About all the fouls they did to Messi, in football (soccer) they have a rule which if the person who was fouled still has the ball, the ref can play advantage so the game doesn’t have to stop. If the ball is taken away by a foul, that’s when they stop the game. You can see the ref a few times put his hands up to signal advantage and to not stop the game. Penalties only happen inside the goalie box. If it’s outside, it’s a free kick. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense haha.

I prefer European football over soccer, so 'American football' it is. While I don't live in the US, I don't really mind what the US prefer. You do you. Referee will usually give Messi the chance to ride the challenges because he’s so good he could still make something happen even while being fouled/grabbed constantly
@@davesworldreacts There is a rule called 'playing advantage' on a foul though, as long as Messi escaped the foul and ends up in a better position than if the foul was put back, they will ignore the foul and allow play to continue and give the card after the end of the play
Dave and Jess, those are fouls and are normally called but the referee will not call it and let the play carry on if he/she deems there’s still an advantage (think possession and momentum of play) for the ball possessing team that could possibly lead to a goal. If the ball possessing team loses the ball as a result of the foul, the ref will stop the play, call the foul and bring the ball back to the location on the field where the foul was first committed, giving the ball to the team that was fouled. It is called “playing advantage”.
So, as long as you're in control of the ball , the opposite team can manhandled, within reason? Boy, I going to tear some refs up during my daughters football season!!! Thank you so much, guys, for being the COOLEST fans I've ever talked to!
@@davesworldreacts Yes as long as the ref interprets that the team with the ball may catch the defending team off balance , can get a goal or maintains possession as a team with disadvantage. Sometimes, a player that is fouled, and is not Messi, will stop running/playing to force the ref to give the foul call. If defending team is caught off balance positionally, and as in video player with ball is threatening with a counter attack and defender blatantly grabs them to stop the counter, the ref will not just call foul but also give a yellow card to defender. This is defender taking one for the team by carrying out a blatant “technical foul” on the ball carrier, similar to what’s done in basketball against a high scorer.
@@davesworldreacts If he has it was well earned because ,as you can see in the video, he would not go down easily, fake a foul or flop so he’s earned credibility and integrity on the pitch so refs will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Lionel ("Lee yo nell") Messi of Argentina is a once-in-a-generation soccer (football ⚽)phenomenon that we see over time... The 1 player who is so exceptional that no one can match him on the field in terms of skills, scoring and captivation... The player every single player looks at and goes, "No one can play that good..." Back in 1958, the phenomenon was Pele of Brazil... this short, black kid... only 17 years old... made his World Cup debut in Sweden and shocked everyone by winning Brazil their first World Cup title... By the 1962 World Cup, the knives were out for Pele and he was injured... but Brazil went on to win the title a second time... In 1966, Pele was so heavily marked that he fell short due to injury and Brazil was eliminated. His last World Cup in 1970 was Pele's ultimate triumph... Brazil went on to the final and won their 3rd World Cup title beating Italy 4 - 1 w/ Pele scoring and assisting. He played for Santos club in Brazil... and even played in the USA in the 70's. Diego Maradona of Argentina was the next phenomenon... He was stocky and a marvel on the field. He was 17 and passed over for Argentina's national team in 1978 when Argentina won their first World Cup title... He made his World Cup debut in 1982 and Maradona was already being brutalized on the field to stop him... But it was his 1986 World Cup performance where he single-handedly took Argentina to their 2nd World Cup title... Unfortunately, his injuries and Argentina's injuries left Maradona 1 World Cup title short as Argentina lost the final to Germany... He played in USA '94 World Cup, but after 2 matches, he tested positive for doping and was dismissed; Argentina was eliminated. Diego Maradona's off-field addiction would ultimately be his undoing... and his death at age 60. But he is revered almost as a deity in Argentina and club Napoli in Italy, where he helped the team and Italy's Serie A football league become the #1 league in the world between 1986 and 1990 Of course, there were stars that captured the attention of fans worldwide - Ronaldo Nazario of Brazil ... Zenedine Zidane of France ... Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal... Johan Cruyff on the Netherlands ... Neymar Jr. of Brazil... But there is only 1 spot reserved for the greatest of their time.
What a great history lesson! Thank you! On another note though. In ALL fairness, his name IS spelled with the 1st 4 words Lion then the El. So you can see where someone like us would pronounce it like it's spelled. And the dude playes like a lion anyway. I got your pronunciation on a sticky note on the podcast table now.
@@davesworldreacts It's fine... enunciation is tricky in various countries...France's Thierry Henry has his last name pronounced "Ahn ree"... Argentina's striker Angel DiMaria has his first name pronounced "Ahng - hell" ...etc.
To clarify, the Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate is only really for the best player of the modern generation. None of them can match what Pelé has done so he is the real GOAT but right at the end of his career Messi finally matched what Maradona did, who was the second best player of all time. Pelé won 3 World Cups (Maradona and Messi have 1), played when the ball was much heavier, the offside rule was harsher for attackers, there were no yellow cards so offensive players were brutalized much more, and he faced what is to this day the statistically best defense in the history of the sport (Italian defense for that time). What is even crazier is that Pelé managed to stop a war just because the people fighting that war wanted to watch him play.
@metastase895 Are you friggin serious!? He stopped a war!? Better get Messi and Ronaldo on the same page bc WWIII, is about to happen with China, Russia and the US.
you were not watching the goals here , just some dribling. you need to watch the real action, keep going guys, you still have 20 years of Messi to discover. Only somebody who actually played soccer can appreciate how great this guy is, anyway is worthy.
there is no debate C Ronaldo wanted to win 7 or 8 Ballon d'Ors, Messi won 8 Cristiano 5, Cristiano wanted to be the most winner of the Golden Boots, he got 4 Messi 6, The Best FIFA Player Ronaldo 2 Messi 3, Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year Messi 2 Ronaldo 0. Cristiano wanted to win the World Cup, he didn't achieve it, Messi won it in Qatar 2022. Messi fulfilled all of Cristiano's wishes
There is No debate in Football. Its just a fan base who claim Nuetrals will never debate .Everyone except a random fan base knows that Messi is the greatest player to ever play this game
Is that why he was 2 less World Cups than Pelé? American football is known as Gridiron (or unofficially fieldball) to those who follow it outside the U.S. The term Soccer is slang for association football (which is the official name) and was commonly used by the British until they abandoned it to avoid confusion with other football codes/rules such as rugby, Gaelic, aussie rules, gridiron, etc. Rugby was therefore also called rugby football or rugger at some point in history, but no longer as it is played mainly with the hands, like gridiron, and football has become more popular worldwide. The Olympic Committee have adopted football as the official name for association football, and the rest is history.
Holy crap! Awesome explanation.. I'll be dropping that knowledge on the golf course with my buds. They'll tell me to shut the F up, but I'll just call them dumb knuckle daggers who can't hit the driver.
Technically they are all football. The word existed prior to the codification of Association football and was a generic term for all sports played with a ball on foot as opposed to on horseback. Hence the reason other places around the world had games that they call football as they were all already playing their variation of football long before the game was invented and people aren't going to change what they call something just because a group of people in England decide to write down a few rules.
@@24magiccarrot Australia and South Africa have also abandoned "soccer" for football. So have Japan and South Korea, which were initially influenced by the U.S. Even though the word "sakka" is still used in their everyday discussions, the game is officially known as football.
@@human0_0skull It isn't officially known as football if it was official FIFA would trademark the name and prevent the NFL and Aussie Rules from being allowed to use the term. The word football pre-dates the invention of the game as such can't have any legally official usage. Referee doesn’t show cards when they make a foul on Messi because referee themselves knows what Messi capable of so they just let it go like that and if they grabbed literally dragged him pull down completely then only referee reacts otherwise it’s just goes like that 😂🤷🏻♂️ but it only happens with Messi if it’s other players which they easily go down so referee reacts immediately but with Messi it’s different

