- Can you dig a hole with a Skid-Steer Loader? Yes, and in some cases digging a hole with a Skid-Steer is more productive than using a backhoe or excavator. In this video, Charlie explains why we used a Skid-Steer on a recent project digging a hole to burying rock, brick, and finishing grading work.
Don't have a skid-steer or compact loader? Grab a shovel amzn.to/2psR88V

Out of the hundred videos of skid steers and digging for info, this was the one video I needed to see. Thank you! I’ll be pulling the trigger on a skid steer for sure now
Thanks a lot, I'm excavating a hill in my backyard and wasn't sure if the SkidSteer was the perfect tool. It's going to do everything I need.
Add a tooth bar to that bucket and it will cut your digging time in half. I have a bolt on tooth bar for my Case 1840 that makes it sooo much easier to dig. I then used the holes in my bucket to mount other tools and to nest other buckets and forks.

Off Road SHO are there directions? I added a tooth bar to my Demo Dozer
I saw a contractor dig a 44x10 deep hole for a pool with a compact track loader (CAT). That's all he does and always uses a CTL. It's hard on the machine though...he already replaced the entire FRAME weldment once. Amazing to see. I would not have believed it.
good job, I agree, I have a Takeuchi TL130 for my 53 acre farm and timber, sawmill. bought lots of attachments. One is a 6 way dozer blade that I use to terrace hillsides. It'll dig, especially with teeth!
Thanks for posting this video. I’ve been wondering if I could a skid steer to dig shallow trenches to make walkways. But judging by how much skidding the tracks do in this case, it’s quite an inefficient way to dig holes. An excavator seems to make more sense to dig holes/trenches, especially in a hard ground.
The control of that skid-steer was pretty impressive... I may need to call on your neighbor! Large equipment is a lot of fun to use, if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish a lot of different tasks.
Alot easier digging with a tooth bucket and not so hard on machine!!
Well done and nice control
I've got a New Holland 675e with a 4 in 1 front bucket and a 28" rear bucket. I also have a T650 skid steer. The best way I've found to dig a hole is to dig the hole with the 28" rear bucket and move the dirt with the skid steer.
I may have a little skid steer envy. :)
No surprise here. Track loaders have been used to dig basements for decades. I would use the skid steer to dig here, but the ground id almost solid coral rock.
sounds like florida
Correct!
I know exactly what your dealing with im down here too haha
Construction purposes, get both a mini excavator and skid steer, battling between the two we've tried and it doesn't take long for them to pay for them selves
Finess Fishing or get a jcb 1cx or 1cxt
Do you think they would be good for digging out a driveway?
Got the friday evening - monday morning one day hire on a mini wheel loader. Moved 30 cube last weekend, wish I had your machine woulda been waaay quicker.
30 cube is a lot of work
You keep comparing it to a backhoe but never mentioned that the backhoe has a front bucket just like a skidding steer
Yes it is, I dig Inground pools with a Skidsteers
Nice rock n roll music nobody comes here for.
thank you for your skid loader tips. 8-)
Here is KS you're good till you hit the hard shale shelf rock. You can get it out in layers w/a small machine if you jack hammer it into manageable pieces. Otherwise you'll need a full size machine. It can be found from 4" - 36" thick! The yellow limestone & sandstone is not quite as hard.
We're really enjoying your channel, great Ranch Hand Tips! Would you consider review of Man Saver Post Driver?
Yes, actually we are about to do a large fencing project! We can show case it in Ranch Hand Tips as well as Cultivating Spirit Hill. You can contact us via email on our about page to exchange details ruclips.net/channel/UC60fxBZhfGR0yYtveRmPJNgabout?view_as=subscriber
Get a tooth bar on that thing and you will increase efficiency 2x or more
We just bought one with a toothed bucket, can't wait to try it out.
u need to buy what is called a pyranha tooth bar its like 300 bucks but is the best thing ever its worth every penny plus some look em up you wont be sorry
Those do look pretty awesome! bxpanded.com/piranha-toothbar
Those poor tracks :'(
Yeah, they're really loose. If he was clearing woods he would be throwing tracks left and right at that tension.
Yes guy is a bit rough
That digging would have went a lot faster had they had a tooth bucket on it.
That is a compact track loader “CTL”. Skid steers are tired machines
Boitano Excavation same difference. They both skid to steer
when is the last time you ever heard someone call a skid steer a "CTL" other than the manufactures
Why dont Americans ever use a 4 in 1 bucket ? It blows my mind a single bucket too me is completely useless? ?
Ashley Smith maybe people don’t want to pay the money for one?
4in1 is great they cost a lot more than a regular tooth bucket.
If your just moving mounds of soil a normal bucket is better. Normal bucket weighs less which means you can carry more dirt quicker and with more stability
I do use one. They are nice. I need to rebuild one of the cylinders though it has a small leak. The thing is that most of the backhoes don't have the auxiliary hydraulics in front to operate the 4 in 1 buckets. I'm mostly using a grapple rake now. It's about 4'x7'.
in most cases you need a high power aux hydraulics to run one of those buckets so people dont have them, and in my opinion if you dont need it dont get it bc its just another breakable item
While it may do it, there are far better tools for digging big holes
A bucket with teeth might have worked better.. but then you would struggle a bit with grading.
No I don't believe it
