Had a great time out at the Memorial Championships this past week. Learned a lot and can't wait for my 1st tournament! Where did you guys play this weekend?
I love your videos man
We did some course maintenance
on our local track to get it ready for leagues :)
27 holes at Jefferson Barracks park St Louis MO. with a broken big toe. Why? Because you gotta KEEP SLINGIN THEM DISCS!!!!!!!
Ended up playing 2 rounds at cran hill and a round at pyramids over the weekend, both awesome courses in Massachusetts!
I thought you already played a tournament to get a rating?
Dude let’s go!! Thanks for having me on the channel it was a pleasure to help you out and pretty cool to watch you toss one 500ft 🔥🏹
Was awesome watching you all weekend. New fan. Gotta rock those Jordan’s every round 🔥🔥
0:03 you ok? how's your ankle feeling and how are the shoes holding up lmao. thanks for the tips, driving that back foot into the follow through is something i need to try.
Dude, I'd pay a 100 bucks for these tips Drew. You da business homie.
Awesome to see you on this video and to get some tips from you. Will be subbing to your channel as well. Good luck this season!
Drew I learned a lot more from this short vid than from some 30-45 min long paid demos from players I’ll leave unnamed. Looking forward to more content from your channel.
I believe in you brother. Go out there and get what’s yours. 🤘
I’ve been playing for 10 years and only able to throw 300’ consistently. After I watched and practiced the material from this video, I can consistently throw 450’-480’ now with my farthest throw being 505’. Thank you for making this available for everybody! For FREE!
Hey im kinda in the same boat. I am able to get 350ish but im curious what helped you out the most? Or what do you think was the biggest change in your throw?
Let me know when you find out….
So that's what my drives are missing: vengeance.
dougdevine27 that or the hot pocket
Ah vengeance, I went for malice.
Drew is an absolute animal and has some of the cleanest form. Solid vid!
Good guy Drew Gibson helping out the people. Really appreciate these tips.
Seeing this much Drew content really shows off his knowledge of the throw. To me, he’s so smooth it’s almost been a detriment because he gives the impression that he’s just a natural, but putting this kind of cerebral thought into is just next level. Thanks to both of you, will be watching this frequently
Life goal, throw a disc like Drew Gibson! Holy crap what an explosion of power!
Drew I love how direct you are on explaining. This is how you get better. Sometimes a direct explanation is hiw people learn in my opinion.
LOVED watching Drew play this past weekend, making it one of the most exciting Memorials I've seen over the years. Just a blistering pace you guys were pushing out there! Thanks for the tips guys!
This was quite literally the best information I've ever recieved regarding disc golf form. Thank you so much. I'm the guy who can throw 500, but only 4/10 times. The wrist degree thing made so much sense. 🔥🙌
A A you don’t even know the guy lmao wtf
@@familymainacct I understand your skepticism. I'm not trying to say I'm a 1000 rated player who can constantly bomb it ot anything, because I'm not. Far from it actually. I know UDisc isn't perfect, but I have my share of throws that are within 10 feet of 500 either direction according to the app. I've been playing for 10 plus years and I can consistently throw over 400 feet. Drew can bomb midranges 500 and I was just appreciating his technique and description of how he does it.
I really liked this video a lot. Drew seems to be a natural at teaching and explained each movement with rational purpose. More like this please
And he explains WHY we are doing certain movements, which is super helpful for beginners like me
Big fan of his teaching style. No BS, no fluff, just straight honesty. That’s how I learn best. Great vid🤙🏾
These have been helping so much, been playing for 10 days started at +24. Yesterday threw a +8.. watching all these tips have helped me tremendously.
Just for the slow mo, total thumbs up. Thank you so much! I was reminding other videos over and over and still missing what I wanted to observe. This is phenomenal. I can even record myself slow mo and compare, now. Brilliant!
It's great to see how Drew "coils" and snaps it like a whip vs. "muscle up" that so many of us do...
@@thetraveler2903 Not sure what exactly he was referring to, but I believe his point was that many players throw primarily with their arm instead of rotating their entire body. The majority of the throwing power should come from hip rotation, not from forcing your arm forward.
Many people when attempting to throw a disc further, hit a golf ball further, throw a baseball harder, etc. assume that they have to increase tension in their muscles (“muscle up”). Research in biomechanics has shown this to be the exact opposite of what you need to do. Drew is relaxed as he approaches the shot and accelerated as if “cracking a whip”. As Brodie mentions... just listen to the top pro’s throws... the sound at the point of release signals a relaxed yet accelerated snap
This is one of those things I won’t understand until it accidentally happens. Like when people told me I had to pop my hand putting.
