The polygraph isn't a lie detector, it's an interrogation tool. John Larsen, the creator of the original iteration of the machine, the cardio-pneumo-pyschogram, spent his remaining days trying to discredit his own invention because he knew it was a dangerous fraud. Can't imagine how many lives it unfairly ruined on this vile programme.
Yeah exactly you might as well have random people stand up there and say if someone is telling the truth or not. The Creator said it was The worst invention he ever made it's no more accurate than a coin flip.
That reminds me of the guy that originally proposed the idea of Alpha wolves in wolf packs. After publishing his results he realized it was incorrect because he was using domesticated wolves instead of wild ones. He spent the rest of his life trying to tell everyone that he was wrong, but his original report was far too well by that point for him to undo it and correct himself.

If a polygraph was deadly accurate they would be used in pretty much every court case going. As it is, I am not sure any country uses polygraph tests as proof of innocence or guilt as as you say, they are not accurate. Many factors can throw a polygraph off. But put one on a show that is watched mostly by the lowest common denominator, then of course it adds spice to those ridiculous stories. Jeremy Kyle was, is and always will be an utter scumbag.
@@albinofroggy It's a really interesting topic, and far more common than people realise especially in the medical science and research field. Famously, Sigmund Freud refuted his research and diagnoses of female hysteria. The monster becomes bigger than the box it came from.
What pissed me off the most was the sheer hypocrisy of him, he berated and belittled people for having addictions yet he had a well known Gambling addiction.

Where Kyle grew up is very telling about his personality honestly. Reading is comparable to somewhere like Harvard elsewhere or MIT in England. It’s the place you go if you want to be a spoiled twat. You want privileged, assholish, white snobbish pricks straight out of an American secondary school movie? Go to Reading or Harvard.

Failing a polygraph is as simple as having very discrepant reactions from baseline, this guy, even if a pathological liar, would have likely been so emotionally distraught over the issues prior to coming on the show, that his responses would be deviating from baseline.

One point of contention I always have with these shows is they really need to start calling the tests the appropriate name, polygraphs, and it needs to be shouted in the heavens that polygraphs are useless. The only thing they measure is heart rate, respiration and perspiration and cannot determine if the reaction was based on lying, nervousness, or any other factor.

The act of taking a polygraph can be so nerve wracking that it'll set them off. They need to be disowned and removed entirely because of how bad they are.
The best argument against the polygraph is the case of Aldrich Ames, who rose to be DIRECTOR OF THE CIA despite being a SOVIET SPY. They are very fond of polygraphs in the CIA. Either they failed to show he was lying, or they did show he was lying but the operators assumed the results were nonsense.

I remember this one episode where thie little girl was accused of theft and she denied it over and over and was sobbing and was surrounded by her family cameras and Jeremy all hounding her and she said yes finally, but it was so fucking clear she was just breaking under the pressure. That was the final straw for me.

In my country there is a show that has some similarities with this one. About two years ago a woman came on the show talking about why she ran away from her husband that was abusive, the guests and host ridiculed her and said it wasn’t that serious and said “ that’s what happens in love” A few months go by and her ex-husband breaks into her house and murders her and her teenage son. Sadly no one lost their job as the show is still going on like nothing happened.

My sister used to watch this show a lot and I never got the appeal of it. When I asked her, "Why do you watch this show?", her response was "because it makes me feel better about my situation". Your point about people who watch it being people in similar or relatable situations to these people really rang true there.
Like I could listen to Steve O talk about his drug problems than have to witness someone being bullied and exploited over their issues
What's wrong with finding solace that you could be worse? I think internet lolcows serve the same purpose of ''hey, you might be bad but at least you're not this person'' which is a comforting thing for many people and helps them shift the negative perspective about themselves, because we need to be reminded that we could be a lot worse and that there is proof of that in the flesh.

I worked with someone whose brother went on the JK show. When he told me about it he was talking about how they pay the guests, put them up in a hotel and the potential for fame was also a factor. They were taking advantage of people living in poverty, straight up. What's a couple of hundred quid to the production company that makes one of the most popular TV show? Nothing. But to these people it was substantial.
I wasn't aware of the added psychological manipulation, but it doesn't surprise me.
And even after people have killed themselves, Kyle is now blaming the matrix for getting him cancelled. What a disgusting psychopath.

I always wondered why would people act so over the top on these shows. Why it was so easy to be undignified. I thought they must be actors, no they were just poor people told to act. I lived near poor area and they never acted like this on real life even if there was alcohol and drugs involved. These shows are the worst. At least Roman colusseum didn't make the lion and gladiator go through polygraph to prove they didn't cheat. I think even the most carnage-loving roman would have said "Well this is f'd up."

