A rock composed of materials in our area weight approximately 150-155 lbs per cubic foot. So rocks can weigh a significant amount with out looking like it. Moving rocks safely is essential. We use a number of different methods to move our rocks into place depending on the overall weight of the rock.

You could use (4) 50# weights to the front of the tractor. You could shorten your boom. The further from your tractor the less weight you can carry.

Great info thanks. Last year moved a bunch of rocks with a neighbors 9n and blade to push around. Since I bought my own tractor a few weeks ago thinking a skid of some sort would be handy. I have boulders so big the neighbors dozer has a hard time with them.

Looks like hard work but worth it. I just built a log arch for my tractor but was thinking I could use it to move boulders as well.

Thanks for sharing, for years I have used a 1951 Farmall M with
a very heavy duty front end loader. I would love to see your sled when you get it done.

I never trust them boom poles I've broken plenty of them.. I made a set of forks with a small boom on the back. With a set of pull hooks and a hand crank winch for extra security.
I've moved plenty of big rocks and logs with it. With an 8n ford tractor

Funny how those Little Rock’s get stupid heavy after you lift a few, haha. I live on rock and don’t have a tractor yet. Everything I do involves rocks. It’s sucks. I need a machine.

i feel you man my property is covered in rocks of all sizes i learned over the years a few tricks like using old snow chains to cradle the rocks while moving them, i bought a old 4x4 truck took the bed off and welded a boom i made onto the frame with a chain hoist, also made a sled for rocks like this guy said he has works good.

Of course you can't lift that rock with the tractor! Try it WITHOUT the cat!
    You're welcome!

Good video but you need help with your rigging. Use straps not chains. Stop using the come-along. You really need a tractor with a front loader to do the final move into place.
