He wrote this when he was 23 after the experience on tour in Japan with Steve Vai. Just amazing. Whole Ocean Machine album must be listened as a whole.
I heard this song for the very first time when I went to sleep, the whole concert from the start, with my earphones .... I fell asleep, but after a long time I woke up, just in the beginning of this song ... I was half awake and half asleep .... the song never seemed to stop. BUT for me I was some kind of a religions experience, meeting God, meeting something big.... I'm NOT into religion at all .... but this had an huge spiritual effect on me. One of the greatest moment in my life.
Probably my favorite live performance from him. Even better than any kingdom versions or his big shows like the retinal circus. This one just hits me different. So much emotion in his singing.
Awesome...just awesome... Thanks for the reaction. Anyone that understands this song understand humanity and deep emotional themes of the soul. Thanks for taking the time for this gem of a song. Devin is a true artist
Devin is one of the most important musicians for me. I watched you listening to his music and enjoyed it. You always appreciated him. But I was looking forward to the day, when you’d hear Death Of Music. And here we are. I saw you reacting nearly the same way as I did only 3 years ago. I think now you have got a good picture about how amazing he is. Like Andrei said, this song is for cleaning your heart. Devin probably would love your comment. But he made a lot of music for house cleaning too in the 30 years of his musicianship. 😄 Thank you for this great reaction.
Love you two SO much!!! Devin is a once in a lifetime talent. It's beyond inspiring to see how music reaches out to people of different cultural backgrounds. It is the universal language.
Seriously! I have heard and seen soo many reactors. I have follow Aurora reaction for six years now and i have some other favourites and that is Pink floyd and Devin and some others and you give so many layer in your reactions. and your emotions is so like mine. You are my soulguys in music so it seems. Thank you for reaction to this.
Fantastic musician, fantastic song/performance! As others have said, doing the three songs together in one go - Funeral, Bastard, and The Death of Music is something you should treat yourself to!! Devi is widely known in knowing Metal circles, but outside of that.....yeah, he deserves far more recognition for his incredible contribution to the world of music!!🤘
A power ballad of great beauty in praying that when he dies that his music will live on forever and not die also. This song is everything, some of the best of music you’ll ever hear in the metal genre anyway and Devin is an absolute genius of talent, and humanity. Great reaction guys I love this one
20 years ago I wrote to Devin Townsend (via a paper letter) and asked him for permission to use this song in a student film of mine. I was given permission to use it provided I don't make money of it.
As a teenager, Devin had a friend who was stabbed to death over a pair of shoes. I believe the "Funeral" / "Bastard" / "The Death of Music" sequence in Ocean Machine was influenced by that event and that period of Devin's life. Devin has cried during these songs...
Thank you for this reaction! Devin's work is quite hard to react to, because many his songs are meant to be your own journey I think. So you can't really speak of them without talking about your emotions, which might be hard for some. It was great to see others' opinions on this song. :)
Devin is a incredible music producer. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The creativity comes from this emotions. I know that because I diagnosed the same. So his music and nine inch nails were the music I can be mirrored in. His range is wide like Trent Reznors music do too. Industrial, and trash metal but also mich more what has be found in his heart and emotions. Thanks for your reactions to his music.
Thanks Guys! It has been an absolute pleasure to share your introduction to the many sides of Dev's music. For those of us that get it - he can hit you like a ton of bricks. I consider this performance to be his vocal masterpiece, getting to enjoy all of the different facets of his incredible voice. I'm loving your channel Cheers!!
I haven't thought before but with so many 'bloody' and 'crikey' superlatives in there - are you in England? - you also did an 'isn't it' at the end of a remark - looking for affirmation - maybe South Wales?
Hi! All of the above is probably influenced by the fact that for over 12 years we have been living in UK. Only last year we decided to move to Romania 😊
I have a request !!! It has been a while since you did a reaction to Lucy Thomas and I would request her first ever recording at 13 of ONE DAY, and it is an original song !!!! and see where she started.
"You can't clean your house to this song.... but you can clean your heart"
Best quote I've heard for a long, long time. Bravo!
