I'd like to add one more point: Understand that your style & beauty needs will change over time. For example, the concealer that you love at 25 years old may not work for you as well at 35. So don't be afraid to reassess how things work for you & what your needs are periodically, & to get rid of things that you may love but that no longer serve you very well anymore. Nothing stays the same forever, & that's okay - just remember that you won't, either.

I agree with your point, so true. I declutter a lot of my makeup. Like concealer maybelline rewind when I was in 20s I like it but now I am in 30s my skin feel dry whenever I apply. And I switched to non dry formula for concealer and many more.

At age 54 I’ve embraced single eyeshadows as I was beginning to find that my aging eyes looked to overdone and tired with three or four shades on them. A sheer hue of shadow and a thin line of chocolate eyeliner on the top lid, with mascara is all I need at this age and stage of my life.

    • @puerry
      @puerry 2 месяца назад +3

I’m 18 but honestly I have the same approach to eye makeup. My everyday eye makeup is blending my concealer and setting powder a little into my inner corner/inner half of my lid, a natural bronzer as eyeshadow in the crease and outer corner, a dark brown eyeliner, brown mascara and a gold highlight in my inner corner. It’s the sweet spot for me and I find it looks the prettiest without looking overdone.

All of this hit home for me. I was really into trendy makeup for years, I had sooo many palettes and indie eyeshadows, I worked at ulta and I put a good chunk of my paycheck right back into there 😂 I had an insane amount of makeup that I just bought just to try. I held onto it for years due the sunk cost fallacy. Finally I had to throw it all away because it was all expired and I had just had two kids in two years so needless to say my priorities and my tastes had shifted dramatically. Now I’m rebuilding from the ground up and it feels so much more authentic and FUN than wildly trendy makeup. I look forward to doing my makeup every day and I’m never at a loss for what to do.

I had so much decision fatigue doing my makeup and hair when I had too many products. Would take forever. I never wanna go back to that!
I still have a proper collection but I put things into a daily makeup bag that gets used 9 days out of 10 and the rest is if an occasion or outfit really calls for something

My biggest issue is buying make up for my phantasy self.. someone I would like to be but I am just not. I always buy new lip products because I find them so pretty on others and it always looks so much more put together. But in real life I hate stuff on my lips and nothing looks like the color I thought it would be due to my already much pigmented lips. And I always feel like wearing a costume. .not being me when I wear a darker color or basically anything that is not my lip color. Still not sure how to get over that not constantly buying new stuff and then not using it

Maybe save your own comment somewhere on your phone and everytime you think about buying something, read your comment. After that ask yourself if the product would be for your „fantasy self“ or for you? I did something similiar and it helped a lot to make more conscious decisions.

I love this! I've come to realize recently that my personal style doesn't feel authentic or satisfying any more, and the question of "what makes me feel my best?" is SO important to think about. I've spent a lot of time and money on sheer to medium coverage foundation and super pigmented metallic eyeshadows, but I always feel more comfortable with concealer as foundation and a sheer-er, satiny eyeshadow.
Would love to see your take on how to make trends more personal! I also would love to see something about how to change up your look for the changing seasons (or even just variety!) while still staying true to your own style.

Since I'm 47 & have been wearing makeup since around age 11-12, my tastes & preferences have really been cyclical. I might enjoy creative colorful makeup for years & do "wild" looks & then suddenly enjoy wearing liner, mascara & lip balm only for years. For me, timeless is the tones I'm always drawn to; cool toned neutrals, "nude"/neutral blush, glossy lips with little color or cool toned color. The makeup items I absolutely blow through no matter what are mascara, brow products, liner, lip balm/gloss! It's always been this way since 30 some odd years ago! 😅

I really appreciate this Amanda. I was about to purchase another eyeshadow palette I don’t need because I’ve been watching too many videos that suggest wearing reddish shades that will make my eye color pop. I already know what flatters me and isn’t red. At 73 red around the eye just makes me look more tired than I already am. Speaking of red, I just want to say that I LOVED your recent red blush video. I’d been waiting for the perfect red forever and thanks to you, I found it with the Armani cheek tint. I’m anxious to do a little weeding out after this. Even at my age I remain a makeup addict and have way more than I need. But I really only love and treasure a few things from every category.

