I had a very different childhood as an early Gen X-er. My mother stayed at home, the only mom on the street - and she was a "block parent" to help rescue kids who had trouble on the way home or couldn't get into their homes with the keys hung around their necks. My brother and I had warm cookies and milk served with a smile by mom when we got home from school. My father put seatbelts into their late 1950s sedan by 1965 and we always wore those. I would not have done well being kicked out of the house being a ravenous reader and often had friends over to play board games. Playing jacks was done with old golf balls compliments of my beloved grandfather because those bounce beautifully when playing those metal jacks.

The other dude is Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the greatest five players ever: Pele, Maradona, Messi, Cruyff, Zidane and then a stellar cast of the rest including guys like Zico, Socrates, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo (Brazil) and many many more from many countries.

This whole idea of giving a meaning to every decade spent on earth is so stupid and a way to make your group more important than they are...it takes a lot more time to make an impression on history. To clarify, the Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate is only really for the best player of the modern generation. None of them can match what Pelé has done so he is the real GOAT but right at the end of his career Messi finally matched what Maradona did, who was the second best player of all time. Pelé won 3 World Cups (Maradona and Messi have 1), played when the ball was much heavier, the offside rule was harsher for attackers, there were no yellow cards so offensive players were brutalized much more, and he faced what is to this day the statistically best defense in the history of the sport (Italian defense for that time). What is even crazier is that Pelé managed to stop a war just because the people fighting that war wanted to watch him play.

It's called "road racing" for a reason...... it's raced on public roads, not racetracks. As for the spectators sitting so close, well the best place to watch any event is as close as possible - -- especially when there's no entry fee (completely free to watch). In fact, the Isle of Man course is open to the public 30 minutes before the racing begins, and after each race it opens again. On Mad Sunday (middle weekend), you can actually go around the course as fast as you dare - - - cops won't give you any speeding fines!!!! I've did it, obviously in a car (AMG Mercedes with over 500bhp) - - - was up around 130mph going up the mountain, 2 bikes passed me and were gone, f**k knows what speed they were going, but it must have been 170+mph. One last thing, it's one of the only events in the world where both sexes compete on equal terms (fastest female lap is just under 120mph, average speed. Men is just over 135mph, average)

Andres Escobar the player who was gunned down was the result of a World Cup match between Colombia and the USA in the 94 World Cup. Colombia was favored to be one of the top teams in the tournament and were upset by the USA. Andres Escobar had an own goal (accidently scored on his own team) and was the deciding goal in the match. Colombia's chances fell apart after that. There is a documentary about it on ESPN (The Two Escobars I think is what it is called - It talks about how Pablo Escobar helped fuel the rise of Colombian Soccer in the 1980's and also the career of Andres Escobar and how Andres murder lead to the decline at that time of the Colombian football. And no Andres and Pablo were not related) Also some additional backstory/context to some of the moments in the video: The Sergio Aguero goal (Agueeeeerrrrrooooooo!) is probably one of the most astounding finishes to a regular season that I can think of. If Aguerro's team (Manchester City) lost or tied the game their crosstown rival, Manchester United, would have won the league. The guy you see in the Leicester City winning the Premier League clip is an amazing story in itself. The player, Jamie Vardy, is a literal rags to riches story. Before that season, Vardy was a Semi Pro player in one of the lower leagues and had a literal day job. With Leicester, he became one of the top scorers in the Premier League and was instrumental in Leicester winning the Premiership. The clips of Tottenham coming back against Ajax and Liverpool coming back against Barcelona - those matches happened on back to back nights. It was amazing. Also Liverpool's Manager, Jurgen Klopp, is one of my favorite managers. He's the sort of coach you would run through walls for if he asked you. (Sadly he stepped down as Liverpool's manager earlier this summer).

And as Guy Martin ( a brilliant m/cycle racer ) says riding on the Isle of Man TT road course is LIVING .Whereas riding on a normal race track is like riding on a merry-go-round .
