  • This was my first attempt at using the boom pole I got from Tractor Supply. Had a few hiccups while trying to use it, but over all went well.

Brakes are cheap and easy to fix on an 8N. Change the seals too. Brakes are used in primary steering with any tractor. You really need some front wheel weights. You may have to buy a parts tractor to get them. You could also fill the front tires with water. An old gym weight set can be used to mount on the front bumper, they could even be bolted to the front rims. I have rear wheel weights on the rear wheels of my 8N and they weigh 400# each. A Sherman 3 speed transmission makes a very safe tractor, especially in reverse gear. They are quite expensive on ebay but are well worth the $1000 or so. The 2 speed Sherman does not have compound low, so stay away from that one. I also welded a dozen weld-on hooks in various places on the boom so that a purchase can be made very easily on odd items using chains.

Was/is that the Tractor Supply 1000Lb BP for just under $300.00? If so after watching this I am definitely going to get one!

Shorten the strap to get more lift while keeping the implement further away because you don't have to raise the three point as high. Straps are easier to handle and don't tear up the paint too much. Would you get that light duty model again or maybe consider the heavy duty version they offer? Nice first run.

Hey, thanks for your comment. I would get the strap again for sure. This one held up nice, I just need to work on how to shorten it. Chains are a bit easier to control the length haha.

i'd say it needs a lot more weight on the front a lot more

Easier to hook it up to the 3pt than using the pole.

Yeah especially the way I did it lol. Normally that's how I move it but I wanted to try out the pole. I don't see myself using it again for the brush hog.

You know, if he'd just hooked up the mower to the three point like he was going to use it, he wouldn't have had a problem.

Yup, which is usually what I do. I wanted to try my new pole out though haha.

Yeah I mention in the video that my brakes don't really work. Would have been significantly easier if they did. Need new rear seals and that's a bit beyond me right now :(
