First session of the year went great! Only fished for about 3 hours, but managed to catch some cracking fish! If you're wondering about the finger A&E managed to fix it for me haha. I'll be doing a video soon where i swap my trebles for singles and see if it affects the hook to land ratio. As always thanks for watching and don't forget to check out the description for links to the tackle i used in the video!
We’re abouts do you fish fella you just seem to have amazing rivers around you if there all local. I’m from Bolton and most of the river around me are shite cheers mate
Proper fisherman right their half the tackle tarts I know would of gone running the second that hook went in, & ta top it off takes care of fish 1st, absolute legend
Your channel has become one of my favourites, no arrogance just good honest fun fishing. Love your respect for the fish. Could you show some more of your rig setups please because they obviously work. Working my way through your videos, never get bored . Subscribed 👍👍
If you're looking for some really small swim-bait lures, (on the house) let me know. They're little assassins for perch and trout here in Ireland, and they are completely homemade. Your vids ar excellent mate, so keep 'em coming. Oh, BTW, least painful hook extraction : press the point through, then snip the hook at least 3 mm behind the entry wound. Grab the freshly protruding point and slide out. I learned that from a conger hook into the main thumb muscle. Irritating more than painful.
Remeber sitting in science in year 9, had my hand in my coat pocket during break, I started to feel a little sharp pain in my right hand, I looked down and saw a tiny size 20 barbed hook, buried deep into my knuckle. It must have been left in my coat pocket from the weekend. I tried to pull it out but couldn't, it being barbed of course. The school had to call my mum to come and take me to A&E, where they snipped the eye off and pulled the hook through the other way. It stung a little! Worth it though as I got the afternoon off school, and my mum bought me a boost and a bottle of cherry coke! 25 years ago, jeez!
Grab and jerk, hurts like hell for a second, than you're good to go again! Lovely fish like always, i wish we would have streams like those over here! 👌🏻
Dude, absolutely cracking vlog and a dedication to lure angling with the treble incident. Hope you have a great rest of the week and weekend ahead, tight lines and best wishes and stay safe and well to you and your family buddy
Getting a treble stuck in your finger is bad, but getting one stuck in your wife’s finger is a disaster, never leave a lure in the key draw like I did! My wife ended up down at A&E. great video and true dedication.
Hope your fingers ok pal.Had a bad day wi trebles a few weeks back,so went on to single in-line hooks .I had a couple perch and chub under that bridge too on a 3.5 salmo hornet ,real dace, with size 6 in-line hook instead of the trebles.
About 20 years ago, the lack of appropriate tackle to the fishing I was doing caused me to build a custom spinning rod from a fly rod blank. Similarly, a 5'6" Lamiglas fiberglass spinning rod blank was my favorite tiny creek fly rod with a 4-5wt set up. Do UK anglers have a crop of home grown custom rod builders who do this sort of experimenting? I like the S-glass feel with the new low-stretch lines in some situations. A fellow surf fisherman observed that he did much better on his hook up rate with mono and old stuff while throwing Bombers, Rebels, Redfins and SP Minnows at striped bass on the beach. The braid and graphite led to bumps and misses.
Have to try the rapala cranks always used salmo hornets. Good to see not all northerners are soft good vid. I crush down 2 barbs and remove 1 set of trebles makes life easier and still have a good hook up rate. Tight lines
Well I didn't plan on going fishing today but after watching this video , off I go ! I also bought a rapala countdown elite a few month's back . Gonna give it a chuck down on the river . Cheers mate
yea the same thing happened to me similar to jig and got stuck in my thumb the exact same way from the start of the bone upwards and managed to take it out after 10 mins of trying
Ouch... All the years I've watched this channel, I've been expecting you to get hooked. You've had a few close calls. I won't go anywhere near hooks without a disgorger, or forceps and have never been hooked. A friend of mine ended up with 2 points of a treble embedded in the soft part of his hand below the thumb when we were kids and it scared the shit of me at the time, there was blood pumping out all over the place.
Yea I never touch hooks with my bare hands unless it's a soft plastic jig or something. I can't believe most youtubers put their fingers near trebles so much when fish can trash around at any second
