Gabriel has set the bar. Devin Townsend is opening my eyes to a new vocalist.

Welcome to the asylum. There is a HUGE rabbit hole to go down. Devin's output is remarkable. Even more remarkable is the scope and range. Enjoy the ride.

Possibly my favorite performance of anything ever. Thank you!
You need to know that this is the last song of a 3 song trilogy at this show that really should be listened to in order for the whole effect. "Funeral", "Bastard" and then this one. You will not regret it.
As someone else posted here, "Higher", (also "Stormbending" and "Deep Peace") at Plovdiv are masterpieces. I hate to contradict them, but PLEASE do the definitive "Retinal Circus" version, of "Grace", not RAH. Huge diff.
"Kingdom" at EMG and "Deadhead" at RAH always blows everyone's mind. Lots of reactions to those!

how does he do that? it's amazing because this is the second set of the evening - he had just done the whole of the Z2 album.

Yes it was at the end of a three-hour show, and the whole band was getting over an illness too

9:40- need to go go back in time to add this to the pure moods album from the 90s

Good reaction, however Devin never does anything that's amateurish, not sure where you got that from... I would recommend doing Devin Townsend Project - Higher Live Plovdiv or Grace live at the royal albert hall next... You will love them!

Let it be said that Devin is my favorite artist of all time, I'm 51 years old and have framed stuff of his on my walls.... but he has admitted he didn't know what he was doing (in his book) on his first 3 or 4 albums. The live versions are consistently better.

@CWEMorgan as a personal friend of somebody high up in Dev's production team, and has seen the pre-production prep for myself, I can wholeheartedly vouch for your comments!

This is my favorite song of his, every time I hear it I get goosebumps (as does he) - I think this was the first time he did this song live? Years and years after it was released on his 1997 album (don't quote me on it though). It sounds quite different from the album version, he really elevated it Live, as he tends to do.

I can't remember if this was the same show but he said he didn't plan on releasing it but he was encouraged to do so.

@ThomasTallant I think it was the live at Plovdiv show, he introduces the bass player who played on the album and says something like "He's the reason Death of Music is on the album"

14:03 Dev once said that he was never trained, and his recording strategy was to scream until he tasted blood, then let it heal over and start screaming again

I am not a huge fan of the mix at Plovdiv. This recording is better. I can agree that the whole atmosphere at Plovdiv was amazing though.