Jeremy Kyle seems to be a major example of how "cancel culture" often just amounts to celebs and other powerful people whining when they face any consequences for what they say or do. Especially when they've gotten used to being "untouchable".

99% of cancellations are everyday people like Emmanuel Cafferty getting fired/evicted etc. for jokes, circle game, wrongthink and other BS reasons that hardly anyone hears about.
0.9% of cancellations are celebrities like Johny Depp, Jonah Hill or Gina Carano that didn't do anything wrong but were still harassed based on unproven/false allegations or wrongthink.
0.1% of cancellations are people that actually deserved the ire like in this case.
So yeah - glorify a system with an accuracy of 1 in 1000.
People speak as if it's a new thing. As if historically there hasn't been precedent for individuals being persecuted for believing in or saying a certain thing. The difference now is we all have interent access and busted social filters.

I'm not from the UK, but i remember stumbling on clips of the show on you tube and "hard to look away" is a good description.
I just remember felling terribly sorry for so many of those people. Sure, you'd have vile, evil and stupid people, but there were also good, lost and victmized people, looking for help and falling into the show's trap.
other main talk shows use the same tactics,getting the guests hyped up before they come into the main stage ,to go and fight straight away...its well known by now ,dr phil,springer,and them others that are similar...
I remember years ago I used to watch Jeremy Kyle, and like most people back then, I used to find it slightly amusing. It wasn't something I would pay too much attention to, I would just casually watch it while I was walking past etc.
I remember almost getting into a fight at 10AM in the morning, with a guy I used to work with. He had been drinking the night before, and was still drunk, and we were watching Jeremy Kyle at work.
The person on the stage was being ripped apart with Jeremy's usual abuse, and the drunk guy sitting next to me was loving it. He was shouting at the TV, he was begging Jeremy to punch the guy etc, and I remember starting to feel more and more aggravated with how much he was enjoying it.
So I just leaned over to the drunk and told him to shut the fuck up, or else I was going to drag him into the toilet and beat the shit out of him. Predictably, he backed down (although he kept glaring at me when he thought I wasn't looking, as he didn't have the balls to do anything about it).
I remember thinking at the time, this guy is the Jeremy Kyle audience. A bunch of spineless, nasty little bastards who get off watching other people being humiliated.
This is why so many people have a deep sense of there being something wrong with the Jeremy Kyle show. Enjoying it the equivalent of cheering while you watch a slave getting the skin whipped off his back, or Christians being thrown to the lions in the grand arena. You would have to be a nasty angry sick little shit to enjoy it.

i belive he even aplogized for the first 2 or 3 seasons of the show its why its the only "lie dectector" show i watch n even then many times it does feel annoying how the audience clearly is just watching it like a boxing match.

Are we talking about the part where he threw an envelope at one of his guests, and then shat himself when the guest threw the envelope back at him and hit him in the back of the head? That was priceless, he looked terrified.
My sister used to watch this a lot as a teenager and I kept saying "why do you watch this?" - she never had an answer. As for Jeremy Kyle himself, there was one show where he was walking around somewhere with a group of bodyguards and he began coughing. The camera immediately stopped because someone had fired CS spray at him from a distance, and he later said that thankfully his security team got him to safety, and I couldn't help but think of his entitlement. Sure, getting attacked with CS gas is not pleasant at all, but he spoke of his security team so nonchalantly as if everyone has one.
I come from a low income area of Yorkshire. My uncle was on the show once and my brother was invited on twice (but refused). The craziest part is that the producers don't need to hunt to find the most exploitable in society - these people saw it as genuine conflict resolution and offered themselves up willingly.
Indeed, show was ubiquitous in the Midlands. I'm from Derbyshire myself and everyone watched it, every estate had multiple people who went on.

That was the case, the two-part documentary showed that producers who came forward anonymously said that in the last 2-3 years of the show, finding guests had become very difficult due to previous guests attempting to go public before the show was cancelled.

@@LeniDell Springer was heavily scripted. One of my neighbors went on twice lol He has 2 completely different storylines (even different names) & just told to act as ridiculous as possible. It was a free trip to Chicago, & the show covered flights, hotels etc.
In Spain we had some similar shows. Not as extreme as guests were not lied to, but mostly the same. One of them, called “El diario de Patricia” (Patricia’s diary) ended after they tried to reunite a woman with her abuser and he asked her to marry live, and she refused. He killed her not long after and the show got cancelled.

