald's world. A great exposure of Donald Trump and the damage he and the Republican party are wrecking on the nation. Very interesting and educational. Just my independent opinion.

      Iceland was affected, it was bankrupted completely, but actually forgave the loans of the people. However the Prime Minister had to resign in disgrace as he was implicated in funneling funds in the Panama papers. All economies are linked by a millions threads and totally interdependent. I am all for equality for women, but putting them in positions of power will changed nothing, the system is rotten to the core, its sole function is to maximize profit by treating everything as a commodity, everything has a price value, but no intrinsic value. Nature has no intrinsic value, our lives are absolutely worthless and have no intrinsic value. The will spend hundreds of thousands training and equipping a soldier for war, and nothing on the broken individual that returns.
      There is no shortage of funds for waging war, the man power the investment in cutting technology, the unbelievable logistics are made available, while health care is a utopian burden upon society. There is no answer within the system, no one will save us but ourselves and that does not look likely

    26:11 I've lived with two people with narcissistic personality disorder and David's exactly right. The closest thing you get to a good departure is when they leave to prey on someone they think they can get better advantages from. Trump is the "leader of the free world". Trump is God incarnate to his people, and that's no exaggeration. The problem is that Trump was just being his celebrity-loving, politically incorrect bandwagon-jumping self in his campaign for the Presidency, making every imaginable promise with no plans, and making no apologies no matter how badly they were warranted. And he maintains that basic persona in the White House, even though he contradicts himself and changes his apparent stances regularly. Religion does the exact same things, and the faithful are perfectly content with it. It doesn't matter that God condemned something like divorce in the past; he's cool with it now. It's no big deal if Trump assaulted women in the past; he's saving all Americans including women now. Trump was never interested in appearing humble or gentle but he always truly cared about our country, and he always will. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
    A large part of Trump's base are evangelical and their unwavering adoratoin of him looks exactly the same as it does for their god. The right wing media pundits are their preachers, interpreting for them what is happening in the news like preachers do with the Bible and with events in real time. When Trump does glaringly bad or suspicious things, the preachers/pundits either don't mention it in their sermons/segments, or they discourage followers from even trying to understand--Trump is playing 3 dimensional chess you see, he is many moves ahead of the enemy, and sometimes he moves in mysterious ways. To accept even the worst of Trump is to be just that pious, just that faithful. Why wouldn't people who can believe in and love a god who allows (maybe creates) unbearable sorrow in life also believe in and love a leader who claimed to offer more than any prior ones, even despite offering no details? --Maybe it's BECAUSE OF the lack of details.
    This is the essence of faith. Probably most people would say faith is a positive word but it's really a terrible thing. It is belief so pure that tangible evidence is unneeded, in fact tangible evidence to the contrary cannot be considered. And the greater the leap of faith required, the greater the reward or punishment. Believing in an invisible sky god with magical powers can not only earn you some of that power in life, but also an eternal afterlife of sheer bliss.....the alternative is hardship followed by eternal torture. To believe in Trump is to reach for a 'great again' America; to forsake him is to invite all manner of ruin, including letting in people from shithole countries and allowing America to become one, itself.
    People often compare Trump to Hitler and that's a legit comparison in many ways. Political beliefs and ambitions aside, just listen to the vocal cadences, watch the wild gesturing of hands. Even without understanding either German or English you can hear it in both men's rally styles, all that manic, guttural, growling, belting. But if you can stomach it, give a listen to the final recording of Jonestown, and see if you don't hear Trump's calm, supposedly-reassuring yet eerily sad-sounding low schtick, as Jim Jones intoned while attempting to pacify the agony of his dying flock. "Get out...and vote...for Roy.....Moore." "JOBS...Jobs...jobs" "We're gonna have clean coal, really cleeeean coallll." Is there any Kool Aid additive Trump's followers wouldn't swallow?
    To American evangelicals, Donald J. Trump the candidate sounded just like a god at his rallies, speaking in absolutes and hyperbole. To have faith in He Who Tweets His Name In The Third Person is to know, with all one's heart, that he and he alone can bestow on Americans an America of prosperity, peace and overall Greatness. To forgo faith in him is to embrace an America of poverty, invasion and terror. It is literally as simple as that--it's the Devil that's in the details, remember? The more vague hyperbole and less tactical details he offered in his campaign, the more his base bound themselves to him. And the more their faith is tested by facts, the more they denounce facts as lies.
    He likes to talk about how "No other President" has done things he's done. You have to admit, it's quite a feat for the stupidest, most dishonest, backstabbinest, pussygrabbinest President of all time to also be the closest to his people's god.

