    On 6 September 2022, in northern Ghana, four children were taken, at gunpoint, from their home in the middle of the night.
    They were brought to a hotel, photographed, washed and fed. At sunrise, they were relocated to a shelter. Their families were left in the dark as to where and why.
    For the American charity coordinating the raid, it was a successful mission to rescue child slaves.
    For the families, it felt like a kidnapping leaving them bewildered and traumatised.
    What really happened to these children?
    With a trail of WhatsApp messages, secret filming, and a journey to some of the remotest areas of Ghana, Africa Eye brings you the story of what happens when good intentions go horribly wrong.

    Why does an American company have so much access to a sovereign nation to determine who our law enforcement should go after. This is legalized kidnapping and an atrocity. No company in Ghana or Africa period would be given this much access to any western country. We need to do more for the children.

    If all of the said "charity organizations" are investigated you will all be shocked. I worked for an international humanitarian organisation and everything I found out after 7 years of working there was so disgusting I could no longer stay for the money; I quit the job to no job. After one year outside of the box, I went to work for global corporate, then I realized how this firm was funding the said charity organizations and involved in modern day slavery. I quit for good working for these global firms where you have no clue what harm you are really supporting. Now I either work for myself or for small businesses where I'm working hand to hand with the owner.

    So its more of a racketeering thing, right? So IJM accuses some innocent Ghanaians of child trafficking and remove their children from their care. The poor Ghanaian is jailed for the crime. Then after a few years in prison, the other charity swoops in pretending to be the saviour of the poor Ghanaian who has been imprisoned unfairly. Ijm uses the story to fund-raise for their charity claiming they rescued children from slavery. The other charity uses the same story to also fund raise claiming they rescued a poor Ghanaian from an unjustified incarceration. Thats criminal!!! Meaning both charities are running a scam and playing with people's lives.

    The American charity needs to take into consideration the peculiar circumstances of these people and how things are economically difficult for them in that region. This is not a situation where there is plenty and children are trafficked due to greed. Instead of arresting the sick mom (amilade, apologies if I spelt this wrong) why not empower the family? And why is a sovereign nation who understands the peculiar situation of their own country allow its children to be treated in this manner 😢

    • @hassan_codes

    Thanks Kyenkyenhene and team for this enlightening documentary. It's shocking to see this happening. Where does the line between child exploitation and chores begin and end for these people? I guess they might now say a child walking home from school is being exploited because they're not being driven. It's ridiculous. I'm not saying that their mandate is bad, but they need to focus on doing more good than harm. The stories featured should be enough for them to seriously go back to the drawing board. Their targets sound like those in sales, or in insurance. The governments where these charities operate should be able to monitor and evaluate them to ensure that they are actually doing what they're supposed to be doing: ensuring that justice is served for all. In the instance of the sick mother and her children, provide support to them to ensure that she is lifted out of poverty. And instead of focusing on targets of just rescuing children, why not try focusing targets on helping those kids in need eat and live as normal a life as possible? Thanks again BBC Africa Eye and team for this. Keep it up.

    I have heard such a story from someone who was taken like that , not at gun point though but she is happy she was taken because she got a better life in the end. Based on my friend’s story, I should say this has been going on for more than 20 years. After some years, they took her back to her family so she can bond with them. When she told me the story I got so emotional but she was ok. It made me remember a movie I watched in the 2000s , “The Tall Man”. Where kids wrote letters for the tall man to smuggle them away to a place they didn’t know.

    Edem had to work to feed his ailing mother. Edem's been gone for 4 years now, mother is still alive and eating. Let the kids be. You can't be their responsibility at such a young age. I condemn the methods of this organisation, but I'm happy this is scaring families and discouraging them from offering their kids to fishermen for money. These kids are sent into deep waters with explosives and poisonous chemicals without any protection, doing the dangerous life-threatening fishing tasks that the fishermen don't want to do because they fear for their lives, and even die at times because they get entangled in the nets. Yes, let's fight the problem in a clean way, but stop putting your kid's lives in danger for a few cedis a day.

      @@HollyDunlap-eb9gyI disagree, if you're gonna make mistakes don't try at all. These are human lives that's being toyed with, not mere numbers on a screen. If I came into your home and took your child away will you see it as "a few mistakes" I doubt it.

      @@artsyfunnies9834 Please keep in mind that the child was kept safe, educated (for the first time ever), fed, and returned safely to her family. Yes, the family lost out on four months of free labour, that is true. Out of 40,000+ trafficked kids in Ghana, there are going to be times when rescuers make mistakes - bad intel happens. If you are saying rescuers should not even try because mistakes are inevitable, you are definitely going to see more kids sold into slavery, where they are beaten, abused (in every way), and treated like animals. The bad people aren't the rescuers, despite what the BBC would like you to believe. Having a goal to save 100 kids out of 40,000 is not a scandal.

      @makaitachikamhi2724 11 месяцев назад +2

      Wow... The family lost an uncle, and everyone was left traumatised during the process.
      And all you can say with sarcastic nuances is that "they lost 4 months of free labour".
      I don't see anything wrong with the BBC doing this feature because it shows the other side of NGO operations. Charity organisations can use this to learn how "mistakes" can negatively affect families. You are worried about carrying out your missions here on our continent, and you are least concerned about the mental implications that the process can have on our people and may lead to long-term repercussions. That fact causes you to ignore a lot of important facts; you and IJM have the same brain-results-and don't care about anything else. I am glad African Leaders are touching up and revising legislation relating to non-profit operations. Your defence of IJM is very suspicious, and your role in Africa ought to be investigated as well.

    • @HollyDunlap-eb9gy
      @HollyDunlap-eb9gy 11 месяцев назад

      @@makaitachikamhi2724 I definitely see what you're saying, but my problem is with the story's validity. Knowing IJM's track record of rescuing kids vs. BBC's track record of employing & protecting child abusers, anyone thinking critically should be curious to know if there is more to this story than meets the eye. Africans who are actually working on this problem in Africa are not buying this story. What is shocking to me is to see so few Africans questioning the motives of the BBC, which can call itself "BBC Africa" but is still British government-funded propaganda. Hiring an African face to deliver their agenda has always been the playbook. The amount of people viewing BBC Africa programming without questioning motive need to ask themselves how the British Government's other campaigns in Africa have worked out for them. It's wise to view any news story with a critical eye, and especially when the ones who stand to gain the most from the story are the actual child traffickers.

    When people are determined by the prejudices, they often don't try to understand the situations in their peculiarities, the good idea in its realising in practical reality can lead to bad outcomes.
    The tragedy here is the locals in this organisation seem not have been an added value in providing the possible peculiarties that may explain what they observed. And they are in front to celebrate a rescue operation.
    What life experience do they have?
    What life challenges do they have witnessed?
    People in the villages sending their young children to the uncles, aunties, etc in the city, how do they perceive it and what can be the determination?
    And people in city sending theirs to uncles, aunties in village, how do they perceive it and what can determine it?
    These are the things that should be explore in order to conceive the right solutions, solutions that manifest the peculiarty of each situation.
    But since they celebrate what they termed 'operations of rescue' that way, it suggsts you about the dynamic.
    They should have tried to understand. Having said that, this organisation isn't responsible. The responsible is the political leaders, it is the government. If they have proactively gone to assess the conditions in which those people are instead talking about the reform of international institutions, they could have had close to hand data concerning these millions who are not children nor family members of ministers and so on and who deserve to live a life.