When I was growing up in UK this show was all a lot of people would talk about, I couldn't sit through one episode I felt so uncomfortable watching it. It was so popular to the fact that when all the controversies came to light people would often ignore it and not blame Jeremy at all, even upset when the show stopped airing.

I graduated with several degrees related to Media and radio production and could not get a job in the industry since, I have no experience, and two I have no "recommendations"'. Basically I was a nobody, since my family was not relaated to the business at all. I survived thruough doing other jobs. I wish I could be given that opportunity that this jerk wasted by bullying people on tv. i think I could have made a difference.

What happened to Steve Dymond is genuinely awful. He and the other victims of these types of shows deserved real help from actual professionals who respected them as people.
His own family didn’t blame Jeremy. And all that “we care” bollocks ITV spouted when they cancelled Jeremy is a load of bull*t because Love Island has 2 deaths directly connected to that show (and arguably a 3rd) but is still on the air … so tits and arses hanging out is fine but not a show that genuinely helped people? Having faith in "Experts" is a huge mistake. They know very little and the moniker "expert" is just to convinced people with no faith in their own intellectual faculties. Never believe Experts. I remember a guy recounting the time he was an audience member for the Jeremy Kyle show after his friend got tickets for him, his girlfriend and himself.
This was on TikTok and it was long ago so I may get things wrong.
They took a minibus to the studio where the organisers encouraged everyone on the minibus to drink so when they arrived they’ll get “easy” reactions. They then stood outside the studio for 45 minutes to an hour since they film 2 episodes a day so they rotate the audience around from morning to afternoon. He was given the seat and even showed footage of him sitting in the audience in a wide shot. He said that the microphone for Jeremy and the guests were low while the music was loud (yes the heavy rock was blasting through the speakers and which was a harsh wake up call from the mumbling silence).
During the breaks (and before the show I should have mentioned) there will be someone like a producer or Jeremy would go around the audience to talk to them and mostly talk to them the way that they talk to the guests. Taking jabs at the appearances and what the person does in a job. Important to not that the op was a heavyset person (no insult) and he kept quiet so by the time the producer/Jeremy got to him they didn’t hold back. Saying about how he wasn’t much to talk and how “he must’ve had a good feast before he left”. At that point op was pissed off but couldn’t leave. Eventually the filming ended and they were herded onto the minibus where now everyone has either been tired out or passed out from the alcohol taking effect. He says he only watched the episode he was in and never watched the show again; more so than before.
Not only were they negligent of their guests but also the audience.
The saddest episode I can remember, and an episode which is probably only remembered by me and those guests as it passed un remarked upon, was were Jeremy Kyle met his match in manipulation and superiority. And was reeled in hook line and sinker.
A narcissistic, psychopathic abusive man had stolen the children from their mother and kept them separated. He had spread loads of rumors about her as a mother, as an abandoner. She had once got close enough to see her children over the back garden fence before he came out and beat her unconscious! She trusted Jeramey.
He didn't realise that in the UK possession is custody when it comes to kids and perants.....and he had been taken in by this man. So this poor women met with two men berating her and abusing her and left with a whole audience thinking she was the terrible abuser and abandoner this psychopath had painted her to be.
Alright, now this is too much. That poor soul lost her kids, the only possession mothers are close with. I really now want him to rot in hell with the guy.
I was standing outside a hospital unit once and this guy starts to talk to me, he said that him and his 2 brothers went on the JK show. They did it because they were promised aftercare, all three were alcoholics/drug addicts. They didnt recieve any aftercare and his brothers died, he looked very unwell. I dont know if its true, i think it was and he just wanted to tell as many people as possible. I hope he's still alive and got to see that shit show cancelled

@@WobblesandBean I dunno, the act of saying "I was in the navy" when you weren't is very different from the act of having sex with someone besides your partner. We don't know if Dymond was seeing other people, but I don't think we should use his compulsive lying as a reason to assume he was unfaithful, particularly since he's now passed and can't defend himself.
I was always suspicious about how come the guests would EVERY SINGLE TIME go running into the stage to fight the other guests they were in a conflict with. Usually it doesn't work that way, you would first have them quiet and not even looking at each other and then they'd start arguing and then maybe and ONLY just maybe a scuffle. No, in this show they went right for the climax and my mind would always brush it off as "these are just chavs who can't control their temper". What you said about them getting manipulated for hours each in separate rooms makes so much sense now, I guess I just wasn't smart enough to understand how sick and evil these producers are to exploit vulnerable people to an extent like that.
As for jeremy, he needs to be in jail.
My favourite thing about the show was that if the person he was talking trash to would challenge him, he would immediately hide behind his hired muscle and keep talking trash to them.
He literally acted like that one kid in high school who talked trash and hid behind his friends when he was challenged on national television with a live studio audience.

