I love this. I used to work at Ralli-Art MMSP when Mitsubishi was in the WRC, the last drivers if you will, Rovanpera/Panizzi/Galli and until you have seen what goes into building a competing car from scratch you have no idea. The research and development is astounding before even starting a build.

Glad subaru is getting back to rally even though it isnt wrc, but if they do what they say hopefully it will bring other manufacturers cough toyota and one more (audi?) We will have a nice high tier rally in North America
Just the shell is factory everything else is custom, people actually think STI parts where on the last car lol they are using the same engine from the last car and Trans which are custom race spec stuff etc
randomly met Lance, most down to earth, nice guy. I drive a 2016 WRX, so he was super interested in how I liked the car, what I'd done to, and with it. Guys like that, and what VSC are doing, are what have me looking at the new WRX 🙂
Same I saw Subie drop the STi as a way of them throwing in the towel. They went from making some of the best STi's to come out of Subaru in a while and then just stopped the program in a way. But seeing some of the newer WRX mods and performance brands on board still supporting it and even some doing more it's given me hope that they can still put out a decent AWD turbo car.
I think it's great with changes that will increase popularity here in the states. I'd love to see it as big as outside of the states. I'm very excited about this build. I hope we get updates soon.
Having toured the VTSC facility, this video is just that much cooler. Sadly, you couldn't show the new car when I toured.... I'm really looking forward to the next video.
Great to see the regulations are moving closer to R5 and Rally2. If Subaru see they can be competitive against these cars, maybe they might have a little look at actually entering the WRC in that class 👀

Ken was also using a WRC car. With Ken's skills along with that car, it's impressive that Semenuk was able to beat him. He only beat him by 0:00.9. Damn near a tie.
Honestly should have just gone for a full Rally2/R5 class rules so at least people all over the world can order then and see more subaru's back in rally. Hell even toyota is making a R2. Yes you won't beat the skoda's or that in the first year but at least it will be a great battle, and hell VSC you stuck with Rallycross for so long, at least a R2/R5 would grow the brand worldwide and help bring something back to the brand after killing the STi
Not really an option, the engine in this car is already significantly smaller than a factory WRX engine, and they'd need to lop an additional .4 liters off of it to fit regulations.

ARA should go to FIA rules that would allow international competitors to come in and be competitive, increase the amount of available cars for privateers, and why not Subaru going to a group N+ spec, you know a spec that privateers can buy a WRX and modify to be competitive.
There is a huge difference between the platforms of the VT15 R and the current WRX from steel MPA classification and body design for rigitidy & suspension. I feel that the current WRX and there product will be totally different, only the shell will look alike. Still I suppose that what marketing requires. RIP Sti.

The editing of this video was all over the damn place, couldn't tell what the hell was going on. Quit the crazy editing and give clear and concise narration in steps. Kept going back and forth between quick cuts of tearing down the new car, tearing down the old car, building the old car, and rally footage. I don't have ADHD but you're gonna give me it.

@@stephenschenider4007 the EJ25 isn't what makes the car an STI vs a WRX, it's primarily the differentials, especially the center diff. They could easily have made an STI of the current new WRX while using the FA engine.

How much would it cost Subaru to license and build the 2.0 and or 2.5 liter 718 engines? It's hard to imagine it would cost more overall than for Subaru to do their own development work, and I don't think Porsche would consider a WRX / STI in the same market as a Cayman. One can dream anyhow...

Subaru, I want to see the body camo print as a shirt, sweatshirt, beanie, or even as socks. Very clever how you worked in the logo and built the swirlies around it. so, when is the Crosstrek rally car getting put together? Any plans for a Legacy rally car? Pump some blood into the dull sedan and introduce the next gen Legacy Spec-B, or in this case, a Spec-R (R is for rally if you didn't catch it at first...)

@@SuzukiKid400 Granted, I've already bought my car and it was the styling of the VB that made me not get it over a GR86, but it would be nice if the DCCD transmission was offered in it. To me, when you get an STi, it's the transmission that makes the biggest difference. Suspension is easier to upgrade than it is to swap a transmission. That, and the VB already has enough power with much more on the table.
Agreed the tranny could be upgraded. But in stock form, the VB is a great car. I have no interest in modifying the suspension as OEM suspension is just so good these days.
Here’s an idea Subaru…use your current platforms that you promote so religiously to use in Rally stages, to go hand in hand with your word! Like the brand new SPT transmission? Don’t you think you should have used the GT model for this years rally events, and utilize your new performance transmission!?
The SPT is meant for regular driving. These cars have had their own specially built transmissions for ages to take the kind of beating expected, but also in spec with whatever rules they need to follow and also to be replaceable/serviceable as needed in the field. They are extremely expensive.
They only used the shell of the sti so doesn't really matter what shell they use cause there ain't no sti parts in last car or the current car, the engine and Trans are custom or race spec parts adapted for these shells
This was a really good introduction for what we are to expect from this new platform. Really enjoyed the video with Brandon Semenuk on the Dirt Fish channel as well and really really looking forward to seeing more of this car. I think the suspension pickup points have to be within a tight window of the factory points. The engine is based on the production engine as well, you just don't see that in this video because it's off in the shop getting improved bits added on.

It is interesting that ARA wants a privateer like myself would be meaning I build my rally car out of $300 shell with my friends and may be able to compete with the Vermont Sports Car is a tall task. In the end if I can beat you guys and girls with a thousand dollar total car do I get extra points😂😂😂😂. Seriously though I love this level of competition from VSC!
For those of you complaining... Yall do know they only use the shell and everything else is custom made and not a sti part to begin with? even the previous car didnt have a sti drivetrain so this new car is using the same custom setup they used on the previous with some tweeks
When we took a tour of the shop they said it was basically because there's no option for using lifts in service at the events. Work on it at the shop the same way they'd work on it at the rally. If there's something that's too difficult to do without a lift then it wasn't designed properly.

It's quite sad what Subaru is doing to the STI brand. They are reserving it because they're probably gonna make it an electric car.
They lost their way when it comes to their quirky enthusiast cars. They killed the Forester XT and are working on doing the same to the WRX now.