I'm getting hooked. I'm picking out jerseys if you can believe that
Honestly watching a RUclips video doesn’t stress enough how unreal it was watching live when he was in his prime. He would just create a chance out of nowhere and basically walk past multiple defenders making it look like a fluke and he’d do it again every time. Every touch was perfect and the timing didn’t give defenders a chance to react to the point he didn’t need to do a 100 different skills to dribble past defenders just the same body feint. Basically like one punch man
Nice watch that was. I'll give some clarity on why didn't they do anything about the fouls. So, when someone is fouled/stopped illegally, the referee is bound to stop the game for a free kick(if outside the box) or a penalty(inside the box). Also if it's a serious foul, yellow card or red card(sent off) is also given. But there's one more thing. If the team who is to get the freekick still has possession of the ball, and referee feels like it'd be an advantage to let the play continue rather than stop, then it's continued. As you can see here, Messi even after getting fouled, still has possession of the ball, thus referee playing the advantage. And once when the game stops next time, referees give warning or cards to the player who fouled. So yea.
Haha. Ok. You have to admit though Leon is a cool name though. There's also an accent barrier so we do our best. If you want me to do a shitty British accent to pronounce it right I will. Lol
A giant rock called American. We have a lot more sports than just Football and cricket. Don't know why we never really picked it up, but my guess? After the American Revolution, our founding fatheres were like, Fuk British sports, let's make our own shit, call it football and England can suck Florida's dangling dick. Just a theory, I really don't know why. My kids played and well, it's not at your guys level, you wouldn't enjoy it either.....ponder that.

