@ItsjuuhsRome I'll say this. You need to watch some NFL hits, not taking away from rugby, I'm a fan obviously, but they ger vicious. Rugby players are much better at tackling. It's fun to see a former rugby player play in the NFL bc they are always punters. They don't just sit back and watch after a punt return, the get after it.
@daveandjessdivorced they aren't always punters. 90% of the punters are Australian Rules footballers, not rugby players (also a tough sport). There are also rugby players either currently in the NFL or previously in it, in other positions. Jordan Mailata is one of the best LTs in the NFL, for example. Rugby player. Haloti Ngata, pro bowler DT, grew up playing rugby. There's a few out there.
The thin helmets you see in Rugby Union are called scum caps. They are to stop your ears from getting ripped off in the scrum. They don’t offer much impact protection. This is Rugby league though. They are both tough games. League is quicker and hits are generally bigger. It is also an 80 minute game comprised of 2 half’s, of continuous play. No time outs, and all players play offence and defence.
Proper tackling technique is a core skill from early juniors up. Some of those hits are shoulder charges which is now banned due to the risk of hitting the opponents head.
Rugby is for all sizes, and we start playing at a young age. It's also a massive international sport. Rugby is actually safer then NFL. Great reaction.
