I would like to make more makeup / beauty related content, but would you be interested in that and if so, what would you like to see? I will not be testing a ton of new releases, for obvious reasons, but is it interesting enough to try new techniques or something different? 🤔
Yes more beauty content!! Panning projects would be fun. ☺️ I'd love to see pan those eyeshadows with your two palettes! And testing out new techniques for sure, plus your favorite techniques, multi-tasking products, mixing products for a new effect... Anything beauty related is fun! 😊
I love the E.L.F. bite size eye shadows because like you I do not go through eyeshadow before the expiration date. The ELF bite size is like $3-5 so having to throw it out didn't hurt as much compared to the Urban Decay shadows that cost more.
This was so insightful, & I completely agree that how we buy vs use makeup is wild. I think in the next few years, fresh face/no makeup will have a big comeback. The influence of “No makeup, makeup” over the past 2 years has been surprising (to me) but wonderful to see.
Hey! I found out your channel by the makeup declutter, a couple months ago and I did the same with all my makeup. A good amount of the products was expired and I promise to myself that I'll not buy anything that I don't feel the need to. Turns out that I don't miss any eyeshadow, blush, bronzer or even highlighther... my skin looks clean and hydrated, never felt so pretty. I'll love to see a video showing your current products as well. Anyway, thank you for sharing your jouney, teach me a lot. Greetings from Brazil!
Thank you so much for that lovely comment, I am so happy to hear you had a similar and positive experience as well! I love to hear it 🥰 I will definitely make a video on my current makeup "collection". Thank you for watching and following along the journey 💓
You seem so sweet! I can definitely agree with your mindset about make up, I did a big declutter months ago and I just got my order a couple days ago on some new affordable make up. I’m a stay at home Mom sometimes I struggle with feeling okay with myself, I realized makeup helped me feel okay and express myself. Kind of like a hobby but also I realized I don’t have to go out to wear makeup, I can feel beautiful when I wear it just as much as when I don’t.
I stopped buying makeup a while ago, and I was about to buy some more but this was my sign not to lol (I still have a lot of makeup left even though I stopped buying it for months)
@@SandraSkaar it really is. The only things I've ever been able to actually finish are foundation, concealer (thankfully I only buy one of those), and lip glosses. Everything else takes so long to use up especially eye shadow.
Oh my goodness, I can empathize with your being scared of recontamination! I recently had a horrible case of pinkeye for the first time, sadly had to toss all my eye makeup, and bought new ones. Then I got it AGAIN a few weeks later, and I waited sooo long to restart wearing makeup because I was terrified I would contaminate products for the 3rd time and not be able to afford to replace them lol.
Oh nooo, I am so sorry to hear that! It is awful, isn't it? I hope you won't have any more issues with it ♥ Throwing away everything even just once was enough motivation to keep my collection small, but it's a crazy expense to have to replace that many times, even if it is kept small.
Thank you for discussing the fact that makeup expires! I think the fact that a lot of makeup honestly is still good for a good while after the stated expiration date causes people to dismiss the idea it expires altogether, and that's a huge mistake. The risk increases the father you are from the expiration date, and so many factors affect it. I look at the huge, beautiful collections and all I can think of is how it's all slowly decomposing on the shelves, in worn. I used to be in the vice grip of makeup addiction back in the day, so I know how hard it is to deal with. I didn't go for quantity, but I would completely fixate on certain products, and then never almost never wear them so I wouldn't use them up. Then they'd expire. Or more alarmingly, they wouldn't, because they were so packed with preservatives. Then I developed dermatitis and couldn't wear any of them. I had to switch to very clean, natural products years before they were widely available. It was devastating.
