I've made a conscious effort to live and thrive in Nigeria, I started as a Construction worker with ccecc then quit and started doing taxi, from there opened a shop where I sell phones and accessories in retail and after so many years of not getting what I want, I continued doing my taxi interstate to be precise, shuttling people from Southeast and southsouth to Lagos or Abuja on charter or what they call hire, 2022 I opened a luxury rental car company in Lagos online without owing a single luxury car but with the help of Google my business and some associates and companies who own these luxury vehicles like Landcruiser, Prado, Hilux, Coasters, Camrys etc. I only owned three Toyota Sienna but later sold two and retained one, people mostly connect with my company online and I can tell you that I've worked with people like Marvins record, So many high profile Emirs and Obas that I wouldn't want to mention their names but they don't know who they're dealing with as I'm mostly contacted online by their PA's who probably have not met me before, in 2023 Feb, I met some guys on twitter called Obidient tech space who offer online courses like front end, back end and full stack development course for a token and decided to enroll and it has been a bliss since, my phone business started paying off after 6 years courtesy of my wife, I dated her for four years before I married her on March 5th 2022, I also trained her on how to trade since she has never sold anything before, it took her time to learn but today she has mastered the craft, now I have time to do my transportation business and my online course too. I almost gave up but decided to stay put, if we put the effort we used in travelling overseas here in Africa, in few years time, we will succeed. Mind you I have a very little office space for my Lagos office because most of the transaction are done online and people trust and patronize me because Google verified my business page, address, home address etc
I see all these people risking their life as been greedy. They think when they get to Europe they will be picking money on the ground. Some of them had been lied to as to how much they can make in Europe.
Bro you have said it all let who have ear's listen, am currently in Germany I can confidently say risking your life coming here don't worth it. If you put same effort and resilience is put into proper perspective the sky is your limit.
To my African brothers and sisters, please think of a way to prosper in Africa. The dangers, perils, discrimination, abuse, and exploitation that awaits you in Europe or other countries that will hate you for your color and immigration status is a real factor in your journey. Please consider this factor before leaving your land because there is no place like home. Wishing you all the best, may God guide you and protect you.
I am not African, but my family has shares in companies with operations in a few dozen African countries. If Western, Chinese and Russian extraction companies left Africa tomorrow, there would be zero protection for Africa's corrupt politicians and you would see uprising after uprising with smart, benevolent African leaders replacing their puppet predecessors. I am sorry to say, but there is still a boot on the neck of Africa and it is not an African boot.
This film serves as a poignant reminder of the risks and sacrifices these individuals make, urging us to empathize and understand their plight. Ike's commitment to telling these stories is commendable, and his work as a Nollywood director adds even more depth and impact to this important narrative.

The end of this documentary almost made me cry, the hope and heartbreak intertwined in those two girl's eyes omg. DW documentaries are always the best. Lovely music, beautiful narration. Bravo.
The stories may be heartbreaking, but no state wants to be like Sweden, 7 deadly shootings dayly and a local police that cant handle it. All immigrants
I think it was done on them when they reached the shore, that the journey they're about to embark is a no joke. It broke my heart, hope they succeed. May God help my people. 🙏😭😭😭😭
I see myself in every one of the people in this documentary. Much love and peace to them, I hope they receive the desires of their heart in this lifetime
As bad as some people think Nigeria is…some people are making it big….and as Gud as some people think abroad is some people are still suffering there…this life no balance…make God open way for us all anywhere we are
There are better opportunities abroad, African leaders should be told the truth, there should be no sugar coating, personally I've written proposals to bank severally to fund my startup but to no avail, Nigeria kills dreams
The sacrifices these people have to make to seek a "better life" is heart wrenching. Their stories of tenacity and brevity is equally powerful. What a piece!
My heart is grieving, but I tears could not flow from eyes seeing the travails of Nigerians and fellow Africans in this struggle and triumph. We all need to join hands to address this problem across the continent Africa.

I really like that this film just shows the road. It is almost like a traditional road movie and a story of people and places. Its a very refeshing take on the subject and good to hear no political opinion, no judgement, no sensationalism, no good, no bad because there is already so much about that... It doesnt tell you, it shows you. What you see is what you get and that makes this a very relatable and human story.
If you are Igbo, you would appreciate this documentary more, from the music that started playing as his journey began to some of the analogies and references he made, he just fused where he was coming from into his story.
@@chineduobi3693 are you okay? How is my comment against any tribe. He clearly made some references that only people that understand igbo will get and appreciate and I was pointing it out but you want to come here and show total ignorance. So captivating, emotionally draining looking at the young women risking it, and through the lens of Ike getting to know people and places...we are all same humanity 💝
Suffering in your country surrounded by friends and family (loved ones) is way better than suffering in a foreign country by yourself all alone going through the most. 😢😢😢😢

I've watched this documentary twice and on both occasions the feelings are the same, almost hopelessness. Pls Africa we need to make our countries work, we need leaders that'll make a journey like this unnecessary.
This can’t be done without people themselves making the change… many Africans have wealth and education to return and grow Africa, if not yourselves then who?
Europe and North Africa are tightening their borders as we speak. It will become harder and harder to pass through the increasing border patrol officers and heat sensing moniters ect
Beautiful piece here I must say ❤️❤️ from the production to the conversations to the story telling, top notch ❤️ I hope our leaders watch this and see what they are doing to the youth . there is hope for Africa
I love this style of documentary film making. Kudos DW tv. Your documentaries are very informative and deeply inspiring albeit being truly sad sometimes 😢
This really broke my heart and have me in tears. I didn’t realise how harsh the reality of migration by road is. This made me really appreciate my situation and grateful. Seeing young people like me chasing their dream and taking big risk that could possibly even end in death or other things. Life is not fair.
All of you should follow the spirit of improvement and resilience that several Asian countries have had. A few decades ago they were very poor countries where misery and disease abounded and today they are becoming prosperous countries. Do not think about emigrating, but about making your country better for the next generation, there are no easy paths in life, everything requires effort and perseverance.