I never watched this drivel, I always thought watching grass grow or as a special treat maybe watching water evaporate would be much better entertainment. Several people have said that it would have been. I heard about this TV "Star" (in reality a crappite) after the case which brought the show's downfall. Always liked to big it up in the "Big I Am" style on a show which was so hammed up for day time television (aka utter garbage) it was embarrassing. When it came to the crunch after it was decided that the show was to be discontinued where was Big Man then eh ? Hiding, nowhere to be seen proving to be the cowardly arse wipe he truly was.

Always people born into wealth and privilege like Jeremy Kyle who suffer the absolute least but whine about it more than anybody. Ultimately these people are weak, and without us poors feeding them and paving their roads and funding their programs they'd all starve.
I was on the Trisha show for part of one episode to support my mum who perhaps still hasn't got over my dad taking his own life, her finding him and the complete opposite of support from my dad's family even though they were approached by her who begged them for the help they failed to offer in any measurable amount whatsoever.
The Trisha show done similar things to me and my mum to what you've described here. I was only maybe 20 or younger. They hounded me and asked me very detailed and upsetting questions throughout what could be described as a police investigation interview. The two girls that interviewed me came across as my best friend when in reality the things they were saying to me should have been illegal. We were also split up for a very long time but my memory of that day is extremely hazy. When someone goes through trauma especially repeated trauma you get to learn to erase certain things and it can be hard to remember even if you want to. The Trisha show came across as a nice talk show. But the reality was we were abused with icing on top . The Jeremy Kyle show needs to be held accountable for his 14 years of abuse of vulnerable people.

I was in the audience a while back. The tickets were free and we were having a night out in Greater Manchester anyway so we went. Jeremy was very rude to his staff, swearing and throwing his earpiece at them. What I saw live was completely different to when it aired on tv. Oh and also there are cues on when to boo, cheer and clap.
I wonder how many relationships have been destroyed because of the "lie detector" test. In no way does it detect lies, nor does it make it easier to detect lies.
In fairness 99.9% of the 'relationships' were already broken beyond repair. Toxic relationships wasn't anything new. The show simply exploited it for entertainment.

At the end of the day the only people who know what the tests mean are the ones doing the test, so how do we the Audience know if they themselves are telling the truth (Ironic, I know).

i knew a few people who went on the show from my estate, its hard to overstate how much of a cultural phenomenon it was in the UK. the lie detector test thing had everyone believing they were real. it was always mad to me that nobody questioned it, ever.
they made it out to be a way to work out your issues without needing the money, but, really it was just exploitation of people they knew they could get away with.
It really should be more common knowledge that lie detectors are flawed at best. All they can do is give a slight indication towards the truth, they can't confirm anything.

My GP surgery used to have the TV on all day, and since I was usually there in the morning they had Jeremy Kyle on. Can barely think of a worse thing to be showing to patients. They no longer have a TV on thankfully.

The abortion clinic I once used had this on in the lobby. Can you even imagine?! There were women there, including me, making likely the most difficult and painful decision they might ever have to make in their lives, and this show was on. Worst of all, it was a "who's the father?" episode. I wish I had been strong enough to speak up and tell them to take this shit off their TV screens but I was already at rock bottom.
Why does it not surprise me that not only did Jeremy Kyle come from a privileged background but was also involved in some of the shadiest businesses outside used car sales before going into entertainment...

As a kid I remember finding it funny seeing all the arguments and fights. As I grew a bit older I found it more sad, questioning why people would go on. Then it just became depressing, not just the people's lives but the show itself, the idea of broadcasting things that didn't need to be broadcasted. By the time I heard the show we cancelled I hadn't seen an episode in ages, and I wasn't really that surprised.
Looking at shows like this one and many here in the States, it seems clear how both we and the UK have created a situation where acts of performative cruelty are not only tolerated, but popular and accepted, even expected behavior.
I wish some of them had called him out for running off on his wife after having an affair with a woman he worked with.
They did, they just cut it out of recordings, just like they cut out the times anyone actually got a shot in on him

People often called him out on the show but he would shout over them or they would just cut it in editing. He is a gambling addict and serial cheater himself with multiple children with multiple ex partners.