This is the best distance video I have watched. I took these tips to field work first. Started at half speed and worked my way up to a controlled 90% and a 120% FR mode. I have noticed a huge difference at my local courses. Discing down on many holes and getting my longest drives on the bigger ones. Bringing all my scores lower than ever. Thank you Drew Gibson and Brodie for the video.
Imagine a person Brodie's size and height with Drew Gibson's form and experience. That would be a monster.
Give me a couple months
Brodie Smith with some good limbering yoga, especially the kind that limbers and strengthens your core and waist, I bet your form would get so smooth and strong so fast!
I love watching Drew rip it. I'll be rooting for him this season. Great start at Memorial, he's gonna win some big ones.
Brodie, I've been playing disc golf for almost 20 years now, but I love watching your videos and learning all these new things. I appreciate all this content, and damn if I don't wanna go out and try to go pro now lol
This is one of the better distance drive tutorials I've seen. Always wanted to drive atleast 400 but never could get there. This might just inspire me to go at it on a different approach. Great job Drew and Brodie.
It is awesome to see how excited drew is about disc golf and just teaching how to throw far and the excitement in his voice is awesome!
Your tip on the reach back and keeping it away from you is so helpful. I've never really heard anyone say that and now it makes a lot more sense. I think I've been rounding hard by reaching back behind my body. Great vid!
This is an awesome video and a ton of great advice from Drew! Loving the vids and the journey
Gibsons a cool guy for taking time to really explain things in so much detail… awesome teachings by him..
Nothing but great advice in this video! Thank you. I finally am putting everything together and yesterday was throwing just over 450' for the first time.
**IMPORTANT: The one thing that I haven't seen discussed in any disc golf distance videos is the stabilization of the front leg during the release. Drew does an awesome job and is obviously very strong based off of his front leg extension @9:22. I was a pitcher in college and the fastest I clocked was 95 mph. Similar to baseball, you don't want any drift through your front knee as your releasing. You want to stabilize and extend if you can.
Literally studied Drew's form over and over, slomo, and took it outside and practices for days, practice without disc and with and just straight up form and finally got it down. Thank you for this vid!!!
took third in my first tourney! i got FREAKY woulda had 1ST but i accidentally scored my second round wrong and got docked 2 strokes. but it was all a learning experience and set my goals to having a fun time and learn. i did just that so i'm stoked! these videos have been helping me tremendously with getting to understand the game. thank you Brodie
cant wait to see what you do!
I’ve watched some good videos by Simon and others on how to throw farther but Drew really put the icing on the cake for me. Keep up pumping out the great content Brodie!
Been playing disc golf for at least 7 years and I am loving learning how to make my game better along with you Brodie. I need this. It's almost like we all have the best in the world teaching us like brodie does.
i played for a year on and off. Started back up again and am determined to learn how to improve my distance! after watching this video (over and over)! thank you for sharing:) My aim is straight forward but once I move my hips, & head right it will go farther! haha
Its amazing to see how much Brodie has improved since the making of this video! Your form looks so much better now, and you look way more comfortable making your distance throws. Keep up the work, keep improving, and I look forward to seeing you on some podiums in 2021!
I love watching Drew throw. Great video Brodie.
Dude rips it
@@BrodieSmith And look how both of you are doing now. It's pretty amazing. Congrats on the progress.
Thank you for sharing, this is extremely valuable and very easily understandable advice! This is gold!!! Drew, you are awesome my friend! Brody, keep the vids coming, I get bored when I run out.. this new season has been the best yet with your content!!!
You rock Brodie!! I've been following you for a while now. Since the stuff you did with dude perfect and bro 5. Independantly from that. I've also been following pro Disc Golf. I watched one round and was hooked, immediately subscribed to JoMez Pro and watched all I could. I often wondered if you would make the transition into disc golf and when I saw you post you're first video with Paul Mcbeth I was so fired up to watch your progression and you do not disappoint. Can't wait to see where it all takes you man. So shout out to you, your wife Kelsey, Paul and Hannah, Simon Lizotte, Drew Gibson, Eagle McMahon, Paige Pierce and the entire Pro Disc Golf community for opening my eyes to this amazing sport. I'll be watching for great things from you Bridie. Much respect
Thanks for the videos Brodie, you're showing some deep humility to take all the advice... and using it!