Great session mate - slayed em. The hook in the finger OUTCH! W'eve all done it but I have to say I wince every time I see you remove a lure with your fingers rather that using small set of pliers or hemostat forceps. Anyway mate love the videos and keep em coming.......
I had that happen to me. I tried to push it so it comes out another side, thinking that was less painful than trying to pull back on it. I was wrong. I just squeezed my finger until numb and then savagely pulled the thing out. I am curious what you did. By the way, you're a real trooper for fishing through it. I first pulled hook out before continued fishing.
I learnt the hard way. I was biting a swan shot a few inches away from the hook an someone's dog shot past an knocked my rod I was hooked deep in the bottom lip up to hooks eye. I've never used barbed hooks since and use small pliers to crimp weights. Live an learn lol.
a lot like my first of the season but I didn't cop an injury or do half as well. got to my river at 4ish and it was chocker lol anglers everywhere got on a few pegs and my lure of the day was salmo shallow rattling hornet load of small perch and couple of chub lumps few smaller ones as well
Even though I have been out for a few sessions with an untreated undiagnosed broken (small) bone in one hand (broken during a previous session 😂) that hook on your hand churned my stomach for more than a few seconds… i respectfully tip my hat to you dear sir…
Fantastic fisherman -, i have been enjoying your videos and trying to learn from them thank you for sharing your content it is awesome to watch and been watching from the beginning
Love this video and great to be back on the rivers ain’t it !! Some cracking fish and well done… the gear from 13 fishing do they ship to the uk ? Obviously they do as you’re using their gear but do they have a uk supplier ?? Cheers buddy and all the best to ya 👍🏽🎣😀… hope you got that hook out 😵😣😩
Crush the barbs on your hooks and when you hook yourself the hook just pops out…..and guess what? It does that with the fish too!…no harm done to you or the fish! I’ve fished barbless for 66 years and never lost a fish because of that, I guarantee you wouldn’t either, just keep a tight line between you and the fish. You’ll probably catch more too because there is no barb to impede hook penetration. At least try it and see!
@@FishingWithCalvin When fishing smaller fish i usually don't use a net and i've tried removing the barbs but i keep losing the fish when they are right in front of me and the line starts slacking so I guess i'l have to net them with a tight line? when I try to grab the leader they usually shake themselves off
Hey broo! I really like to fish for chub aswell. I just got a litlle 4.3 cm popper and big chub love it. I just straight retrieve it, it has no action, but the chub really are biting. Cheers🤝
Chris you should have just pushed the hook out and cut the barb of and pull it back through the direction it entered hope it heals quickly for you pal.
Respect to u for trooping on a still fishing with a barbed hook in ur finger and not really care about ur self but care about the safety if the fish real fisherman
You had a dream session wish i caught like that in london i'm pretty sure im going to get that lure and still blank. But hope your finger is better i would have ran home crying to the misses lol
had a hook stuck in my thumb before, cut it to the tip and left it in there until the barb had rusted enough to squeeze out (probably not the best idea)
This is why you NEVER use barbs! In Europe, on many rivers, you are not even allowed to fish hooks with barbs. I would recommend to always remove them, its better for the fish and the fish got at least a chance to get off!
Why didn't you just pass the hook through your finger and cut the end off. It would have saved you a trip to A&E. But some very good fish plus a very good video 👍👍👍👍👍
I actually tried this on the bank, but couldn't push it through. Looking at the x-ray the hook point was up to the bone. Wondered why I couldn't budge it 😅
To be able to throw a Rapala Countdown Elite 5cm, I'd need to get 62k subs on my RUclips channel... Only 61980 to go 😁 Damn are they expensive, but they look like they do the business. Thumbs up on the vid 👍👍👍 I'm off to find that lure in the tree

Come to think of it, the title is quite pornographic as well. Tiny bait gets crushed by big river fish ;)!

Imagine NEYMAR getting his finger hooked up while fishing😂😂😂😂bloody hell, he would drown 10 times, bite his whole arm off and call Chub racist.
Ridic isnt it? 😂 Soccer players man..

isn't the 18lb braid a bit of an overkill for chub fishing?
It's purely so that its heavy enough to bend the hooks out if I was to get caught in a snag and get my £12 crank baits back