    • @audreymuzingo933
      @audreymuzingo933 6 лет назад +4

      Jam--yeah exactly; I don't think Trump is smart enough to even know why he fits the evangelical bill to a T. He doesn't pretend to be Christian very often, which would surely gain him a larger following if he did. But all he really knows is being his petty, praise-seeking, vengeful self, which is the evangelical version of god, so they just gravitate toward him whether he realizes why or not.
      . I should have said this in the first place, but I hope I wasn't coming off as fully anti-Christian, even though I am agnostic. I've known tons of sweetheart Christians who prefer to love God rather than fear him. Even if that requires cherry-picking the Bible in its own way, at least it's for the sake of compassion and free will.

      Time to drop your drawers, now. What's coming is inevitable. Just get it over with instead of suffering for another year or two. Pretty amazing that when a bonafide con-man gets elected there is no mechanism for removing him. All one can do is watch while being mutilated. Our great constitution has some gaping holes.

      He might have the potential for a great president... But he is far more valuable as the great journalist that he is!!!
      There are far too few of his caliber in that industry...

    If you want to benefit from the success of a company, instead of wasting it on drugs, alcohol and invest that money into the companies that are getting tax breaks. the unfortunate problem is that in order to create jobs, these companies have to be profitable and they have to have a stock pile of money so they don't get into trouble during a recession. So they get tax breaks, to be able to create jobs.. So if you want to benefit, then invest part of your income on stock/mutual funds instead of things you don't need or are wasteful.

    Love Johnston! I'm a born and bred Republican who refuses to vote for anyone who likes, cheats, steals, murders or lacks the moral character to work for/vote for his/her concience. That means I'm not usually not voting Republican. I am a baby boomer and vote regularly. I lived next door to some Revolutionary War reenactors. They practiced shooting their one shot muskets in a field at Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan. These were the types of arms our forefathers envisioned. They certainly did not anticipate a presidential candidate encouraging the citizens to fire multi-shot weapons into crowds by bragging that he could without anyone ever saying anything to him. All of these mass murders are not a mistake. They are are the work of our best known terrorist, Donald Trump. I have always accepted that he is a con and a grifter. The old black &white cowboy movies used to warm us about villains like him. Although the Republicans have been busy kissing one another for the last 40 years, I didn't expect them to act like complete eunichs since the election. You don't understand the word? How about "gelded" or "without balls". I'm disgusted that Trump's gotten away with as much as he has. The American people are the ones who are supposed to be served by their "representatives" in Congress. When Trump says "America First" he is NOT talking about you or me. He is talking about Trump and the 1%. This is the most exciting time since the 1960s for the young people to become involved socially and politically. Only you can save our country!

    Our Congress people do get a pension like 401k's, it is based on time served and amount of your highest pay!!! But almost all who leave , leave multi-millionaires WHY is the question this was long before Trump ,even Obama is now a multi-millionaire how did that happen.... i have " Worse Then You Think" by Keith Quincy and it is one of my favorite books, but you added It' EVEN a bit of a starch don't you think i do

      Obama was a multi-millionaire *before* he entered office. His book royalties made him rich, of course he released his tax returns, so its been proven.

    What Mr. Johnston describes as "sleep apnea" is really narcolepsy, which is suddenly going to sleep in the middle of an activity. Sleep apnea is disturbed breathing during normal sleep.

    • @phineasyoungs6643

      and sleep apnea results in sleep deprived, lethargic people especially afternoon or after a meal, so they are like a narcoleptic individual because they will nod out during a sedentary activity. Sleep deprivation is one of the major causes of car accidents and fatalities and that was Mr. Johnston's point re Neil Gorsach and strict adherence to corporate rules regardless of circumstances

    When you talk about "real capitalism" and "corporate socialism" you play right into the hands of people like Paul Ryan. The same language he uses only he uses it while selling dispensations to corporations. Better to use terms like well-regulated capitalism. It's a shame that Sunday's Superbowl game will be, hopefully, well-refereed and people will see that as a good thing, but our economy being properly regulated, the game being played fair, connotates negatively.
