- A rambunctious tomboy raised by a group of soldiers is forced to assume the airs of an aristocrat in this delectable soufflé of an opera. The dazzling Diana Damrau, a coloratura soprano acclaimed by the Associated Press for her "rapid-fire runs and stratospheric high notes," makes her San Francisco Opera debut in the title role. She is joined by renowned Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, who made The New York Times front page when he reprised his rendition of the opera's most challenging aria-hitting all nine high Cs not once but twice! Laurent Pelly's production is "by turns elegant, witty and laugh-out-loud funny," according to London's The Independent.

Grandiose Production, grandiose voices!!! Juan Diego Florez ❤with his glorious divine voice effortless trumpeting his famous nine high C’s, his beautiful charismatic being already greatest young tenor on earth and Diana Damrau with her full crystal - clear soprano !!! ❤ - wonderful opera lovers❤️❤️🎉🎉👏👏!!!!!
I saw this production, and I'd give a year of my life to see it again. Ms. Damrau and Mr. Florez each have phenomenal voices. They have such chemistry together. The sets, the costumes, her silly pigtail--all perfect. All of the singers demonstrated a real gift for physical comedy. It was one of the best productions of any operas I've ever seen--loved, loved, LOVED it. If this were on DVD, I would buy a dozen copies.
I wish the DVD had been released with Damrau instead of Dessay *sigh*
JDF and DD were sensational!
I was fortunate enough to see the opening night last Tuesday, and D Orchestra Premium seats to see them close up! It's very rare to have two of the most reknown opera stars perform together in my home town!
I hope you would stream this one day!! I'm really desperate to watch this online
Now I want the full clip 😍
I agree with you... Dessay had 3 TV broadcasts of her performances: NY, London and Vienna. Damrau should have had the DVD!
Thank you G.T. ! Amazing !!!
Really superb last night. Close call when DD jumped up on to the wobbly piano bench in Act 2, though-- almost went off platform. She quickly caught her balance and looked at the audience as if to say "Yikes!" all the while maintaining flawless character and spot on performance. See this if you can!
Wah, GREAT! :D Thank you so much for posting!
just saw this couple days ago. it was amazing.
Diana Damrau is amazing.
I am counting down the days until I see this =D
Cant wait to see DD and JDF at the met in FEB!! SF'ers sooo lucky
Regardless the fact that this production has been created for and by Dessay. But you're right: Damrau is wonderfull, playing the role of Dessay.
At my school we did this and I was part of it
and by "Preview" they meant "condensed version".
Sadly, didn't meet them.