You're completely right!! It never felt right to me to wear foundation, even back in the 2016s when that was ALL the rage, especially the ultimate beauty guru full face trends.
I've spent enough money to learn that I just prefer concealer under my eyes and to cover my redness on my nose. I don't need foundation for that.
Your personal style matters more than trends. In this economy, can we really afford spending on all the dumb micro trends? Nope.

I’ve finally settled on an everyday routine that I’m confident in and lasts a full work day. It includes two different primers, a color corrector, a skin tint, powder, bronzer & blush (I also use these as my eyeshadow), a brow gel, mascara & lip gloss. In total just ten products and I’m confident it will look great all day. I use this minimal setup to wear just what I need to cover up the flaws that I’m insecure about and products to play up the features I’m confident with. I gave up on chasing trends a long time ago, I couldn’t keep up and by the time I’d finally get the hang of one we were on to the next. And very rarely did they actually suit my features 😅

We did not have social media and I think we were kind of forced to do this more due to having to depend on trial and error. Now I find myself getting back to really thinking more like this about make up. I am personally in this space right now and this video was really helpful.. Thanks! I always feel you are authentic in your videos.

Loved everything about this and reasons like these are why I like your channel so much. Makeup can be excess, trendy, and maximalist, but it doesn’t have to be and we can still be beauty obsessed. I’ve been persistent trying to curate my own makeup collection for me, not trends. Especially since learning my color season and trying to lean into my personal style, I just want it to be timeless for me always. I agree with a lot of your statements and I hope you can make more videos like this in the future! TY 🥰

I love that you’re consistent with the products you like! It’s a good reminder for me not to consume. And if you kept talking about how great a million different products were, I don’t think I could really understand your opinions and know what I might wanna try out (this is a problem I have with many beauty influencers). Even though I have different makeup and beauty preferences from you, this consistency is what makes me admire you and your content most. It makes me understand better why you might like one product over another (and why I may or may not like it based on those things!). Keep doing what you’re doing!

    Thank you for this! ♥️♥️♥️

I'm just buying way too much makeup. Makeup back in the 80 s and 90s were nothing like it is today. I have a problem of wanting to try everything. And it's getting really out of control. I look back and I've spent thousands of dollars this year. Idk I just need to use what I have . I really don't want anymore. I want to enjoy everything I'm blessed to have.
I may need to talk to my therapist. It's just a waste at this point. But the quality is amazing these days and I never had the opportunity for nice makeup years ago. 😢

I love these more theoretical makeup videos, or exploration of the mindset when selecting/applying products! There are many videos depicting what items are (subjectively) good, but less explanation of the individual mentality behind catering to preference, or how to develop our own style, down to products/colors or even textures and application methods. In my experience, those products you can depend on and enjoy applying become almost like fond friends, whether representing a certain era in life or forever, that you can look back on and cherish; it makes the makeup experience even for the average user extra special. And I'd love more videos on the topic, such as "how to play within your personal style" or how to relieve the "performance anxiety" you mentioned. Thank you!

I love this, agree with so much of it. One of my beauty resolutions was to spend my money on more shades of the products I love (like Lisa Eldridge Liquid Lurex eyeshadow) rather than trying other more affordable versions or dupes. Also to lean in to medium coverage base and not buy the latest skin tint.

I watch makeup videos still, but I just tried to do a full face and colorful eyes doesn't work anymore. Weight gain has made my heavy lids look heavier, and 5 years of not playing with makeup like I used to made me forget how to use it. I realize now a good bold mascara, brow brush tint, a pink tinted lip or red lipstick, and a neutral toned beige pink blush. Basically a very basic Parisienne look at 37 works on me now. I'm sad about all my colorful expensive palettes I wore, now collecting dust.