Brilliant explanations Drew. "Attack the throw." Thanks to you both for puttin this out there.
i loved watching drew this last weekend. dude is a champ. also really enjoy his hair.
Dude can rip
David Wood you’re one of the few who actually like it 😝
Drew is a beast and the hair is on point so who gives a F$$k who dont like it..
Gibson has to be a fellow metalhead! Drew will be world champ soon. Im gonna call it that it will happen in the next 3 years. I get the same feeling about him as i had about Wysocki before he socki-bombed his way into a world title.
Randomly came across this and now want to start playing! :)
Paul places third...Brodie has new coach.
J White I’m sorry but this is funny.
Oh boy lol
Drew was tied for 4th, so he downgraded? lmao
I figured Paul needed the time off. He was limping on Sunday.
LMAO best comment I've seen in a while
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Waco!
This was hugely helpful. I've only played 3 times and am hooked.
Love seeing the work going into that distance shaot!
Fun fun fun learning these techniques. Thx Drew and Brodie
Man I’m going to have to save this video. If Drew ever comes to Michigan I would be down for some private lessons. He can absolutely crush and is a great teacher!!!!
Thank you for the video Drew and Brodie! I’m going to have to rewatch this a lot to let this info soak in:-)
First round of my life yesterday, made a 320ft drive on the udisc shot tracker! Very happy with that! It landed where I wanted too! Really wish I’d started playing decades ago. 😓
Drew, you are such a good teacher! I hope you have a great year. LVC was incredible!
I tried utilizing these tips on the course today, and BAM! I easily extended my backhand about 90ft, with less effort. Thanks for sharing this video!
The way it was described to me for reaching back to throw, and pulling the disc forward, was like you are pulling a lawnmower cord to start it. a straight line back to forward. It was a great comparison for me to think of. Greatly increased my throw. Great vid.
This was very helpful. Very similar to the clinic I took with AJ Risley On February 15th, 2020 at Mountain Pride Disc Golf Park in Murrieta, Ca. Thanks, Drew this was awesome! I can't wait to try this and get my hips more engaged to get that power.
Insane!! So happy you’re doing so well so fast.
This was the most useful information i've ever gotten about throwing far. I'm going to watch this on repeat. Brodie, one thing i notice about your form is you do seem to round just a bit still and the disc doesn't really pop out of your hand. I'm not sure if it's a grip thing or a wrist speed thing but the disc just seems to come out....idk lazy? that seems insulting and I don't like to say it but I think that's the difference in when you can hear the disc come out of Drew's shot but you's doesn't sound the same. Just my 2 cents man. You can already throw well farther than me so I probably shouldn't be talking. Super excited to watch you keep improving and crushing some courses!
Thanks for the video. I'm new to Disc Golf and this video has been very helpful. Thank you Brodie and Drew.
Nice, well thought out tips from both guys. Thanks
My fave thing about disc golf is guys can talk about themselves in a good light, like ‘I’m one of the furthest throwers in the world’ and it doesn’t sound arrogant. Practice makes perfect, and his distance shows how much work he’s put in. I love it. So much respect for Drew.
Great video, I'll watch this multiple times too ;). Thanks both.
When you hit the weights make sure to get a hold Seth Munsey with Disc Golf Strong. Keep those joints healthy and target the important musics for disc golf 💪
very informative thanks for this, I've been playing for over 11 years with my boy Bruce Allen Kline, and this vid and others always help me out.
Drew is the MAN! "Gotta get some vengeance in your throw" might be the best advice ive ever heard 👏👏
one of the best explanations for distance ive seen thank you guys!
Thank you. Drew did a great job teaching throwing form i need this
Learned a lot by watching this video. Thanks Brodie for helping all of us get these tips!
This video has changed my game. Thanks so much Drew and Brodie for this video!
Drew is a great teacher. That was very informative. Thanks, bros!
Drew!! You’re my favorite player! You’re awesome man, I love watching your content on RUclips as well
Awesome vid guys. Congrats on the 500’. Drew is a great instructor.
The "snap" from Drew's drives is so insanely loud. He'll throw a buzz and it sounds like a high speed driver ripping out of his hands at 80mph, it's crazy to hear in person.
Also, lol at waiting for the UDisc measurement to calibrate. Such a relatable moment haha
That tip about using your back leg to drive your hips. 🤯 Man I think that's what I was missing. It makes do much sense. Can't wait to go out and try it tomorrow. Thanks Drew and Brodie!
