Catch BIGGER Canal Fish With This Simple Method!

  • A bit of a change of pace with all the light lure fishing i've been doing recently. This session i decided to stalk and snipe the bream shoals that patrol up and down the canal. Using the simplest method. Just a hook, a single split shot and bread flakes! In a short 3 hour session i managed a good haul and even managed to get some fish feeding on the surface.

    I catch many big bream on the Grand Union Canal here in Milton Keynes, around this time onwards when things warm up I will head off on my electric scooter taking a 9ft Okuma insert quiver rod, I use 3lb straight through normally Maxima Chameleon line, a running 10g flat Guru pear lead and a size 12 hook tied directly to the mainline. Bait is normally mashed bread as feed, and on the hook worm tail with a small bit of corn on a short Hair rig, or a dendro topped with a red maggot on the hook. I target areas of rushes on bends, as when boats turn the wash from the prop hollows out a slightly deeper area on the bend where the bream like to shoal. Average normally is 3lb, but I've had many 5 - 6lb bream out and biggest was 8lb 5oz last summer.

    Nice Bream and did you notice the spawning tubercules present. I’m old fashioned and still follow the old close season as I think fish need a break from us to go about their breeding rituals unhindered.

    • @Visseman2
      @Visseman2 2 года назад +1

      In the netherlands we still have closed seasons for fish. I'm 15 and i won't fish on species when they are spawning. I sometimes catch bream or perch accidentally when fishing on roach. If i catch a fish when they are spawning i quickly make a photo and put them back. :)

    Hi pal lovely fish - I'm a carp angler generally but when I catch bream it's right to treat them gently, as with all fish. I decided I was gonna give it a go and when there was a heeeoowge s/w wind, I dusted off my old tipping rod, put about 6 big balls of this krill grounbait laced with chopped worms, casters,etc out then used a feeder with grounbait and a worm from the pile of grass cuttings from my mams garden, topped it with a pinkie and omg I caught 33 clonkers about 4lb+ until I ran out of bait. It was ace sport. Mad. I foulhooked one in the head and I I didn't even see it for ten minutes - I thought it was a carp! Unreal!
    Your fish care and the kindness you show is exemplary, mate. Well done . . . . We need to show kids that bream are beautiful too (despite the slime and stink until you wash your net at home lol)
    Well done pal, excellent example.
    Soz for yappin - omg!
    Thanks again,
    pete.

    I have pair of mitchell advocate bait runners im guessing your reel is a fixed spool version. Just be kind to it, the gearboxes are wank on them both of mine stripped out from small carp didnt even have the drag set that tight, I opened one up after 2 identical fails to find plastic gears, the crank gear is metal and it stripped out the first plastic gear its meshed to... Maybe yours will be better, but mitchell are not who they used to be.

    You seem to fish where you 'know'? (Canals, Rivers, streams, lakes etc.) - not knowing where you are, I haven't really seen you go 'off point' as many other anglers on RUclips seem to do (although you do attempt the strangest things, granted!)
    Spend a day down the Regents Canal in Central London utilising those tactics - what the boat traffic / building work / cormorants etc. haven't destroyed, is there for the taking for you - start at Victoria Park and make a video of that!
    I would say you'd probably need to book a week down there to get a few minutes of footage.......