Bahhhhh!!!! That is hilarious!!!
@@davesworldreacts
I don’t have the audacity to speak for all Europeans, but I can't recall anyone using another name other than 'American football.' You named it football, and we respect that. The term 'American' is only added to distinguish between our two sports. Using another name would breach the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I prefer European football over soccer, so 'American football' it is.
While I don't live in the US, I don't really mind what the US prefer. You do you. But if I were a resident who loved our version of football, it would feel painful every time someone said 'soccer.' It just sounds weird to me. Why couldn't you come up with a better name than one that, when spoken often, sounds like 'sucker'?
@haraldchristiansagevik6869 I love your chill attitude towards the subject of naming conventions. I agree with you though. For me it's weird and difficult not to day soccer, product of my environment and all.

"Barry Sanders of soccer" is a great catch. His technical ability is of course what most people notice but arguably the more important factor is what you mentioned with the likeness with Barry. Can't touch him, can't live with him when he's making a run. Balance is off the charts.
Thank you! That's exactly what I was saying, the movement, the agility, it's a once in a lifetime player that can do that. Obviously I wasn't saying Barry was comparable to Messi in his football abilities, like other people thought. Sometimes, I really think people can't put the puzzles together. Now Messi couldn't do what Barry did and Barry couldn't do what Messi did. Referee will usually give Messi the chance to ride the challenges because he’s so good he could still make something happen even while being fouled/grabbed constantly
Dude they grab the shit out of him. He's being me too'd
@@davesworldreacts There is a rule called 'playing advantage' on a foul though, as long as Messi escaped the foul and ends up in a better position than if the foul was put back, they will ignore the foul and allow play to continue and give the card after the end of the play

Messi the ultimate GOAT 8 Balloon d'or and a worldcup.
thats the GOAT right here
Dave and Jess, those are fouls and are normally called but the referee will not call it and let the play carry on if he/she deems there’s still an advantage (think possession and momentum of play) for the ball possessing team that could possibly lead to a goal.
@@davesworldreacts
Yes as long as the ref interprets that the team with the ball may catch the defending team off balance , can get a goal or maintains possession as a team with disadvantage.
@@pablolues845 so the consensus is Messi gets special treatment? Like Tom Brady [NFL] When he played?
@@davesworldreacts
If he has it was well earned because ,as you can see in the video, he would not go down easily, fake a foul or flop so he’s earned credibility and integrity on the pitch so refs will give him the benefit of the doubt.
Best explanation yet!.

Lionel ("Lee yo nell") Messi of Argentina is a once-in-a-generation soccer (football ⚽)phenomenon that we see over time... The 1 player who is so exceptional that no one can match him on the field in terms of skills, scoring and captivation... The player every single player looks at and goes, "No one can play that good..."
Back in 1958, the phenomenon was Pele of Brazil... this short, black kid... only 17 years old... made his World Cup debut in Sweden and shocked everyone by winning Brazil their first World Cup title...
But he is revered almost as a deity in Argentina and club Napoli in Italy, where he helped the team and Italy's Serie A football league become the #1 league in the world between 1986 and 1990
Of course, there were stars that captured the attention of fans worldwide - Ronaldo Nazario of Brazil ...
@sumonjamal1653 See! Other people pronounce it different too! Plus you habe regional dialects.
Messi, Messi, Messi...
you were not watching the goals here , just some dribling. you need to watch the real action, keep going guys, you still have 20 years of Messi to discover. Only somebody who actually played soccer can appreciate how great this guy is, anyway is worthy.
I love that you want to know about futbol. Greetings from Argentina
there is no debate C Ronaldo wanted to win 7 or 8 Ballon d'Ors, Messi won 8 Cristiano 5, Cristiano wanted to be the most winner of the Golden Boots, he got 4 Messi 6, The Best FIFA Player Ronaldo 2 Messi 3, Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year Messi 2 Ronaldo 0.
You know all modern football moves, style and pace were done by Pelé way back when there were no yellow cards, the ball was way heavier, the offside rule was even harsher for attackers and he was facing what is he statistically best defense in the history of football to this day (Italian defense)?

@@davesworldreacts haha for sure
Colloquially people might use it and consider it official but it has no legal or historical grounding.

We know the sport. Our schools play. We have teams. Our daughter even plays. I think it's the same reason NFL football has not caught on globally. The availability to watch it at the pro level in America is pretty exclusive bigger cities, and not accessible to most Americans at that level. Basically like one punch man
@@farai3085 he is amazing. He's showing up everywhere in the US. Reminds me of the buzz when Jordan hit the NBA
The video is lagging like crazy, you're really missing out if you're watching it like that
Nice watch that was. So yea.
AWESOME EXPLANATION!!!