Two things i hated about this show, one: The media's use of the word "Died", refusing to call it what it really was, suicide. Two: the lie detector, it is NOT an actual lie detector, it does not work in that way and is not 100% reliable.

As a kid I loved the Jeremy Kyle show, like back then if you had a day off school watching it was the highlight of your day. Only later as an adult did I see how fucked up it was
I feel bad to be honest, I use to laugh at this show back as a teenager. But I caught on later that it was laughing at the most vulnerable and down on their luck in the UK.
In fact my Brother even saw one of his own friends go onto this show at one point, He was shocked to see that.

Looking back on the JK show, I thought that everything that happened in the episodes were normal, authentic reactions (which they were), but I didn't realise until a couple years ago that the producers would wind up the guests backstage, hence why 99% of the time they'd all come running on stage rowing at each other.
When I watched this show I literally felt physically sick seeing how Jeremy Kuntle treated the people on his show. I couldn't understand how he had an audience and why people kept watching him. He's a disgusting example of a human being.

I actually went to be in the audience when I was younger, I used to laugh at the show and think people were just so stupid and/or pathetic in these situations. It was only when I thought on it and saw the actual, real life consequences of the show and the producers that I grew disgusted with them and myself for being so into it way back when.
I saw a dude in the corridor just outside of the stage break down after a DNA test told him his daughter wasn't his, it was such a crushing sight, and I really felt for him. It made it worse that the audience had to walk past the guests on the show as we left.
I'm glad this show is gone. Absolutely evil.

Had a family member hounded for months and months to go on the show, offered to just pay her outright. Wisely she refused.
People who were found 'guilty' on the show had their lives destroyed. Even if you were ultimately the 'victim', you often didn't come out smelling like roses either.

I used to be hooked on this show as a teenager...which should have been a red flag. I remembered how shocked I was, when I heard that Jeremy deleted all his episodes. But now that I think about it, I'm glad that people aren't gonna become vulnerable and get exploited on live TV.

Something VERY telling to me is why this show came to be. A talk show named Trisha was being moved to Channel 5 which is owned by the BBC, not Virgin which ITV indeed is. Why did it switch networks? Because ITV refused to let Trisha Godard’s own production crew work on it because they didn’t have to pay thier workers as much as they would by outsourcing. Trisha was very similar to Jeremy Kyle with even the same kinds of topics and even some shared guests; lie detectors and all. Biggest difference was that Trisha also had a body language expert as well just to make things even more unreliable. Trisha ended in 2010 which was blamed on a lot of people cancelling thier TV licenses as a result of the 2008 Financial Crisis although many say a guest killed themselves after appearing so Channel 5 got cold feet.
Back on topic, Virgin liked the ratings Trisha brought in because it was controversial and they just so happened to have a radio host who did something very similar and got a lotta listeners. Fun fact; Jeremy Kyle was also going to originally have a body language expert but then Channel 5 threatened to sue because that would have been too on the nose.

Never liked him, but i did see one thing that he did that i liked. And that was after a man told how his girlfriend abused him, the audience laughed, and Jeremy called them out saying "if the roles were reversed, you would be horrified" or something like that.
And he did that only so he could get the reaction on camera.

I don't know if anyone else said so yet, but thank you for blurring out the people in the episodes. It probably took a lot of effort, but they definitely do not need to be harmed by the show any more than they already were.
I remember this coming up on day time television and I sat down to watch because I had nothing else to do at the time. I remember just being grabbed by the show, each segment, each accusation, each argument, each fight was just polarizing to watch. I didn't even realize during the day time segments for this show on television they were back to back and I had been watching for hours. I tuned in quite a lot to The Jeremy Kyle Show, I was hooked.
My friend went on this show. She accused her boyfriend of cheating on her. Even though I knew he was a scumbag and probably did, I made sure to explain polygraphs were complete bullshit. But regardless he failed the polygraph and admitted he cheated, which in turn made me look the fool a bit. She found another fella and went on to live a happy life at least.
I used to watch this back when I was a teenager. I always felt like something was off but still watched on.
How many of these lie detector test results were falsified/botched for the sake of ratings at the cost of people's lives.

The worst thing to me is how many copycats this show inspired worldwide. I'm not from the UK and have never heard of this guy, but I could instantly recognize the set and the show format. I've seen it many times on my local TV, on several different channels, by a variety of names. But always the same premise, the same manipulation, the same disrespect towards people.

