  • So I got my little TRD Intake Accessory part in. The Intake Flow Accelerator that comes on Toyotas "Performance" TRD Cold Air Intake. This piece is affordable and maybe indeed worth its price. Its a pretty big tube/Inlet. What do you guys think?

    Thanks for the info on OVtune. I love it. was easy to install and low end torque is wonderful. Drives how it should have come out of Toyota.

    All that the TRD device does is, it creates a Venturi Effect. Which does indeed flow better that a plain straight tube.

    How about trimming the portion that protrude into the fender well of the OEM part? Test run it and
    find if it will perform as good as the TRD air accelerator?

    • @CanadianOffroad4x4
      @CanadianOffroad4x4  2 года назад

      Could but the trd is definitely bigger and silicone material. All honestly between these two things it's a buy it and whatever. You have it because you have it lol but it doesn't do much

      @@CanadianOffroad4x4 Readings at 115kph on a smooth highway (first with oem, then with the upgrade) seem like they may be more useful; rather than sitting at idle.

      I avoid oil situations;). Dry filter is best choice !

  • @troy3456789
    @troy3456789 Год назад

    Idle readings between the two seems useless, since at idle, it will only pull in what it needs to idle in either case (only drawing in enough air to run the engine fast enough to keep the battery from dying, almost no load at all).
    Is the OEM inlet allowing the same flow as the accelerator intake inlet at 1500 to 2,000rpms when airflow needs to be closer to its zenith, and real world driving is happening? We don't know.
    How does it do at 2500 or 3000rpms going down the road? This is when it counts.

      Re engineer it eh 🤣 toyota makes this part so its all their engineering. I think the key ingredient is the intake tube. I also may not have done accurate testing. Can be a variety of things. Either way this piece is better then the factory one imo. I just like it more and its a very cheap part. Didnt buy a full intake or anything .

    Did you disconnect the battery right after you installed AFA? If not, it’s going to take your ECU awhile to adjust to the new airflow so you’re not going to see results right away.

    • @CanadianOffroad4x4
      @CanadianOffroad4x4  3 года назад +1

      Truck was off when I swapped the trucks intake accelerator. These trucks stock have 18 maps factory. Everytime you start the truck it runs a different map. However I'm running ovtune as well

    • @loganbeard9423
      @loganbeard9423 3 года назад +2

      @@CanadianOffroad4x4 neither of those matter, you still have to disconnect the battery so that the ecu reconfigures itself. I’m not sure if this part helps anything (I’m getting one myself anyway) but the reason why your test was inconclusive is mostly due to the ecu not having enough time to adjust to the new (potential) airflow.

    • @CanadianOffroad4x4
      @CanadianOffroad4x4  3 года назад +1

      @@loganbeard9423 call total BS on that for any matter. Regardless of the fact either way, there wouldnt be any noticable gains that you would feel. Only way to really prove it would be to dyno run it. This theory you suggest is the same as people that say the truck will adjust timing for higher octane fuel and give it more power etc. No it wont. The truck wont adjust anything for it. Disconnecting the battery wont relearn the ecu. I also found out after the fact i was only looking at 1 and not 2 MAF readings. So the first maf always maxed out. im getting a snorkel anyhow soon now since of my front bumper, so this piece isnt gonna matter sadly. I still think the only major restrictions are the filter and inlet tub thats it.

    Hey man I noticed when driving to get part installed MAF reading around 36 g/s and when you installed on way back MAF reading 60 g/s. That seems significant, but yes when ideling they almost the same! So ya think it’s ramming more air under load? Big difference in ignition advance also. Let me know your thoughts man.