Disagree: I fell asleep... and had to comeback to it. There is no "lead up" no suspense .. and the topic is worn out. This documentary need more in my opinion; the editing is chop-suey
As a Moroccan, I have had veru very immense respect for my central African brothers ever since I was a child and I never knew why, they just seem like the most genuine, down to earth and peace loving people on earth, as well as the most resilient striving individuals.
I’m so emotional watching this film. I pray the two young ladies in the end had a safe a successful journey. I wonder if you will stay in contact with them? They are in my prayers. Thank you for capturing their journey.
Just so sad to see how people perish needlessly for lack of knowledge! Aside from the terrible hazards enroute, what skills do they have to live off in Europe? Kudos to Ike Nnaebue for this eye opener! Hope potential migrants watch and learn!
@@walli6388 I was traveling with a tour bus from Germany to Italy - Catolica - a few years ago, and as the bus was passing farmland in north Italy I saw them working in the blazing sun and picking tomatoes, they were also present at the beaches selling souvenirs to the tourists, I spoke to one of the young men, and asked him questions and he told me that it was an organized group, working for somebody and that I was the first person that day that spoke to him ( in french) like a human being,
Another very moving powerful documentary from DW. "For most people on this road Europe represents a life dream, a dream that is way beyond just a graphical location. This is an existential dream. This is not really about Europe.. the place. It's about opportunity and a chance to self-actualise... contributing to their society"
Immigration is not an inalienable right. It is a privilege and civil right. Mass immigration is entirely unjustified and integration is a form of colonialism. If I hear one more person say that it is "karma", then I will prove to you that this is not how karma works. You're nothing more than delusional hypocrites. Reality is too much for some people because you actually believe in the false concept of equity. The northern cultures are stronger because it's harder to survive in environments with fewer natural resources. These environments promote ingenuity. You can't use irrational excuses and colonialism to draw rational conclusions as to why each culture and society turned out differently when compared with one another. That is such a weak and illogical argument to make." We are poor and uneducated because of colonialism"... Sure.... it's utter nonsense. They were simply outmatched by a civilization with more technology. No one living today owes them anything. This is not how karma works you fool.
And no concern for the native populations of Europe? I just love the delusional hypocrisy of woke fools! Africans sold them into slavery and the White man actually abolished slavery before Africans and Asians. White culture didn't invent slavery. I just love the mass delusion!
Interesting! There have been many examples of countries in Europe that had dictators that were opressing their people and taking away the wealth, but the people of those countries united and brought down the dictators and created thriving democracies. But apparently Africans do not have the strength and courage for this, they prefer to just try to move to Europe illegally and look for a "nanny" to solve their problems.
When I left Nigeria for Europe many years ago, all I did was board a plane 😢 I’m deeply touched by the resilience, determination and hope among these people despite the dangers of this perilous route..... We don’t often hear the personal stories behind the news. And that soundtrack at the end is truly divine 👌🏽
This is soo emotional, i almost shed tears at the end. Seeing our young intelligent men and women saying that they can never return back to their home Country but prefer to take the perilous journey on the high sea to Europe is really unthinkable. I just pray that may God grant their wishes so they arrive safely. 🙏
This broke my heart, as an American living here in Africa and hearing so many stories of people trying to cross the open seas of a new life. I understand the desire as so many families depend on this opportunity while so many lose their lives. Africa is such a rich and resourceful continent we can have all the dreams and hopes of the west right here but how do we get from here to there? 😢😢😢😢
For starters...America and other countries that have & continue to prosper by dxploitomg Africa and her resources need to pay REPARTIONS along with STOPPING their interference in African Politics
@@hat880 Instead of building wealth, you wait around for someone to give you what you're owed... yet no one actually owes you anything. Africa needs to GROW UP. It's apparent that surviving in the north is harder. Just look at all the extremely strong northern cultures across the world. Grow up. Being a perpetual victim is unjustified.
@@ADUAquascaping I agree with you. I'm tired of blaming colonizers. SA had democracy 30 years ago but people still blame apartheid. Wake up Africa, we need leaders who understand what it means to be a leader. We must stop choosing bad leaders.

Good 👍
I see all these people risking their life as been greedy. They think when they get to Europe they will be picking money on the ground. Some of them had been lied to as to how much they can make in Europe.
It's people like you who I respect, not those that flee because they're too lazy to try.
Bro you have said it all let who have ear's listen, am currently in Germany I can confidently say risking your life coming here don't worth it. If you put same effort and resilience is put into proper perspective the sky is your limit.
Sounds like you & your wife are doing well in Nigeria. I wish I could master the art of trade.