We had such a horrendous show for more than 10 years. My mother and my grandfather used to love it, I absolutely hated it and it led to long arguments, as I would always leave the house to walk outside, even missing dinner, and they would refused to badge and shut down that abomination.
On the positive side, it led me to hate TV and shows that much, I don't even have a TV.
And yeah, there is some irony in watching YT, but at least here I can watch educational shows, gaming media and etc. I am having some control over what I am being fed.

I live in the us, so thankfully we didn't have to deal with him that long. I grew up poor, so we used an antenna and one channel had episodes of the Jeremy Kyle show. I guess they bought some episodes or it was just finally brought over here, I don't know how tv works. Thankfully it only lasted maybe a year from what I remember. To me, it was like Jerry Springer vs Maury, but with a guy who came off as arrogant, weird, had an accent, and yelled a lot.
Steve Dimond story shocked me. I have been dealing with substance abuse issues. I was a pathological liar. I grew up with dyslexia, am a CSA survivor. This isn't to pity me. I just want to point out you don't get a pathological liar without a reason.

The framing of this video is perfect. You talk about “you” as if it’s the royal “you”, referring to the audiences of this show so it doesn’t feel like you’re attacking each one of us personally, but at the same time , it is us. It’s each and every one of the people that found entertainment in the ruining of someone’s life, regardless of motivation. I personally have never seen a single episode of this show and I thought hard about the way I consume media and reality shows and even true crime. Bravo.
What the fuck, as a teenager I watched this on RUclips and tought it was fantastic.
However, I was 100% convinced it was an over the top staged parody show filled with actors and I never took it seriously. Knowing I laughed at real people's problems feels pretty damn horrible
Thank you for blurring the faces of the guests on the show. They don't deserve any more abuse or indignity. The Jeremy Kyle Show is in the same vein as the Jerry Springer show, yes, but also (in my opinion) as Dr. Phil. People who want (and need) genuine help, acknowledge this fact, and think going on one of these shows might be their ticket to getting it. Mental health and addiction care is too expensive and inaccessible for nearly everyone not only in the US but most places. We all deserve better.
Jerry Springer though, was/is a nice man, who never disrespected anyone.

I used to watch this show when I was younger because I enjoyed the lie detector results and whatnot. The drama of it, all of it. Then when I found out about Steve Dymond and his suicide and I was shocked. Then the cancellation. The documentary. That's when I learned of the evil of this show. I can't believe I watched it as much as I did and didn't regard that these were real people, real lives, real stories. Part of me thought it was fake, staged. Thank you for shining light on the history of this show and how dark it really was.
My sister briefly worked on the show she was someone who told the live audience were to sit so not a huge role. She said Jeremy is such a rude person irl and looks down at people he thinks are below him. Glad the show ended just sad that it's because of a suicide.
The fact that this show ran for 14 years proves the fact that for all the performative kindness people put on, they'll gladly watch you suffer for a quick laugh, then shrug their shoulders and move on when the pain becomes to much too bear.

100% right. These same people, when given a chance, could vote for candidates that could lead to policies to help some of the people on shows like this and they just won't do it. Someone that I know who is also an entertainer faked a relationship to go on the show, the idea was supposed to be that he & his fake girlfriend were having issues and they would do a lie detector to see if he cheated (Keep in mind they weren't together nor have they ever slept together + he's also a comedian), they said the lie detector said he cheated on her and tried to go in on him not realising he had set them up. They later found out he was a comedian/entertainer and refused to release the episode lol From that moment I questioned the show even further than I ever had previously. Leading up to getting on the show, they will try to act friendly as if they're their to support you and want the best for everyone involved and make all these offers but once you get there they strategically cause tension.

@@abdullahshaibu2193 Yeah they later found out that he was a RUclips comedian and confronted him about it, they only found out because he didn't want to take off his disguise and then they refused to air the show but they had said that he was cheating on the girl despite them not even being in a relationship or having any sexual relations.

I know a couple (a few actually) who went on Jeremy Kyle so have a first-hand account of the shows shenanigans. They thought they were going there for help with alcohol addiction but things didn't quite pan out that way. The morning of filming they weren't allowed to go anywhere and obviously needed a drink, the show said no problem we'll get you a drink - one swig of supposed vodka was enough to check the label and find out it was 0% alcohol. They kicked up a fuss and went out themselves to get some vodka without any cash, not an obstacle for any addict. Anyway they do indeed split you up to dig out conflicts ripe enough for good TV, long story short the couple thought it was one of them shows where things are calm and you discuss your alcohol abuse then onto a detox! They brought the missus out first and Jeremy went straight to relationship issues so by the time he came out he was the villain, she ended up in hysterics crying but my pal stayed calm, composed and didn't bite (Jeremy tried though along with manipulating his missus, a woman clearly in a poor mental state). They did go to rehab but their alcohol problem only got a brief mention at the end as they were sent off stage "Graham and the aftercare team will work backstage" blah, blah, blah. There was more dodgy stuff but this was long ago and my memories on part-time. The icing on the cake for me though is being in prison with him some months later on morning associtation (pad doors were left open) and he's downstairs in the methadone queue 💀 when someone shouts "Bob, you're on Jeremy Kyle" lmao everyone piled into the nearest pad for a TV. I've heard the claims before that guest with addictions didn't get treatment beforehand to psyche them up.

