    I just saw a trick putting teflon tape onto a male end in a tight spot. They rapped the tape around a straw & used the straw to rapped it around the male end

    If you don't want to damage the threads on a pipe use a rag to cover them and then put the device you're tighten them with on it

    The kantleak valve needs to have the pressure released before turning selector. That's probably why the O ring on the cartridge got destroyed and lead to your storage tank filling.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  3 года назад +1

      No that isn't it. They wear out over time as does anything with o-rings. It's simply a bad design. Once they wear out and begin to leak it doesn't matter then whether you turn them with pressure or not because its already worn out. Thanks for checking out the video. Safe Travels

    • @TheMinnow101
      @TheMinnow101 3 года назад +1

      @@JonesN2Travel Well then I guess you had better tell Andersen Valve that then because releasing the water pressure before turning the selection handle is exactly what they instruct to do.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  3 года назад +1

      Yes, you are 100% correct but they will still wear out over time even if you turn them with no pressure. ABCO already knows about it and that is why they discontinued the cartridge and came out with an entirely new panel that is all brass. I mentioned in the video that I will be replacing my panel with a new one soon but this hack is to get us by until we can get a new panel. Hope that helps. Safe Travels

    Good job. You might want to consider liquid teflon tape (Pipe dope) for tight spaces. And, you could use both for double protection in tight spaces.

    Ball valves are very tight so they have a lot of friction when operated. I predict that eventually the plastic nipple on the manifold will crack and/or break off from constant flexing and people will forget to do it anyway. There was plenty of line so you could have put another short line on the manifold and brought the valve out to the opening where it would be much easier access and wouldn't be flexing the manifold.
    They are water lines, not hoses.

      Thanks for the tips. This really is a temporary hack fro us as eventually I will replace the manifold. Great tips though, I appreciate it. Safe Travels

    Just a thought, wouldn't have been easier to cut the pex install the shutoff in line? Yes you would need a Pex tool but if you have an RV you should be carrying pex tool, pipe and fittings for repairs.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  3 года назад

      Hi Scott. Yes, you are correct and I do carry those tools. However, I wanted to show how to complete this hack without any special tools. I know I didn't mention that in the video. Also, I am planning on replacing my panel so I probably wont leave the valve in there once I do that. Kind of a temporary solution, for me anyway. Thanks for checking out the video and for following along. Safe Travels

    Faster and easier would have been a sharkbite ball valve, a cut in the 1/2 pex & done. I see that where your PVC Male adapter is to be a leak since you removed the fitting w the oring, also teflon tape likes to be flat when installed otherwise drip, drip, drip.
    Just my 2 cents.
    Otherwise good video.