I enjoy judgemental! Just kidding, I think you’re just expressing an opinion firmly and that’s great. Also you walked the talk this past year, so you’ve earned it. I’ve actually thought of your previous video several times looking at my own 'fits in one small tray' make up (a few mini palettes and blushes, two foundations, etc.) I haven’t bought any new makeup this year. I keep the current items going with alcohol cleans and washing brushes, and so far everything seems ok. I’m still tempted by palettes (especially Denona, don’t have any yet), but there aren’t any shadow colors I don’t already have, and I like a palette to be 90% colors I know I’ll wear, instead of panning 3 and ignoring 9. I stopped shopping make up for entertainment when the pandemic started and honestly it’s been very relaxing not having that be a shopping urge and area of spending anymore. There’s still tons of options in my little selection and it’s one less thing to waste time and money on. Real life fashion in general just feels way less showy and performative than pre-2020. Kudos on what you’ve done. You seem very content with it! p.s. I’d worry lipstick would be too waxy for cheeks and would clog up pores, causing breakouts, but you don’t seem to have had a problem. Porcelain complexion!
Haha! Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment, so many interesting points. I agree, now I can't imagine having the several drawers of makeup I used to. But that's definitely a "blind spot" in my eyeshadow palettes, I do wish I found a palette where I would use every single shadow, it's always annoying to repurchase something when you only hit pan on a few. I am absolutely fascinated with how both fashion and beauty has changed since 2020, even just seeing the changes for each year since is so interesting! Regarding the lipsticks, that's a really good point (that I did not think about at all, so I'm thankful I have not had an issue)! I can definitely see a lot of lipstick formulas that would not make great blush alternatives, and it will probably not work for everyone.
@@SandraSkaar I guess MAC Cosmetics would be good for building a truly individualized 100% palette, but I think it works out pricier than a premade higher-end palette. I put together a 4-shadow one once and then one of them ended up being totally different on than in the pan, plus a different looser texture than the others. So it’s always somewhat unpredictable, I guess.
@@SandraSkaarI wouldn't worry about lipsticks on cheeks. Make up artists do that all the time too. Especially matte or velvet lipsticks are fine and if you use cream blushes a lipstick ain't any different
Buying a lot of make up brings us all headaches 😅and there's no easy solution once you're there 😑 especially when you don't want to just trash it. Which to me is a horrible thought thinking about the waste and environment but you also can't easily give it away. We don't all have dozens of make up loving friends or huge families to gift to. I think we need to find a healthy for us balance. See what we can get use out of, maybe sell of things we can or give away but also throw away some things that simply don't work. We're not perfect and considering many of us can't even access most brands in store it's impossible to never make mistakes
I don't think this is about minimalism or any numbers... It's about what's right for you. You can't compare numbers between people with completely different tastes, preferences and needs. Someone that likes colours will automatically have more pans than someone who likes only neutrals. Or someone that only likes powders likely will have less than someone that enjoys multiple formulas. If you don't wear blush you'll have less than a blush lover etc etc there is no 1 recipe for everyone
I agree, but like Sandra herself said, the important thing is to know yourself and what you need/want to have and why. If don't enjoy wearing certain colours it's still easy to still get drawn to buying them because they look fun/pretty as products, and that's a trap. Or if you do enjoy some colours, it's easy to buy everything you see in those colours without thinking that you'll never finish any of these products, and that effectively they are the same (so they don't even give you variety).
@@SandraSkaar if I can get past the money I’ve spent of products I would throw 90% away. Until then I’ll just use and enjoy what I have. Luckily I’m huge on returning products that don’t work out or giving away to family and friends. So overall I enjoy my collection. But I’m done over consuming. I know what I like what works for me. I’ve implemented project pans and no buys which help in certain categories! Maybe one day I’ll get rid of it all
I 100 percent agree. I had my second baby and he was a terrible sleeper that first year and I had PPD and PPA and I started buying makeup to make myself feel better and for a fantasy version of myself that I just am not. I am now decluttering a lot of it and much of it was totally unused product. Such a waste of money and space and guilt now that I feel as I throw things out and give things away. Being a mom of two and a 3rd on the way 🤰🏻 I am craving simplicity in my makeup routine because with too much stuff I was having a lot of decision fatigue and just skipping makeup altogether most days because of it.

SO many great points in this video! I've been doing No Buy months and it's helped me understand a LOT about myself.
Please do a updated makeup collection and declutter