Really insightful comments and helpful tips. Thanks for a great video!
Been a Brodie fan for a while and been watching Jomez for the last year or so. Now I'm learning the personalities of the players I've been seeing in the tournaments. Disc golf seems like its full of the nicest people.
Crazy to see how far your form has come since this video. So much more power with much better consistency.
I have watched this a couple of times over the last year but this finally clicked for me. Thanks so much. Literally put 75 feet on my drive.
Thank you so much for this..DID NOT realize how much how my head is reflects my throws....Im also very guilty of doing the rounding also , so this video gives me something to think about when im out throwing...That ending cracked me up
This is the video I’ve been waiting for! So much goodness with all the tips! Can’t wait to get out and try it out and awesome seeing Brodie get that 500 at the end!
ty, fist between head and shoulder, really helped. Enjoyed watching final round of Memorial
Nice! Really enjoyed this one, awesome advice from Drew.
This video was so helpful! Thank you!
Fun video! Love both you fellas!
Great job Brodie! I have enjoyed watching all of your videos about your transition into disc golf. I have been playing since 1988..what a hreat sport we have. If you watch your shots through to your last one where you cranked it you might see what I did..there is a spot during your run up where it looks as if you are repositioning the disc to the angle that you want to release it AFTER your backswing is completed. On your best throw, you finally already had that angle correct before your backswing eliminating the need for that correction during your follow through. I think this small correction aided in your distance for sure. Just something to think about. Good lick to you and hope to see you in Nashville this summer! ✌🏼 ☮️ peace
Drew giving some super solid advice. Spin Spin Spin. Focus on the spin. I really like what he was saying about kicking off the back leg! That is Gold!!
Thanks for the vid Brodie! Drew is a great teacher!
14:58 that james conrad run up doe...
I've been playing for 10 years and max out at 380ft. Amazing progress
lmao me too buddy, me too. Me and my pals have been playing for 10 years, we got pretty good in the first 2 years! But completely plataued and haven't improved since haha it's embarrassing (but whatever it's for fun)
Drew is one of those people where his voice doesn’t match what you think it would be.
I sadly agree 🤣
100%
100% it's the same with nikko locastro
I'd say the more I hear / see him the more I think he is more likable, intellectual, and approachable than he appears on the surface. I found myself rooting for him @ the Memorial.
Pat M don’t get me wrong I love drew... it’s just funny.
This dude does an incredible job teaching. Good job man.
Nice video. Simon put out a video a while back that helped me. This one has similar content but adds info. I found it helpful. Thanks Drew and Brodie for putting out useful content. Brodie makes informative videos that have a casual feel. Drew, thanks for adding a bit on how Simon differs. It would be interesting if someone put out a video breaking down how the farthest throwers (i.e., Drew, Simon, McBeth, Eagle, Gurthie, etc.) are similar and how they differ.
Great Vid, great tips from Drew!!
Being an novice this video helped me to get forced 250-270 to solid 270-300 with very little effort on force and at the same time my accuracy increased substantially... And all this came just by watching the video and right after that those throws started carrying out right out from the first one. With minor changes and practice I bet I could throw easily 320-350. Very well put tutorial and great examples! Thanks a lot!
Enjoyed the content. Fun to see Drew entusiastic.
Good content guys, Keep it coming :D !
I liked this video as soon as Drew said "anyone can throw". He really shows that you need to put all your energy and focus into the throw.
Excellent clinic thanks drew
Your back leg drag is a real thing! I had the same issue as a beginner. I wore out the toe on two pair of shoes.
Throw with vengeance. Good name for a disc!!
great video... the exact thing for me a beginner needed to learn to throw correctly.. big ups
Another super helpful video for this humble novice. Appreciate it, gents.
It's cool to get different perspectives on your form too because people have corrected different things from their own game and are able to perceive stuff that you might not even have thought about. The aggressive tip from Drew is something I never even considered since I'm normally pretty relaxed and didn't consider how I gotta change mind frame for that moment.
I love this video. Not because I’m planning on throwing 500 feet (I average about half that distance), but because Drew finally woke me up on the follow through. I’ve played disc for 20 years, but never had anyone give me any good advice/training. I did an online lesson with Scott Stokely and didn’t get beyond footwork. Bringing that left shoulder through is a big deal. I never did it and paid with thousands of horrible throws. Now I’m working on not trying to kill every shot......
Got to know so much new tips. Now driving feels like rocket science.
This helped so much! Thank you.
Im impressed with how much Brodie has progressed!
