I have a 1948 8N that Dad bought new in the spring of 1948 when I was still 4 years old . I still remember the day it arrived. He asked if I thought I could drive it and I said probably. After a quick lesson away I went and I still have it sitting in the shed with a 60" finish mower behind it.
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Go get one…they are amazingly simple machines but a lot of fun to work on. It’s amazing how many parts are available…you can basically build a new tractor.
Great video! Btw, Those things they put on the front axles aren’t steps, those are your brakes!🤣 But seriously kid if you’re gonna use it to bush hog or use the PTO for anything please do yourself a favor and go down to tractor supply and get what’s called an overrun clutch and put that on that PTO output shaft you have because if you put a bush hog behind it that tractor will push you over a cliff or down into a ditch or whatever The momentum that Bushhog turning, they were well known for that and they can hurt you really bad or even kill you. But I have two of them and I love them both! The engine sounds good! 60 pounds of compression run that engine all day long!
I enjoyed your video. I bought my 48 8N about 8 months ago. It was running so I did t have to do much besides oil change and hydraulic fluid change. Going to rebuild the hydraulic pump soon to get the arms to perform correctly. My next plan is to do exactly what you did and. It one I can try to get running. These machines are fun
It's funny because although these tractors are so simple to work on and when there is a small problem it takes forever to figure it out, especially if it's electrical
Looks like you tore the bottom of the radiator off, that thin metal strip laying on top of the radiator support should be attached to the bottom of the radiator. I would suggest getting a service and parts manual. Ebay or 8N tractor/ antique tractor forums have them. Will save you a lot of headaches in the long run. Those “steps” on the front axles are probably crude seats for kids(mostly) to sit on and spray weeds or grass in row crops. Of course the operator would be driving in 1st gear to help avoid the unthinkable.
You have a crank triggered ignition. If the coil is brown you have a 6 volt coil. Black coil is 12 volt. Looks like the jury rigged 12 volt car alternator is not straight. You need solid core spark plug wires. It will not run with those silicon core plug wires. Good luck.
Dude Next time Pressure wash it first, This way your Not working In Dirt and Grease , They are a Great Running Machine, I owned a 1952 8n, with Backhoe, Black hawk Dozer Blade. and a Loader, Mine Had Overdrive, 8 speed, 15 Years That Machine ran like New, Good Luck with it It has its Purpose, Its know power house, But they run Great when Taken care of.
We wanted to make sure the engine was free first. The video doesn’t show but we took care not to let any debris fall into the cylinders or behind the valves.
Don't you know the difference between chicken wire and expanded metal! There's a huge difference and they don't look anything alike!!! You really should learn the real name for things! If you don't know the real names for things you should look them up before you use them!
Great to see father and son doing projects. I have an 8n, and it brings a smile every time I crank it up. Will be looking for more of your videos.

Like a kid in a candy shop 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤
Enjoyed your video, and subscribed. I’ve got 4 of these tractors, 2 with backhoes and loaders. Lots of fun, easy to work on. Keep doing it!
Thank you! Me and my dad love this thing! We plan to get FUNKY with the next one… if you catch my drift 😄
I wanna see your tractors. A friend of mine just bought one. I think its gonna be awesome. Gonna try to find your channel
Nvm. You hve no content on your channel
I'm looking for an old 8N or 9N myself and this was such a fun video to watch. Great job Gents!

Good stuff!
This tractor has so much potential
I'm sure most of us seasoned fellas can do without the music.

You are stuck on tractors Like the rest of us now. Great father son project congrats.
Absolutely! We love this thing! We plan to get another one and get a little FUNKY with it😄
You can Put a little oil in the Cylinder to make compression, It might have stuck rings, Common if it sat a long time.
We did…it helped
I saw the Biden sucks sticker. You earned a sub!!
I have a 1947 2N Great project
That was freakin awesome I love these videos bringing history back to life good job 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! We have more to come!
Well done guys!!!!!
Looks like someone tried to remove the oil pan and didn't realize you need to remove the front axle.
Love it like to see you get a case 530 diesel
You could have just taiken the stirring wheel off and send It down And just repainted it I had 2 that I did like that turned out great

And yet it did run…and ran well. The alternator bracket was zero issues.
@timpyle2632 i am surprised crank trigger ignition can be difficult sometimes. Good for you
sounds goog for what you had

needs a head gasket 8n s are notorious for head gasket failures
Thanks for the comment. Also…we put a new head gasket on it. It was in the video.
Bet he shit his paints when he broke that shaft
I most definitely did😅
Maybe its just me but i wouldnt buy a steering wheel befor i knew the engine would run.
The engine was going to run or be rebuilt. The steering wheel was disintegrating in our hands.
For a while there I think your distributor cover was structural...
bfh = big fucking hammer
i may be firing order 1324...
the metal on the front was NOT chicken wire
Yep you are correct. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
@@timpyle2632 i believe it is carbon steel mesh
gee too bad ya paid 249.00 too much. they should have paid you to haul it off!
I sold it for $1,000+.. don’t think that $250 was a bad investment.
Use Oven Cleaner

That 8N Ford is only 20 horse power. Your average lawn tractor has more power.
Good thing I didn’t buy it for power.
8 n was junk when it was new
Theres a ton of these 8n tractors around so if ya take care of em they can be good for " small jobs " like brush hogging and not break the bank
@@jamesbush4568 THEY do not have a live pto a pain in the ass to run