My brows are sparse now, so brow filling has become important. I love gloss so I put colors I love under clear gloss. Lisa Eldridge skin tint is the first time any "foundation" has ever looked right on me. Lisa's Vega eye palette and Urban Decay Space Cowboy are necessary. I really like the emphasis on preference and style, and the idea of staying true to yourself in a storm of trends presented in this video, and the tips/aspects you share are critical in helping people identify their styles and what might be needed to maintain a signature look! But I think that, unlike a capsule clothes collection, makeup is inherently ephemeral since it is consumed. The fact the products expire or get used up necessitates a constant (if slower than we see/expect) turnover which works against the idea of timelessness... I think it's okay to accept that, like trends, makeup in your life will inevitably come and go

I really want to build a curated collection where I truly enjoy interacting with each product on a practical level because it works for me, but also from a packaging standpoint and because it’s beautiful. I’ve been trying, but that has meant culling some things that I feel guilty about culling because I spent the money on them initially and then didn’t really use them much. I started overconsuming after my second child while dealing with pp depression that I didn’t fully realize I had at the time and have had to now deal with the repercussions. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would even say to consider the delivery system of the product. Yes it could achieve a nice look but are you annoyed by Appling liquid blush ? Are you going to reach for a a round potted creme blush instead because you don't like that delivery system ? You find it too fussy ? I think that often times we lie to ourselves about that and carry on with the purchase. It's just when we are faced on a daily about our choices for our makeup everyday that we realize that we are never reaching out for that product even if it's a good one.
Just a thought, it saved me from bad purchases many times ✨️

What a great video, I’ve been watching beauty RUclips lately and been tempted, but why waste good money on makeup I will never wear? Rally? Who needs 10 eyeshadow palettes when all I do is wear my bronzer as eyeshadow! 😊. Thank you for this video

This video is so timely for me. Yes, please, do a talk about selecting cosmetics that reflect our authentic selves.
For most of my adult life I delighted in expressing versions of myself through makeup and I enjoyed the makeup itself. I want to come back to that after abandoning that “hobby” for over a decade. But this time I want to do it with minimal consumption. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in much of what I’ve bought in the last year. The products are wonderful but wrong for me. For one thing it turns out that I can no longer abide glitter, no matter how subtle. Any guidance on sorting out what my new standards are will be greatly appreciated.

I try and try to love lip gloss ... I enjoy lip oils and lip balms. Thanks for making this vedio. It's like having permission to just say no to a trend. Now I can let go of all but one lip gloss, bronzers and contours.

Amanda has dry skin and as someone with dry skin, powders are not a standout products for that skin type. However Julia from Julia Adam’s MUA has oily skin and talks a lot about powders if that helps.

I love doing eye makeup and playing up my eyes with makeup. I don’t love lipstick or how it feels to wear (dries out my lips). The most robust part of my collection is eyeshadow and eye crayons, liquid liners etc. but I have one lipstick and one gloss. Lip products are never worth it to me

Thank you thank you🙌🫶. What a great video. I'm older so I feel I am ALWAYS on the search for make up base products that people talk about being so flattering. I'm NOW starting to be good at taking the advice from people around my same age or the ones who speak my make up language which I feel you do❤. I've been sooooo bad with fomo and feeling a lot like I already have something that works well and I don't need to try anything new. But I also do (rarely) find new things I'm happy I discovered sooo 🥴🤑

I love trying new products but honestly I come back to the same look always. Wet eye look, natural skin and blurred lip.
I also can relate to not getting into some viral trends knowing they aren’t for me, “I know purple blush will look a ‘bruise’ on me 😂”

I’m at a point in my age where I’m starting to realise how overconsumption isn’t good for us or the planet. To this day I’ve never bought a celebrity makeup/skincare I’m glad to say. My holy grail items are the ones I will be loyal to!
Urban decay eye primer is brilliant to stop concealer creasing.
    Mac Studio fix compact powder
    And Revlons rum raisin lipstick!
Don’t wear any eyeshadow on a daily basis so don’t need it.

I've not worn makeup regularly since I was in my 20's. But my boyfriend passed away in May.Because I have anxiety and depression and he was always my rock. I'm just not feeling very confident since. I thought I'd try wearing make-up again as a confidence boost and to pamper myself. I find your video refreshing. Because so many videos just push products and for someone like me it feels overwhelming. Thinking about just getting and using what you love makes total sense.