They definitely tried getting my mate and his missus onstage withdrawing to make them more vulnerable and behave erratically for the TV - I believe what I was told 100% , no question about it.
I lived next to someone who went on here (an 18 year old girl at the time). Anyone who didn't live in the UK at the time this was around can't possibly understand the deep effect this had on society, at least your "average" people (middle/lower working). People would quote it, adjust their relationships based on it, threaten to "go on jezza". Use things Jeremy said during arguments, etc etc. It was such a big thing. And it was utterly disgusting, so glad everyone recognizes him for what he is these days. LOVE that his recent comeback attempt mostly failed.
I mean, if the uneducated were stupid enough to believe what was on there, I don't have much sympathy for them.

i saw a clip of this show once. no idea what any of this show was about but this one clip was of a man telling the host about his ex, and how his ex used to abuse him. he told a story of how she locked him in their apartment once and he had to escape out the window, just jump out. and the audience was laughing at him. the host then ripped the audience a new one, pointing out that if the roles were reversed and this was a woman they'd be sharing sympathy with her and rightfully calling out her ex. and then it cut to another woman, who i assume was the mentioned ex in a backstage area, also laughing. i remember being very angry and very sad for this young man, having his struggles and trauma mocked because he was a guy
i remember watching the episode you are talking about and saw in the comment section of this video that a person said that the audience was giving cues as in signals when to cheer, boo and laugh the person that said this watched the jermey kyle show in person so could be case of this or they laughed on their own discretion which i doubt because jermey would of shouted at them if they did the guy that said about audince being told when to clap,cheer and boo was seated in the audience section at manchester n the jk studio and he said everything that goes on live on the show is different to what goes on when the cameras are turned off because he said jk was very rude to people that worked on the show and would shout and swear at them and throw ears peice at them

Pretty much the modern day version of a "freak show" or public execution. We all get to gawp on and marvel at how better we are than the spectacle in front of us, and how they can bathe in the broth of our righteous indignation 🙄
Which is why I am very glad Jordan Peele gave us the movie Nope last year. It's commentary on this exact kind of stuff and how we inflict trauma upon ourselves for the spectacle of it all is more important now than it ever has been.

something about this show always made me uncomfortable, especially as i got older, but i'd never really dug into Jeremy's background before. honestly can't say i'm surprised, vile human.
I remember this show! did not know it was cancelled. honestly, a show like this could work, but with security and therapy on stage and to actually provide additional help. Also do a where are they now segment and stay in touch with the guests to follow up on their situation. not the crap dr. Phil does.
Jerry Springer was made for comedy, Jeremy Kyle was made for humiliation!
I used to love this show, I was a teenager when this was everywhere on tv and all students was watching this. We made jokes and laughed at them. As I’ve gotten older (now 30) I learnt that mental illness and anxiety is no joke, shouldn’t be exploited no matter if it funny, Jeremy proved this by pushing someone to that edge that they no longer could cope with it.
I still have memories of a female going on that show she happened to be a year younger than me and went to my school and lived around the corner from my mum house. She appeared on the show at 20 years old and I was curious what has happened to her since the show and I was shocked to hear she constantly in and out of prison and hospitals due to her mental state. Quite sad knowing she wasn’t like that when we all was teens. Oh she came on that show as the villain in Jeremy eyes.
They aired it here in the states, but was cancelled years ago. Good thing too. Sorry to hear that you had to deal with it longer.

@monica Difference is Steve Wilkos has had self-admitted murderers, peadoughs and other criminals on his show. Some have even been arrested.
Unfortunately I used to watch this show to make myself feel better about my life. I see now how that was truly terrible. I now see these people as victims of society. Vulnerable and taken advantage off. I’m truly sorry to everyone who has ever stepped foot on that stage.

