I haven't watched Season 2, and I legit thought people were lying to me about Thanos being in it. Then I actually looked into it, and I spent the next few minutes confused and cracking up.

To be fair, we know why the people who wanted to continue playing let the rebellion happen: maths made it obvious that they were massively outgunned and would die, leaving those who wanted to continue playing with a much larger cash prize and a certainty that they would win the vote. From their point of view it was ‘never interrupt your enemy while they’re in the middle of making a mistake’.
When I saw people saying Thanos was in this before watching, I assumed there was going to be a surprise Josh Brolin cameo somewhere. What I actually got was WAY better
Surprised there wasn't a quip about spending 20 minutes each episode watching the vote after each game. Which always somehow ends up being 1-2 votes away from going home. but you also know they won't vote to go home because then the show ends. This season has so much padding it feels more like one season stretched into two rather than one long season cut into two.
Seriously, this season was only seven episodes but STILL felt too long. There's about three, maybe four, episodes worth of story here, and even those feel drawn out
I liked those parts. It really built of the tention and animosity between the 2 sides. If they didn't have the voting, the situation between Thanos and the crypto bro wouldn't have kept escalating, and the little war between the 2 sides wouldn't have happened.
They let everyone leave mid-game last season, so there was a possibility that the vote would succeed. It wouldn't shut down the island for good, but maybe they could've found some clues to the island's location for the mercenaries on the trip back. There *were* interesting things they could've done with it - they just chose not to add much value to it other than the betrayal of people switching sides and wearing the betrayal on their chest in the next death game. No one purposely killed someone that swapped sides; plus the mother/son betrayal and the bullied kid/big sister betrayal both went nowhere, so it feels like a waste of time in hindsight.

Player 001 being a plant again was so in-universe obvious that I was convinced I was either not remembering S1 correctly or was mistaken about who the Front Man is. It just didn't seem like a plot twist that the hero would fall for again. Especially after his first vote is the one who keeps the games going.
As viewers is really obvious, but what are the odds for that to happen again irl, it could be a double bluff in the end. The guy did his job perfectly to make it not obvious, never overreacted and played as fair as possible

Yeah, the games were always biased for jerks/bullies who will keep the games going and violent. Gi Hun got threatened at gun point when he tried to persuade people to vote No, yet Thanos and the bullies got no consequences for threatening others to vote Yes.
tbf, Gi-hun came in from the jump declaring he wanted to stop the games so they probably figured he had some kind of plan, as opposed to every other player that was going in blind

I guess you really don't remember the first season. Voting isn't something new, one of the major plot points of the last season was that the players voted to stop and go home, but later came back anyway.

In S2 they get to keep the money they’ve accumulated if they leave. In S1 they go home with nothing, which is why the final game was so heartbreaking as Gi-Hun tried to get Sang-Woo out at the last minute, forfeiting all of the money to keep him alive.
I am watching Cleopatra 1963 and there was literally a "slide show of the thing you just watched" in the middle of it! That movie is famously too long and ended a whole era in Hollywood 😂 I'd love a pitch meeting for that!

One thing that had me annoyed was the game people were able to find and remove the tracking device in main squids tooth but couldn't find a knife or a cross full of drugs. Last season they had to hide those things in some... very hidden places but this season they're just wearing them. Maybe they let them keep them to make the games more interesting but seems counterintuitive when the front man was all about "fairness and equality" with contestants last season
