Despite the lifeless expressions of its main characters, the 2019 “Live-Action” Lion King remake made over 1.6 billion dollars at the box office, which means some kind of follow-up was inevitable. That obligatory follow-up is here, in the form of prequel centered around everyone’s favorite cloud lion: Mufasa.
Mufasa: The Lion King does raise some questions. Like why doesn’t Mufasa even try to get back to his parents. Wasn’t it established that Mufasa and Scar were actually brothers? Did we really need origin stories for a stick and a rock? Why do Timon and Pumbaa keep interrupting?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside Ryan George’s Pitch Meeting for Mufasa: The Lion King!

I’m so glad they covered how Rafiki got his stick. I remember all those seemingly endless, restless nights forcing me awake as a child after watching the movie for the first time…haunted by not knowing where an anthropomorphic mandrill obtained the stick he shakes every now and then.

Fun Fact: Scar's real name being Taka actually first appeared in a much better story called "A Tale of Two Brothers", part of a series of semi-canon children's books called _The Lion King: Six New Adventures_ released shortly after the original The Lion King movie in 1994. The star of these stories is Kopa, son of Simba and Nala, who has long been a favorite character among fans.
In "A Tale of Two Brothers", Rafiki tells Kopa and Simba the story of King Ahadi, Mufasa and Taka's father (biological for both, of course). Though he loved both his sons equally, he spent more time with Mufasa because the latter was the oldest son and future king (and thus was receiving royal lessons), and this caused Taka to become jealous of Mufasa.

I love that this movie technically makes Mufasa a usurper to the throne which gives Scar's grievinces more legitimacy. Much like how we'll one day find out that Producer Guy has crippling claustrophobia but is trying to work through it by constantly imagining small or "tight" spaces
I don't think you watched or understood the movie. How is Mufasa a Usurper? Scar's home was destroyed, hence no kingdom, and Mufasa was the one who was able to unite the animals at their new home, who by the way chose him to lead and had no loyalty or allegiance to Scar
I was thinking about that, when the preview said they weren't actually brothers
"Scar, I apologise - you should have thrown him down that ravine a long time ago"
All three of the lions were displaced royalty, and Milele had no royalty or form of government (seemingly) until Mufasa and his gang showed up.