There is a similar TV show in Russia called Мужское / Женское, which is even more extreme than the Jeremy Kyle show. The show hosts do mock the guests and the footage often shows lots of violent acts and real graphic footage. The most insane part was with a woman that was tortured and kept hostage by her husband and the people made fun of her, but promised their "help"
After the stas reeflay drama that's not surprising. That type of content seems to be very popular/lucrative there. However that genre seems normal in post communist countries

One of my mums friends was a driver who would transport guests from their hotel room to the show/studio. Immediately after drop off he was to call in and report what the people were talking about and any details they hadn't told the show before.

Same problem I have with Maury show (there are many problems but Im just talking about one), the audience is always ganging up on the man, booing after every sentence, and then if it turns out that the woman was lying and the man is innocent, the audience suddenly does a 180 acting like they were on the man's side the whole time. Like jesus talk about brainlessly infuriating
I remember being young that the last time I watched Maury they had a baby on stage who was unusually big.. it woke me up even at that age that the baby wasn't given clothes just so you can seethe child and it hurt my heart.. after that I did homeschooling in the other room to avoid it.
Not to mention those lie detectors are BS, so the odds are good no one lied.

@@dorkydragon5055 You should not mock anyone with food phobia in public ever. Forcing them to eat something that makes them retch is not helping. I have seen few shows mocking people for this. I guarantee school years were hell for these people as I know it first hand. I would give away my sense of taste to be normal and able to eat anything.

I remember this coming on every single day when I was coming home from school. It was some of the worst types of media that I've ever really experienced. The fact that they had someone like Jeremy Kyle belittle and berate people who he thought were underneath him on public television with the facade of 'helping them' still angers me to this day. We got rid of our last T.V. in 2003. One of the decisions we never regretted.

It is depressing but it's sort of in our nature as humans to be curious about things that are somewhat disturbing and it's what these shows prey on. I'm sure everyone has overheard an argument or domestic issue in the street or from neighbours and listened in out of curiosity, it the same sort of thing really but packaged as a TV show.
I think reality TV in general is super depressing and leads to a lot of vulnerable people being exploited for the sake of drama.
I do think shows like this will be seen as a black mark on our society, taking advantage of vulnerable people for jeering entertainment, people looking for help with the only financially viable option to be get barreted on national TV, to hopefully be given advice after the clown show. With an arrogant host who has more skeletons in the closet tham any of the guests they insult.
Society has always done this, from the Roman Colosseum, to the Salem Witch Trials. It's not a black mark on our society, it's just a reminder that if you think you live in what is laughably called 'civilisation', you don't. Humans at their core, have not changed.

I grew up in Tennant Creek... A small but very rough town in the N.T. of Australia that has the highest crime rate per capita in the country. LOTS of fights!
If you went a weekend without a fight, you pretty much knew one was coming the next.
And Jeremy Kyle - I've seen his type! The kind of person who eggs on the drama but never seems to be the one who loses his teeth
In the US, we lump Jeremy Kyle in with Jerry, Maury and Steve Wilkos category of "Trash TV." If I remember correctly, Jeremy Kyle had a US version of his show, and it got cancelled pretty quick because the genre was oversaturated and it was boring to the US audience in comparison to Jerry and Maury. It's also interesting that if you watch clips from the US version of his show, Jeremy is actually far less abrasive towards the guests than he was in the UK version (or maybe that's just my imagination - my recollection of the US version was from almost 15 years ago). Idk he seemed tame on the US version in comparison to his native UK version, where he rips people a new a**hole. Either way, the guy is awful, but I also think if Jeremy Kyle wasn't hosting it, it would still exist. People are addicted to viewing whatever will help make them feel better about themselves.
When i was a teen my mum used to watch this all the time, and even then i used to wonder why she found such glee in looking down on people who were in the same social situation as we were. The "YOU'RE SCUM" stuff was a meme quite early into the show but most people unironically loved it. I had a friend who got taken on it once when we were like 20; luckily, he never suffered that much as a result to my knowledge, but the social stigma followed for ages. People trying to find it on the TVs at work, crackin jokes and stuff. He ended up just walking off the show while his own mum shouted at him. Mad. He told me it was great because he got paid to go out drinking the night before by their team, but how true that is I can't say.
In the US, many similar shows like Jerry Springier tend to cast fans of the show as guests and everyone is basically in on it. The guests present exaggerated versions of themselves, its almost like pro wrestling.

They rounded up the dregs of society, many with several mental and behavioural issues and baited them into verbal slanging matches and physical fights, all for entertainment. Jeremy Kyle is one of those people who look so smaug that you would just love to punch them in the face repeatedly.
